    As someone who is continuously fascinated by F1 tech this was so enlightening

    I have the Hakko FX-888D soldering station, too. I love this kit so much. I use it for all my electronics needs. I've owned it for at least 7 years.

    What is interesting is Gordon Murray has been talkings about the Xtrac Instantaneous Gear Shift IGS which shifts and preselects virtually instantly. Honda published a paper detailing the technology of 2 generations of instant gear shift boxes. There was virtually no torque interruption between shifts. So this tech is coming soon to a road car. Withcraft. Man you should work for a leading F1 team or these gearbox manufacturers.

      Yeah it’s pretty awesome. I really thought the IGS technology would be in the latest generation boxes but I’m sure cost caps and weight came into play. I’d love to try to design one of those gearboxes.

    Wow that's some labour of love, what printer are you using?

      Thanks! I’m using a heavily modified Ender 3 and I think I’ve hopefully found all its weak points by now.

      @@litarea That’s a great idea. I’ve actually gotten a lot of requests about this and I’ve learned a lot about what I would and wouldn’t do again.

    Be nice if you could also share ideas on how the gearbox would be married to the tranny and innovations there around torque vectoring, smart traction control and the MGU-K.

    • @IndeterminateDesign
      @IndeterminateDesign  10 месяцев назад

      I wish I had more information to share on that. I have some pictures but I don’t have any real details or scale around the input shaft and MGUK.

  • @TheBreaded

    Very nice! Will you be uploading this to your github once you finish the design? Also I know it's a bit of a basic question, but what is that filament you're using for the input cover?

    • @IndeterminateDesign
      @IndeterminateDesign  2 года назад +3

      Thanks! I’m working on getting permission and I’m not sure at this point how it will be released but I’ll definitely keep everyone updated. The filament for the input cover is Esun PLA Silk. It looks really cool like machined aluminum.

      @@IndeterminateDesign Cool, yeah I figured if you had some insider info it may play into what/how/if you could publish your designs. Keep up the good work, and thanks for the info on the PLA!

      Yes, that’s an older Xtrac P1014. That’s what I based my first F1 gearbox model off of. They’re cool gearboxes, I believe that’s from a Marussia F1 team car.

      By the way I would like you to confirm somthing that has struck my mind recently. The keonegsegg Jesko light speed transmission is blow out in the media as crazy innovative but after seeing it here

      That they just adapted a typical automatic trans clutch pack to many of the gears. I knew that they were clutch packs as advertised but they seem straight out of a normal auto.
      And it weighs 90kg which is heavy for such a small trans what do you think?
