The bromance between these two is the most wholesome thing ever. The reunion at the end of the movie was so satisfying. Like I was surprised by how satisfying it was. It should’ve been him and Poe in episode 8. I shipped him with Rei.
Glad I wasn't the only person who thought this in the cinema, the film was never as good as it was in this scene. If it had just been these two on the trail for Skywalker for the entire film; I could have done without Rey entirely.
I like that Poe knows Finn is scared and is constantly trying to keep him focused on anything other then his nerves by asking about him and giving him his name and just treating him like a friend instead of someone he just met who he probably isn't sure he can actually trust
I feel like she could've been included in the overall story way better than how she was in TLJ, but what if the 3 of them went on a mission together to find lando?
The trumpets totally add to the effect too, I love how they almost emphasize it. Like they blast out twice, then get the fuck out of the way, then blast out again haha.
This whole movie has incredible sound design. Try watching this movie just focusing on the sound. It's amazing. They put a ton of thought into every second of this movie's audio, from sound of the ships, the sounds that represent the Force (e.g. Kylo and Rey's mental battle), the sound of the lightsabers, and even really simple stuff like Kylo Ren stepping around in the scene where he first encounters Rey and you can hear each of his footsteps really clearly. They did not miss any details. I really like this movie on a lot of levels, but for sound editors and foley people, this is film-school level awesome.
This my one of my absolute favorite scenes in The Force Awakens. It sets these two up as great characters, their dialogue is great, and it was really exciting to watch. Plus, Poe giving Finn his name really highlighted their friendship.
2:42 "hey what's your name?" "FN - 2187" "FN ... what?" "Its the only name they gave me" "I'm calling you McLovin is it ok?" "McLovin? Yeah I like it!"
Looking back, especially after watching the Rise of Skywalker. I don’t understand why the other films weren’t more like this scene. These two have a great chemistry, and we have an ex-Stormtrooper as one of the main characters. *wasted potential*
It's insane how wasted Finn was, especially since he would've had a better journey from a nobody to a hero than Rey imo due to his history as a stormtrooper, the lowliest and most jobber troop in the the entire Star Wars universe
*Poe realizing there's a chance to do something and gains more hope* "We're gonna do this." *Smirk* *Still gives up but not as much seeing Poe's Confidence* "Yeah?" SOOO MUCH CHARACTER WITHOUT SAYING ANYTHING!! RYAN JOHNSON YOU UTTER TWAT YOU CANT KEEP THINGS CONSISTENT!
Trey Ahzze not true, finn obviously likes Rey, plus jj said that in a huge universe like Star Wars there probably are gay people, he never said Finn and Poe are, plus jj isn’t even directing the next Star Wars film
Agreed! He should've been Force sensitive. His character should've been written with understanding and respect. He's set up as the main character alongside Rey in this movie, and then they sidelined him for no reason. He should've gone up against Kylo Ren and defeated him. I'm just so upset, they didn't deserve Finn or John Boyega :(
Honestly, I like that he wasn't a Jedi. It shows that an average Joe can still change the world- er, galaxy. You don't have to be a Jedi or an ace pilot, you can just be a normal guy.
I had a big problem with that seeing the film in theater, while nothing up until that point had bothered me. So very un-Disney. And out-of-character since Finn has never killed before and leaves the First Order because he won't have any of that shit. Stormtroopers in Star Wars have always been faceless and basically fodder, for the first time in the saga there's a character whose whole point is to humanize them, he's introduced to us and next thing we know, they don't matter again.
Great scene; great rythm; great lines; great visuals and... great music. This was perfect in theater. I really started to chill when Finn shot down those turrets.
Poe: I'm calling you Finn Finn: Finn?...Yeah I like that! Finn! Poe: I'm Poe...Poe Dameron! Finn: Good to meet you Poe! Poe: Good to meet you Finn....I'm sorry I killed your storm trooper friend earlier! Finn: Yeah...Wait what?!!
Poor fella! That guy gets killed on the first day of every new job he takes!!! Pretty sure he got killed at least 6 times in his career as a Stormtrooper^_^
Darth Venar Don't remind me, lol! I don't get how sound designs for souped-up cars (something completely tangible) can trump something otherworldly like cross-guard lightsabers or tie fighters. =/
The first time I saw this I literally gasped at 2:06 when it smashes to the trumpets blasting out and the TIE Fighter screaming in toward the screen. That is just SO Star Wars, such a jolt of excitement.
Looking back at this scene makes me realize how much Finn and Poe got shafted, especially Finn. They had so many chances to give him some chemistry with the other characters but they squandered it.
Its a Star Destroyer disabling a rebel ship followed by a bunch a Stormtroopers wrecking a bunch of rebels. They do that by shooting (and hitting) them. They can hit things without plot armor.
Gods the shot set up at 3:04 is SO good. From the guy at the computer, to Hux who marches towards us, flows to the guy at the console, which lets us see Kylo come in, and then the camera follows Kylo back for a closeup with Hux. Hux then back off a bit, leaving Kylo framed. Amazing work.
Poe - "Why are you helping me?" Finn - "Because it's the right thing to do." This was amazing...How a bad guy became a Hero later on...damn...people should learn from this
this scene was perfect the acting the chemistry all of it! really reminded of the detention center shoot out when han chewie and Luke were rescuing leia which is my favorite scene in a new hope! the prequels never had scenes like that! this movie did which is why I fucking loved it
+Dagger14 s You're absolutely right, in the OT there's this earthy sense of humor about their situation that makes the experience so much more immersive and relatable. The only scene that comes somewhat close is Obi-Wan/Anakin rescuing the Chancellor, but still it doesn't hold a candle.
My favorite moments of TFA were scenes where the characters bounced off each other well. It's a shame there was never a moment with the whole trio of new main characters.
Not well done ones. I can have a good time watching Revenge of The Sith but it doesn't have the same quality the OT and TFA had. The Clone Wars did a good job mending that though.
I thought TLJ was a good movie. It had a good plot, and the theme of the film made a lot of sense, but Jesus Christ, the direction wasn’t there. Poor Ryan Johnson, has to go through all that hate.
Howard Stern They had a very inconsistent relationship; sometimes they were an annoyed father and bratty son, other times they were bros on a mission. And the bro moments never felt real.
George Lucas and his obsession with CGI/Green screen = the inability to properly develop characters for 3 movies straight. I don't hate the prequels, but I won't deny they were completely devoid of character development.
The Clone Wars done a much better job at developing the relationship between Obi and Anakin. But then again Clone Wars done a lot of things better than prequels ever did.
@@twistedkarma9574 They don't have to, I just think their chemistry is incredible, and they'd make the most compelling couple. Finn is a permanent fish out of water who is moved by a fierce protective spirit coupled with an awkward, timid side. He can't lie properly, he's nervous around things he don't understand (man, many things), but he fights like hell and faces his fears for his loved ones. Poe is the audacious, cool, always in control guy who is in fact rarely in control but bust through everything with a shit ton of confidence. He is passionate, expansive, and give it all, living his life at the fullest at every moment. I'd love to see them as an item with Poe's first instincts to rush and Finn either trying to slow him down or to cover him, completely confused about everything and wondering whether to praise Poe or to knock him in the jaw for making him worry like that.
I like how they built character by using the TIE fighter as a metaphor for working together: Finn wasn't just sitting in the backseat, he was manning the guns, while Po was flying, like Luke and Han in the original film. Well played
Supposedly this is explained in the movie canon and legends canon that a lot of fighter ships have intentionally similar designs and controls, similar to virtually every car having a wheel, accelerator, break, and if it's not an automatic transmission then also a clutch.
You can get in ANY car on this planet and have a pretty good idea of where to stick the key, how to use the turn signals, how to turn on the radio, how to operate the air, how to read your speed, how to roll the window down. Think of it like that
imagine being this stupid and to think this is good complaint. When you can ride one car, you can ride basically ride them all. Shut up and stop talking.
god these two are adorable together. they don't have that much screen time together but they're among the most enjoyable things about these movie. love their bromance!
How the hell did they manage to make these characters' friendship believable and likable in just a few minutes of screen time? Why couldn't Lucas do that with three fricking movies?
Because the prequels were made so that the events that happened happens because they needed to in order to advance the plot, not because there was a discernable reason for it to happen in the movie. If we had Lucas do this movie then we would see Finn killing civilians in the village like nobody's business, probably with flashy thermite grenade launchers and eviscerating children with those lightning swords, then have an instant (and off screen) change of heart and decides to bust Poe out, acting cool and emotionless the entire time.
tbird14 No one can deny that George Lucas became a hack producer after the 80s. In fact, you can see how he started to become lazy or at least bad already in Return of the Jedi, which is the weakest of the original trilogy, a movie that cares more about creating toys for children than completing the story of the previous movies.

Tie fighters are pretty bad ass. They just don't have any shielding. That's their one major flaw.

I can't tell if you're joking, or if that's actually canon. I thought it was because shields cost too much for an empire's worth of fighters.

The bromance between these two is the most wholesome thing ever. The reunion at the end of the movie was so satisfying. Like I was surprised by how satisfying it was. It should’ve been him and Poe in episode 8. I shipped him with Rei.
I was totally ready for another 80 minutes of the adventures of Po and Finn, was really disappointed when it abruptly ended.
Maybe they should make a Lego game based on that.
You don't say. 😏
Wait for Episode 8, some Finn and Poe action

Glad I wasn't the only person who thought this in the cinema, the film was never as good as it was in this scene. If it had just been these two on the trail for Skywalker for the entire film; I could have done without Rey entirely.

Yep It's orgasmic.
As epic as the sound of the seismic charges in Attack of the Clones

And out-of-character since Finn has never killed before and leaves the First Order because he won't have any of that shit. Dagger 13 I try to tell this to the prequel apologist and THEY JUST DONT LISTEN
Dagger14 s many scenes like that in the prequels you probably haven’t watched those movies in years

Matt Bahr Yeah, The Last Jedi wasn't really as great as The Force Awakens.
I think that JJ should have had directed TLJ.
It might not be great and perhaps it would be extremely similar yo ESB like TFA is to ANH but it would have a good SW feel.
Matt Bahr the last Jedi had a good plot just badly directed but still enjoyable
I thought TLJ was a good movie. It had a good plot, and the theme of the film made a lot of sense, but Jesus Christ, the direction wasn’t there. Poor Ryan Johnson, has to go through all that hate.
These two develop a stronger friendship in 30 seconds than Anakin and Obi-Wan did in two movies.
isnt that because anakin didnt get along well with obi wan?
Howard Stern They had a very inconsistent relationship; sometimes they were an annoyed father and bratty son, other times they were bros on a mission. And the bro moments never felt real.
George Lucas and his obsession with CGI/Green screen = the inability to properly develop characters for 3 movies straight. I don't hate the prequels, but I won't deny they were completely devoid of character development.
The Clone Wars done a much better job at developing the relationship between Obi and Anakin.
But then again Clone Wars done a lot of things better than prequels ever did.
ditto that
The Sequels had a lot of problems, particularly with characters, but they definitely managed to sell me on Finn and Poe with this scene.
These two should have gotten together, not Finn and Rose, hell Poe and Finn should have had more screen time in TLJ.

@@Contevent why do they have to be in a relationship? Why can't they just be good friends?

Poe: I’ve always wanted to fly one of these things
Knows the exact controls to shoot blasts and missiles.
I guess you never heard of simulators.
Supposedly this is explained in the movie canon and legends canon that a lot of fighter ships have intentionally similar designs and controls, similar to virtually every car having a wheel, accelerator, break, and if it's not an automatic transmission then also a clutch.
Kinda similar to cars vehicles, poe is an ace pilot so he's been in quite a lot of ships. Also he was playing around with a lot of thr buttons inside
You can get in ANY car on this planet and have a pretty good idea of where to stick the key, how to use the turn signals, how to turn on the radio, how to operate the air, how to read your speed, how to roll the window down. Think of it like that

Jamila Smith They might be more than bros...
This whole scene was so well made!
How the hell did they manage to make these characters' friendship believable and likable in just a few minutes of screen time? Why couldn't Lucas do that with three fricking movies?
Because he's a hack fraud who cares only about special effects and money, not characters.
Because Lucas got lazy and he was a bad producer from what i heard
so your saying that he is a bad producer even though he made the best trilogy ever (the original trilogy)
tbird14
No one can deny that George Lucas became a hack producer after the 80s. In fact, you can see how he started to become lazy or at least bad already in Return of the Jedi, which is the weakest of the original trilogy, a movie that cares more about creating toys for children than completing the story of the previous movies.
