I just picked up one of these in all blue, with a 5 1/2" barrel and a spare .45 ACP cylinder. I did this on purpose, because the club I shoot at most of the time shoots Wild Bunch with two pistols, not just a 1911, and it's nice to minimize the calibers of ammo I have to carry to the loading table. I was pleasantly surprised by the finish -- in fact it was so rich and uniform I initially thought it might be Cerakote. I bought it with my eyes open, knowing there's a lot of work that might have to be done to get it match-ready. All of my other SAA clones are Ubertis, so this was an experiment. After the first range trip, these are the things I'm going to have to do to it -- trigger job, of course. It's creepy and gritty. I like my triggers to break at 3-3 1/2 pounds, and cleanly. Those plastic grips have to go. the first thing I'm going to try is replacing the grip frames with those from an 1851 Navy. My hands aren't especially big, but I do have wide palms, so the grips aren't long enough to suit my hands. Lastly, it shoots WAY low, with all the different loads I took with me to the range. So, I have to standardize on a load, then start filing the front sight to bring the point of impact up. I've never had to do this on a Uberti, but if the sights are going to be off from the factory, this is definitely the direction you want them to be off, at least vertically. Left and right it seems to be fine. We'll see how it goes...
I've got one with a 7.5 inch barrel, and just got the .45 acp cylinder. It isn't dropping in though, as I hoped it would. Any ideas on what needs to be done?
Gotta like that nickel frame! I have had several people tell me that Pietta’s Great Western pistol is the best bang for the buck. That especially for people considering Cowboy Action Shooting.
Everyone should have at least one "gunfighter" length barrel. Mine is Cimarron's Holy Smoker and a Cattleman fast draw. Are you going to regulate the front sight? Give it a bump? Or maybe send it back?
Thanks Kindly Justin! That’s a plum fine as frogs hair Shootin iron and I bought one myself back in the spring. I have a 51/2” barrel in 38/357/9mm, with the 9 extra cylinder. I Love it! And when the carbonated nasty appeared, I knew he was no match for that 45 iron! That freakin, feeble, flakey, frustrated, flatulent flat head tried to ambush you! Little did he know you were packin a 45! Now that once high fructose friendless flat head is flowin into the sand Thanks to you Dustin! They just never learn! So I’ll see you on down the trail perhaps you’ll be ridin with Santee and protecting all the folks around from the feared fructose flat headed nasty gang! Kind Thanks, Many Blessings and Make the bubbles blow up on that gang! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania
Most of the time they shoot to the left and low I have turned the barrels on my pietta’s I have two engraved ones with the 4 3/4 inch barrels I use them when I cowboy action shoot I also have filled the top of the front sight
I've got a lead, of sorts, on what may be either an original Colt's or an original Great Western. A family member recently stumbled up on whatever it is but knows next to nothing about SAs or, to be honest, handguns in general so I have to wait at least a week before I can see it in person and examine it up close. Assuming it is a real, functional Colt's or Great Western, the price is going be absolutely stupid cheap. Oddly, the way my kin described the revolver, it could be either something really nice that I would treasure for the rest of my life or, worst casing it, something to shoot AT with one of my lever guns. By the way, the revolver in question was described in such a way that it reminds me of the revolver tested in this video only with a longer barrel.
I have a Uberti 1873 cattlemen, that if your video is any indication of accuracy....my cattlemen is a lot more accurate! But some prefer the Pietta & that's their choice, my cattlemen is blued & color case hardened & I won't even let my deputy Sheriff nephew shoot it! It's too nice for a ham fisted gen- z deputy to put his greasy paws on! However your nickle plated revolver, sure does look nice in the desert sun! & by the way... where are you located?? It looks like it's close to my home in Southeast N.M!
Off topic/ On topic. A lot of people replace smokeless lube on store bought projectiles, with diy lube when firering old school revolvers. Why? If the Lube is placed in the same location, why do it?

I prefer the 5,5" or 6.5" barrels on my revolvers except for EDC use but this looks like another sweet shooter..

A top-notch clone, for sure. Enjoy it.
That appears to be a real nice revolver. Thanks for sharing.
Very nice, thanks for sharing!
I really like the proportions of the 4-3/4" barrel, but then again, I like all of them! Just how many members of the High Fructose gang are there?
I have heard lots of good things about the pietta great Westerns. Keep up the great work dustin.
Love to have that revolver....thanks for keeping us safe from the fructose bandits.
I've got the same gun had it over two years works great nice trigger no issues other than the cost of ammo
Dustin, Nice looking Sixgun. You and your have a beautiful and blessed weekend. LORD GOD Bless and stay vigilant.
Word has it that the High Fructose Gang has teamed up with the watermelons and Shasta soda.
Thanks for another great and informative video. That single action looks like a keeper. Thanks again

That's a nice pistol

Great new video, beautiful revolver thanks for sharing with us.
I want the paladin model so bad
Personally, that's a sexy revolver, but I would definitely change the grips for something else, but other than that I'm sold😊
Thank you very much for not doing the infamous Cowboy load.…👍🏽😊❤️🇺🇸

Really nice revolver. Took care of that bandit.
Seems like this would look awesome with some nice grips. Need a before and after.
Reminds me of the Taurus "Deputy".
That's one Good lookin' Hogleg, Hoss. 👍
Great review
Nice revolver thanks for the video

Guess I found a new RUclips channel
That will do nicely.
I don’t know when this was filmed, but wearing all black in Utah the last two months would have been HOT! 🥵 🤠
It was. LOL!
Looks a lot like my Pistolero by Pietta.
thank you sir beaitiful pistol
Yea a new video 😅
I like the 4 3/4 barrel. Prefer a transfer bar hammer though.
Shame on you for blasphemy! 😀
Are these pistols able to be shipped right to your house like the cap and ball revolver?
No, it has to be shipped to a dealer with an FFL.
Does the pietta have the retractable firing pin like the Uberti's ?
Heck no! Thank goodness.
Of all the SAA n clones you've had in your collection, how many actually hit to point of aim? And, can anything be done for ones that don't...?
It it hits low, you can file down the front blade sight.
Very nice pistol but does need wood grips.
I l9ve my Davidson Exclusive convertible Great Western II Pietta Gunfighters.
Another great video
Pretty

I want a compact SAA revolver.
