Ah I am so happy they are uploading all these old episodes, I hope they do the whole original series 7 or 8 seasons whatever it was. Brings back such nostalgic feelings! I wish it were more frequently than just once a week though, hehe.
For "Why not?" I would also add that this was the kind of poker the vast majority of the general public wanted/wants to see: Yes, there are a lot of better players out there now than the guys at this table, but this was a time when the "tv poker pro" were, in general, a lot more lively, friendly and were larger than life characters. One of the biggest differences is that this was still at a time when there was major sponsorship money to be made so it really alleviated the pressure of having to win - thats why most of todays players are more analytical, pay more attention, banter less so they can focus on the game: unlike these olden days if you are playing poker today and you aren't winning then you don't have a way to pay your rent or buy yourself some food
Everyone talks about how bad Phil H is in cash games, but you can’t deny the man has taken some sick beats, especially in this session. Quads over 8s full, middle set over top 2, that was crazy
Quads that beat his full house he really only had Q high in his hand, that was not a bad beat, it was a lousy game, same going into Freddie's full house leading out of position. PH is a disaster in a cash game.
Anyone notice the blunder made by production? Go to the 15:50 mark. Hellmuth is about to call Barry's $35,000 bet. When he does the pot bloats from $80,600 to $150,600. It added two $35,000 bets or calls. It's also possible that when making the video someone said the total pot was $115,000 but it sounded like $150,000 and that's what happened maybe. Hard telling. Really coincidental the two amounts not only sound alike but are also the same amount away as the bet total. They probably just accidentally added an extra 35,000 forgetting they had already accounted Barry's bet minutes prior.
Did anyone else notice the hand that Phil went all in with 2 pair against Barry’s full house? The hand starts at 18:48 Phil with the shorter stack went all in and then kept some of his chips.
Trying to recall.. has Phil ever actually been ahead/won when he jammed his chips arrogantly like that? LOL I remember in that Tournament of Champions (I think it was called?) where he lost to Annie Duke he did the same thing and lost the hand. XD
Deeb’s hand at 17:20 is a huge lesson in poker IMO. You have to be willing to play the odds and lose all your money. He’s holding a monster and gets raised by Phil with nothing. You cannot lay that boat down under any circumstances. The only hand that beats him is Aces full, and the odds are Phil doesn’t have it.
Yeah that's true, AJ keeps on oversizing the pots won while the real profit taking is usually much smaller. They just try a little too hard to make every pot look like a high stake poker.
Compared to Sammy Farha most of these players play too tight, the range of Tran, Chan and Greenstein, even Doyle's are much too obvious. I would actually love to see Sammy versus Doug and Ivey at the same table.
Well actually have you watched all the previous episodes? He made some great plays and flopped nuts several times but got outdrawn each and every time even at 1 to 5 odds against him? Insane misfortune several times in a row. He would have won most of these hands had he jammed on the flop or turn. But he was trying to maximize his profits with odds in his favour. Helmuth lost 150k literally in 6 hands and all of them played like a complete imbecile.
Phil still eats huge steaks. I've seen the guy. He can eat a 32 ounce ribeye by the time you can visit the restroom. Phil will not be lowering his steaks anytime soon.

The Best
Barry Greenstein wins these huge pots with all the emotion of a man who's 5th in line at the DMV.
Barry is too logical. He's just earning a living doing things just as casually as you would at your job.
He also loses huge pots with the same stolid face. The one earlier this season versus Farha, and the one in later years versus Dwan … Barry’s a rock 🗿
Barry Greenstein = the real life Joey Knish of Rounders.

He gave it to charity
Solid session for Phil, classic.
helmuth calling a cash game a side game is the most tournament player thing ever😂
