    I just don't understand what the point of Hong Kong is if the Mainland just wants Hong Kong to be like the mainland except in commercial matters and the flow of money.

    • @jasonjean2901
      @jasonjean2901 10 месяцев назад

      China has no interest in making Hong Kong "like the mainland". They cannot, however, allow Hong Kong to have no national security legislation, which allows the people there to take money from foreign countries and destroy the city for foreign interests. The Basic Law always required Hong Kong to enact national security legislation, and the mainland waited patiently for 23 years for the Hong Kong government to fulfill their constitutional duty, but they never did. Now Hong Kong is just like any other territory in the world, as it has national security legislation.

    Housing problem is not because lack of houses, its Hong Kong have been a bubble created by the British which unreasonably attracted and cramped as much people in one place deemed possible. Therefore you cannot endlessly build houses on limited lands. The long term solution for Hong Kong housing problem is to cool down Hong Kong economy, abolish the 2 systems and return to CCP 1 system. And disperse people to the mainland. As the Hukou system would have never allowed for Hong Kong to be overcrowded. Just 30 minutes across the border to Shenzhen there are plenty of houses, why cramp yourself up in such a small city as Hong Kong? Are the streets of Hong Kong filled with gold or something, I mean come on people!

    Is HK still free to remember Tian An Men

    • @kashe747
      @kashe747 Год назад +3

      Why does Hong Kong commemorate Tiananmen which doesn't concern them because at that time Hong Kong was British colonial. However why doesn't Hong Kong commemorate all the fallen ancestors who fought against British aggression during the 0pium Wars? Which do concern them because thats the reason why Hong Kong got seperated in the first place and all the trouble now that comes with it. Some even waving the British colonial flag proudly, their ancestors in their graves would twist and turn in agony if they knew about it. Till this day U.K. havent officially apologized, the Royal Family legacy who constituted these atrocities still exist today. CCP have kept their promise to share the wealth with their people years after that crackdown. So if you can forgive the British, then you also can forgive the CCP

      Tian Ann Men had already been relived and re-enacted in HK during the 2019-2020 riots. Both Tien Ann Men and HK riots 2019-2020 were works of Western intervention using their ideology of democracy and freedom, which they themselves have failed to put into effective practice. Frankly, there have been lots of Tien Ann Men incidents recurring in the West with a lot of police brutality meted on the protestors. Why do you want to recall Tien Ann Men when you can read about these similar events happening in the West every now and then? We can learn from the west what has worked, and more so what has failed to work with their brand of freedom and democracy.

      I respect Yondon. He loves peace and harmony, and he is not a trouble maker. There were so many journalists from HK and the West who were trouble makers inciting so much hate and anger among the Hong Kong people during the riots in 2019-2022 with their news coverage. Yonder was among the few media journalists in HK with journalistic ethics calling for rational thinking , peace and harmony during those times in 2019-2020 when negative group think phenomenon was wrecking HK like a disease. Hong Kong is a part of China, that is a non-issue, and Hong Kong will gradually shed off the false British and western influence, and nurture its own identity like Shanghai, Chengdu, Qingdao, etc.

    HKSAR CE John Lee is an insightful and articulate leader. He has been largely credited for quelling the 2019 protests as HK's security tsar and restoring law & order and normalcy to the territory, enabling business to thrive. His 35-years' career in law enforcement may have helped.
    However, he needs to redouble efforts to tackle housing woes more urgently, ease the severe manpower crunch across all sectors and industries, particularly, construction and transportation as priorities through labour importation and find new engines of growth to revitalise and put the HK economy on a steady and firm path to recovery after COVID-19 by capitalising on its unique advantages vis-a-vis Mainland cities in re-establishing itself as a financial and business hub through leveraging extensive international cooperation with counterparts whilst integrating better with the Mainland's overall economic development. Housing is key as it narrows the rich-poor divide that may lead to social unrest.

    • @kelvinloh8396
      @kelvinloh8396 Год назад +1

      HK's Four Key Strategies for Economic Development:
      1. [Housing] Housing is a perennial problem spanning many years. Drastic and bold action is needed to solve the housing crisis. [Strategy] Build reasonably sized public housing flats for all HK residents who are unable to afford private property (minimum occupation period required to prevent speculation in resale market) in a 2-phase approach (first phase catering to those who need housing urgently) within 5 years, using prefabricated units and putting in place supporting infrastructure and facilities (key recommendation).
      2. [Talent & Enterprise] The global competition for talent, especially, top talent is stiff. Talent is the lifeblood of every economy. [Strategy] Attract top talent and enterprises with special work visas, residency, tax concessions and co-investment funding schemes.
      3. [Cross-Border Collaborations] The Greater Bay Area (GBA) is a hive of opportunity, talent, innovation and enterprise. HK will do well by integrating itself more closely with the Motherland's economic development.
      [Strategy] Deepen HK's business links with Guangzhou and notably, Shenzhen to position itself as a financial and business hub attracting talent, innovation, enterprise and capital.
      4. [Regional Cooperation & Internationalisation] To further internationalise HK as a financial and business hub, its unique advantages need to be maximised and Southeast Asia (SEA) and the Middle East leveraged through extensive cooperation with counterparts.
      [Strategy] Strengthen HK's network of business linkages and relationships with ASEAN and Gulf states to entrench itself as a leading international financial centre, specialising in cross-border transactions and financing. These outreach efforts should dovetail with the Motherland's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) for synergies and economic spinoffs.
      Public consultation and communications should be adhered to wherever necessary to enhance policy delivery and effectiveness in engendering trust and buy-in. This is particularly true for hot button issues like housing and talent that could potentially cause widespread discontent and social unrest. More communication is needed at strategic points in time on these fronts.
