You are doing a superb job of teaching me about the different functions. So much so that I will now shoot in raw from now on. It's scary, but here I go.
So far this are the best explanations about this camera thanks I was looking to know everything about it. I just got one and this is really clear well explained. Thanks so much
Great video. I notice my menu red section does not have the same features in this video. Any reasons? I only three red folders & not as much to select?
Your expertise as a teacher and a photographer truly rises to the occasion in this video. THIS is the information that I need as a beginner with my 80D . Thank you!
Great vid. Very helpful. Just got my "previously owned" 80D. The only thing I can't do is make the grid appear while composing. It shows up in playback. I have used this function for the nearly 3 years that I used 70Ds and have sort of become attached to it. It works well for my students to get accross the concepts of centering the subject and filling up a frame.
Exposure Simulation (20.48) means that the exposure you have set will be reflected on image displayed on the LCD panel. If you disable it you will not receive any indication of how off your exposure is. I’ve found it to be very accurate, sto advise enabling it at all times.
Thanks guys, great knowledge information. I have just purchased an 80d, your videos make it so much easier. I would like to know more about interior photography as I am aiming at the Real Estate Industry which is a specialised area of photography and requires shooting in more than just manual mode, which is great because I am gaining more of an understanding of the workings of my camera.
I agree with KIRK Some functions you dont discuss Like Relise without Card SET THIS TO OFF otherwise you could go out on a shoot spend all day with NOCARD and not realise
I was excited to have you touch on "Distortion," as I don't know what that does. You kinda passed it right by. Can you shoot me a little tid bit on what that is? I haven't purchased the camera yet and so I am trying to learn as much as I can.
Good video all around, thanks for the effort. Your explanation of color space, however, is lacking. It has nothing to do with what a "trained" or "untrained" eye can see. In fact, it would be very difficult for any trained eye to tell the difference. Nor does it have anything to do with whether or not you use Adobe products. Adobe RGB has a wider gamut of colors and is used if you mainly are printing your photos. sRGB, though it doesn't support as many colors, is the standard used in most monitors (it was the original), and in pictures displayed on the web, and so what you see on the web will be the same as you see on your monitor. You can easily convert Adobe RGB to sRGB, but you cannot do the opposite (you can't "upconvert" to more colors). I shoot Adobe RGB so I can always print anything should I need to, but if I need to go to the web, I convert it to sRGB. Pretty simple.
Yeah quite honestly if you're going to do a video on menu settings go over everything just not the things that you selectively want to use? Not everyone has options to edit or get the software. Lot of great options you missed out on.
Thanks for the great tutorial. Just one gripe, I never post process and I am just starting out with a DSLR so it would have been good if you had given more information on settings for people like me 😃
Love your videos! Been binge watching them all day! I just switched over to the Canon 80D from the Canon T7i. I’m a videographer for a famous baseball RUclipsr Zack Hample. I shoot a lot of game action as well batting practice. In addition, I shoot Zack in front of the camera for the intros and the close and talking segments throughout the video. Should I be shooting in 24fps,30fps or 60fps. Or switching between them depending on what I’m shooting? I have been shooting in 30fps but when the ball is thrown or hit it looks more like a shooting star with a tail that’s jittery. Almost like it can’t keep up. Also having issue which exposure often going from sunlight to ballpark lights. Should I be constantly white balancing? What can I do to fix that? His RUclips channel is Zack Hample if you wanna take a look at what we shoot. Any advice would be a tremendous help! -Chris
This would have been improved by explaining the result of each menu option, rather than glossing over the ones you either don't understand or don't personally use. Highlight Tone Priority is a good example. In most applications, you should turn this on. You get better retention of highlight detail at the expense of slightly more noise in the shadows, but given the 80D's vast improvements controlling noise and better dynamic range, you will generally get better performance with this on.
*Does 80D have a continuous AF in photo mode?* I mean setting the 10sec timer and moving away for selfie, with the camera still tracking your face until the shutter goes down. 70D has that, 200D doesn't (freezes focus when the timer starts counting down). What's the 80D behaviour?
At 15:02, you found HDR Mode grayed out (not selectable). That’s because you are shooting RAW images (or RAW+JPG). Since HDR Mode merges three images into one, Canon decided on-camera HDR Mode should only happen with JPGs. (that’s too bad because RAW is often better than HDR JPEG’s). But anyway, Disable RAW to enable that HDR Mode. RAW and bracketing is better, BUT if I want to play with the 80D’s HDR feature, I prefer the temporary work-around of turning the control knob to “SCN” and then choose “HDR Backlight Control”. ...then immediately “switch back to M and RAW!”(TM). :-)
The set of numbers for neutral and faithful picture styles as well as standard vs automatic are the same. So, what is the difference between fsithful and neutral?
If you're going to do a tutorial on "What Each Function of The Canon 80D DOES" you should go to the trouble of learning even the functions you don't normally use yourself, such as Live View. It's extremely helpful to know, for instance, that the camera won't trigger off-camera flash in Live View unless Silent Shoot is disabled. And just doffing off "Custom Functions" as something only professionals use and they'll learn for themselves is just kind of slack. Even professionals don't mind saving some time with new functions if someone else has already figured them out.
Why don't you do your own review, Kirk, instead of trying to make someone feel bad about something they are not even getting paid for to do. Be grateful.
Okay, so I'm following along with your video with my camera in front of me. I don't have a lot of the menu items that you're going through. It started with the flash settings, and then menu, section 2 the only item on that list is interval timer. What gives?
i was just thinking the same, i just got the camera too. If you format your car in the yellow settings all of these new menu functions will come up e.g.. flash control and lens aberration.... you also need to be in the manual setting
can u help me please my screen is off when i switch from auto to other settings. when i press the [Q] BUTTON my screen turns on but this is very annoying
I have bought a Canon 80D camera recently and also bought 2 Interfit Pro250 Lights for my studio which came with a cable to connect to Camera. But I could not find any place in camera where I can connect these lights ? anybody can give solution to this.?
bgalavizful Make sure its on Manual Not Auto. And Put It In M Mode And everything will be normal. I had the same problem that was because it was not on Manual. Bless
Fine tutorial, but ONE major gripe: This camera is new to me, so when you change your settings to demonstrate a point, sometimes your say, "and now you do this..." and your fingers go out of view. You don't describe what "this" that you are doing IS. Very frustrating that you do not describe WHAT you are doing at the time, and we have to rewind to figure it out. Do not assume that we know what you are doing.
Hi can anyone out there help me here,i am looking to buy a zoom lens for canon 80d,its for taking pictures of guys that are fishing at my fishery, and these pictures can be some distant away

Too fast. Instructions are NOT clear. Pressing buttons at the same time you are talking without saying why or where the button is. Very confusing for beginners like me! My new camera has only 3 menu setting under the camera menu. Why does yours have so many? Sorry too fast for me.
This guy is wayyy too loose on his opinions and thin on the actual facts of what each function does. at some points in the video he seems to be guessing.

Distortion was on older lenses
Thanks this is great info, plus while looking around in the settings I discovered a few things I'd been trying to figure out for the last few days.
This series if FANTASTIC! Thank you

My camera only shows 3 options across the top where you have 6 options. How do I get the other 3 options on there?
Put your camera in M mode.
I think the hdr mode info should not come up at all when camera is set to manual, av, or tv
Is it possible to make totally reset of settings to defaults?
Under the [54] tab, select [Clear all camera settings]
Thanks.

is your camera in M mode? The camera will only show the options relevant for your current mode
Can you tell me please, Why I don't have a lot of the menu functions on my 80D that is on your video. I just recently got the cam
era ,, New ..
i was just thinking the same, i just got the camera too. If you format your car in the yellow settings all of these new menu functions will come up e.g.. flash control and lens aberration.... you also need to be in the manual setting
Put the camera in M mode
If you have the start/stop button to video or camera that makes a difference.
My canon 80D keeps saying busy either while lightly pressing the photo button to auto focus or to take the picture. Why exactly is that?
What is chromatic "abrasion"?
I really like bb focus
Great turial. Thanx
Thanks
Hey, I have the 80d and wanted to ask what the next step up of it would be ? More like a full frame camera or still an Apsc ?
What is your budget? Email at mediaunlocked101@gmail.com and lets see if we can figure it out.
What will be tracking settings for birds in flight?
I like AI Servo for tracking movement.
in the last video you said you never use ai servo.
Is there a link for cinestyle download?
"What each function does" - proceeds to skip a bunch of functions because he doesn't like them.
I shot a bunch of shots with no card, forgetting about it and when I wanted to see photos, I didnt have them! I keep that option OFF
can u help me please
my screen is off when i switch from auto to other settings.
when i press the [Q] BUTTON my screen turns on but this is very annoying
Is this camera better than the Nikon D 5600
fo sho
I have bought a Canon 80D camera recently and also bought 2 Interfit Pro250 Lights for my studio which came with a cable to connect to Camera. But I could not find any place in camera where I can connect these lights ? anybody can give solution to this.?
I dont think the 80d has that option you might want to look at a wireless system.
I want say something bro how can contact with you.
Bro do the sought of video with canon 77d...
Why does my menu only have 4 options? My camera is brand new!
bgalavizful Make sure its on Manual Not Auto. And Put It In M Mode And everything will be normal. I had the same problem that was because it was not on Manual. Bless

Agreed
For instance Adjusting Image Quality
Top Wheels does RAW
Bottom Wheel (Ie SET) does JPG
