I rock a waterproof back pack on all my rides but recently received a vintage Schwinn Impact that I built up with a front basket and foldable back wire baskets. Love it for grocery runs !

I'm using a front rack for commuting, and the bag that goes on it is a medium messenger-style bag, so it fits good on the rack. (better than a standard backback). And I always carry a tote bag in case I need more storage, so if for example I stop to the grocery store I can fill up that tote bag, put it on the rack, and fill my messenger bag that I carry on my back for the rest of the trip. I enjoy that setup quite a lot! Safe ride!

Nice. Exactly what I have planned for my 1998 Bianchi San Remo repurposed touring bike.

Living the basket bike life on my commuter and don’t think I’ll go back to anything else. Just so utilitarian.
Be well bud, big hugs to the family. 💚

Plumped for a Pelago Rasket for the commute. Honest to god it's brilliant f.kin nails build quality and a rack basket combo gives options to swing in past Lidl on the way home cause it'll take panniers with the basket.

I use a wald 137 basket + blue lug tote bag as well as a chrome mini metro or a small sling bag. I usually stuff the heavier stuff like a lock, tools, spares, or groceries in the basket bag, then lighter stuff in the messenger/sling bag (or stuff that’s too fragile).

I use the same basket and bag setup with a small backpack for commuting. The basket takes the heavier things and leaves me with a small and light backpack instead of cramming everything on my back like I used to.

yo, i think the limit for the m18 was initially 8kg (17.6lbs) but has been reduced to 5kg (11lbs) as nitto prefer large safety margins, and i think there were a few instances of them breaking while loaded and on rough terrain. if you are going to really load it up, i would recommend running a strap between the tombstone and handlebars so the rack doesn't cause the front wheel to lock up if it fails. i saw someone saved by a rack strap last week!
fwiw, i have an m1b (the same but with 4 struts) and carry fairly heavy grocery loads regularly with no problems, but the number you said in the video was so much higher than the rating i thought it was worth noting

I commute with a front rack "Surly 24 pack rack with a Wald 139 basket" and I love it .. I use a cargo rack net or bungee cord to keep everything in the basket. I love your vids too :)

The wing straps are totally worth it if you do any side trails or gravel paths. They only take a few seconds to do/undo and they are prolly the most secure of any basket bag designed around the wald racks🤷🏽‍♂️. I don’t know how much you have to carry on your winter commutes, but the mother loaf is substantially larger. You’d prolly have to get a different rack though. I do anything to avoid wearing a backpack on the bike these days.

I am basket curious...I've used rear panniers or the RD terrapin seatbag for commuting. I agree the redwood is looking great. Everything just ties together very nicely. Also agree that bikes and riders change, go with the adaptability and avoid the rigidity.

Really nice :) I run a similar set up, but am having trouble fitting my front light to the basket.. How did you do it?

Hey man, the rack is setup too high which might be causing some of the 'compromised' steering you are feeling. You want to get it as low to the tire as possible. Obviously, it will feel different with a front load but it shouldn't be that extreme.
