This is, hands down, the best video ever of a bike-packing setup. Solid advice from someone with serious real-world experience. Can’t wait for the trip video. 🤟 (And TailFin now has a pretty sweet bar-bag setup available)
I just watched your South to North Iceland trip ..!!!!! You are an AMAZING young woman , Strong Willed & DETERMINED ..!!!!! Happy you enjoyed that trip .. 👍. Now on to your follow up Video ..!!!!! 👍😊❤️🇺🇸
Watching you keep pulling gear out of each bag had me wondering if you could teach Mary Poppins a thing or two! 😂 Just when I thought you surely couldn’t have anything else you pulled out half dozen more things. I’m no bike rider but I’m super impressed by organisation, you got me good Ms Becks… 😊 Power to you lil lady 💞
Becky you are so organised, very impressive, so many items you took to keep the bike going shows how experienced you have become. Coffee is almost the first thing i consider, only the real stuff, not instant. So i need to get one of those filters, where did you get it from? I have a feeling the Iceland video is going to be awesome 😊
Congratulations on completing it, look forward to the video and seeing what you get up to next. It's all very inspiring and I imagine even more so for young women who watch your channel. 🤟🏻🙏
Hi becky! I've just had a 6 month break from using the internet which has been very refreshing. Anyway I thought I'd have a look on RUclips to see if there were any good nature documentaries or anything and this video was in my recomendations so I here I am and it's nice to see you again, glad to see you're still out and about enjoying yourself, keep it up! :)
Now that I’ve watched the whole video, Wow you really explained everything perfectly and doing such a long hard bike trip like you did I can see why you care so much stuff. You really really did a great job on this video. Thanks for sharing 👍👍👍👍
Amazed how much detail in selecting the proper equipment for a trip, pedals, seat, cleats, food, clothing, parts, etc a novice may not consider. Awesome and informative video to supplement the trip video. 🚴 (I consider the coffee a most critical item for any trip)
Nice kit break down…if you want to improve IMHO the Apidura feed bags then remove the yellow cord as it’s routed and just use it around the top! the way they have it is very poor as it pulls the bag top down and inward! you’ll have a little more space if you change that! mine are modified and much better like that ☺️👍🏻 Ohh and spare seat clamp and seat post to saddle bolts are good to carry👍🏻
It's always good, beneficial to see how others 'load-out' for different regions and geographies, and to learn what was a lifesaver and what was useless! Bill O'
Thanks for sharing. Always interesting to see what kit people pack, especially for trips where the weather can be severe. I love the look of my fully waterproof seat bag but unfortunately the tip of the bag rubbed against the seat post fitting and made a hole in the tip. Though the manufacturer repaired it but because of this and the fact I want lots of spare room for food on my next trips I'm planning to use tail fin for the rear and top tube. On my LEJOG I had to strap a supermarket bag on the front of my handlebar bag which wasn't ideal. Also want more storage for a warmer sleeping bag and puffy. I'm the lucky owner of a 1990s Saunders two man Spacepacker tent. It's 2 kg but I can store my bike in one of the side alcoves. It's an awesome tent. Interesting that you had some success with such a small solar panel. I'll reconsider. May also consider upgrading my GORE to a hooded jacket and purchasing more robust water proof trousers. On my LEJOG I packed ultralight trail running water proof trousers but they quickly wore and lost their waterproofness. I have extra wide feet and was very lucky to find some shoes that were OK being a size oversized. But they are 2.5 season shoes and I need warmer shoes. Yes, I like cleats also. I love my peddles that are cleats one side and flats the other. If all goes well I have my eye on GDMBR, trans America and Tour Aotearoa. I think the African and asian trans continentals are beyond me,, especially given the current political climate. I'd like to visit Iceland though I think bike-packing it would be beyond me. Looking forward to your vlog.
Can definitely recommend those Shimano hybrid pedals Becky, I have them on my gravel bike as I sometimes commute on it, just watch for the grub screws on the flat side working loose over time. Don't know if you could use one with the bar ends you have, but there are some OK cafe locks you can get which take the place of a bar end plug and save space. Not going to stop a determined thief obviously but does the job for a quick coffee or shop run.
You know somebody's prepared if you see them take a spare mech hanger. Seen so many people riding great distances don't even know there is such a thing and that they should bring one with them.
Yes regarding bikes tubeless is much better i use old school tubes and i cycle around 70 miles a week around Cornwall and i do get a fair few punctures which is annoying but i love cycling it really is great to get out head somewhere rural and just enjoy the ride, the route and the scenery - So good for mental health aswell as your overall health! Well done on your journey sounds like a right epic mission
I've been running tubeless on all of my bikes for years now. Only one major MTB incident requiring a plug and a weird sidewall issue requiring a new tyre. Apart from that I've been puncture free. Including my road bike.
Thanks Becky, although I'm not a biker, hearing the depth of your knowledge & experience, was insightful. Just pondering if, for 100% eye protection in dusty environments, horse Jockey goggles would be the ultimate - 30g, foam surround seals to your face, vented, scratch resistant, clear/tinted 🤔 If the Vikings cut the trees down, it sounds like Iceland needs to be re-wilded. Now there's a challenge... 😂 (...and it looks like the good people at Mossy Earth are on it - birchwoods used to cover 25-40%, currently it's 1½%)
interesting suggestion re eye protection! But i suspect the fully enclosed goggles would fog up, even with the vents -- eyes seem to sweat a lot when pushing hard on the pedals. :-) But might be good to have as spare, for when hike-a-biking into a sand-storm... :-|
Another wonderful video by the most awesome young lady bringing joy to the masses. I find my self watching your videos more than once, just to see the joy you have in your endeavors. I will wait impatiently for your trip video. May your upcoming trip be fulfilling and meet all your expectations. I think for me I would have to double the amount of coffee you took lol.
Small tip, since you don't have a full frame bag, you can put your tent poles in a nylon bag and put them in the space between your frame bag and your bottle. Alternatively if you have a full frame bag you can put them under the down tube, strapped with some voile straps. Good way to save space usually. Amazing trip & videos btw. How was the northern desert part with the 2.35 tires? Did they sink into the sand or was it still rideable? I know everyone recommends fat tires for that but I was wondering if I would be ok just with plus tires for my weight.
I did the exact same route in 2023 and can attest to the fact that the conditions can be brutal. I used an Orbea terra gravel bike with bike bags, the wind got so strong at times that I was having to push and the gusts picked the fully loaded bike up to horizontal, the sand storms really are that harsh. I suffered but loved it, would defo use a fat bike next time though.
That Katadyn BeFree is a hollow fiber filter. Carbon filters are different and not compatible with this bottle system. You have to buy a different pump to use a carbon filter. Hydroblue Versaflow has a light carbon filter.
I enjoyed watching this video and I had to subscribe, you are an amazing young woman with a big personality and a zest for adventure. One question I have is; what motivated you to cross Iceland solo and what motivates you to keep travelling and make more videos? Are your parents following your journeys and supporting you? I hope? Nothing is easy and simple and it takes a lot of tenacity to pursue what you plan to do. Cheers for Oregon USA, I look forward to see some of our travels be well.
Nice detail, looks like an epic ride, I have been thinking that the saddle bag bikepacking rigs looked pretty wobbly, Bikes used to come with bosses for bolt on racks, that arrangement from tailfin sounds like it good replacement for that.
Many well sorted-out gravel bikes do come with a plethora of threaded mounting points all over the bike (frame tubes, fork, stays...) -- definitely convenient, a versatile way to add all kinds of racks. But yeah, there's a few manufacturers like Tailfin, Old Man Mountain etc. that have come up with good alternatives.
Looking forward to your Iceland trip video. I've contemplated an Iceland bike tour of some sort - road, gravel, or . . . I have done short tours in US & Canada, longer ones in Taiwan and Mexico (Baja & Chihuahua). One way of anchoring a tent in hard ground/rock conditions is to attach para-cord to the tent corners & loops, tie the cord to a stick, rock or middle of a tent peg, and then pile more rocks on the tent peg and cord. More wind = more rocks. Logs too if available (so probably not Iceland) I've weathered storms in tents on solid rocks with gusts above 50 mph.
Thanks for the great load out. Very useful for planning trips. Can I ask the Brand of your solar panel? It looks a lot less bulky than the ones I have been looking at
very interesting. What I am surprised at is that you could take gas onto the flight into Iceland or did you buy the gas when you reached Iceland. I am looking forward to watching your Iceland Trek. Good luck on your next trip.
i'm obviously not Becky, but typically, yeah, you have to buy your gas canister(s) when you get to your destination. Iceland is very well prepared to cater to adventure travelers, lots of explorers going there!
🥰👍You're kitted up better than an SAS operator, Baby Girl. Sadly, I haven't been on a mountain bike in a while (🥹), but you put some good ideas in my head for updating my truck BoB. Looking forward to your Iceland video. Stay safe, and all my best to you and your folks.

Aw thank you so much! The new bar bag looks epic :)
Thanks for sharing Becky!
What a pro, very well thoght through setup. Having done this expedition you can go anywhere. Thanks for sharing.
I just watched your South to North Iceland trip ..!!!!! You are an AMAZING young woman , Strong Willed & DETERMINED ..!!!!! Happy you enjoyed that trip .. 👍. Now on to your follow up Video ..!!!!! 👍😊❤️🇺🇸
Great vid 🤸🥳 I agree re the one sided clipless pedals, as having the option to clip out can help alleviate knee issues on long trips. 😊
Watching you keep pulling gear out of each bag had me wondering if you could teach Mary Poppins a thing or two! 😂 Just when I thought you surely couldn’t have anything else you pulled out half dozen more things. Thanks so much! :)
Very informative vlog. Thank you.
Looking forward to seeing your film on your adventure in Iceland.
Have a good trip soon.
Take care and stay safe.😊
Thank you Yvonne!
Good point on the folded pole length. I have always had to pack the pole/s seperately which has it's disadvantages.
Hi Becks. Just those brief snippets have made me really look forward to seeing this trip. xx
A great no nonsense kit video Becky, I hadn't thought of the just in case spares needed for your bike. I'm looking forward to your trip videos.
Excellent. Just like to add, that super glue can also be used to close small cuts fast.
Amazed how much detail in selecting the proper equipment for a trip, pedals, seat, cleats, food, clothing, parts, etc a novice may not consider. Awesome and informative video to supplement the trip video. 🚴

Nice bike Becky. Sounded like a fantastic trip. Can't wait to watch your video.
Lake do great very wide shoes. I also wear vivos and had to stop riding clipless until I found the lakes.
Great content.

Great video! The Tailfin kit looks fantastic. Will check it out.
Class run down of your complete kit plus the most honest opinion of a mini pump 🤣
Gotta be done 😆
It does sound like it was an epic trip. It is interesting to see the sort of kit that is needed for this kind of trip.
Thank you!! ☺️

The bicycle version of the International Space Station. And I’m not exaggerating!
Very informative video. Keen to see the trip and how do you plan the route and food and camping setup.
Love to watch this epic video
where did you get your coffee filter from? 😍
Really good load out Becky. Did you leave the bike box/duffel at a hotel?
Sooo informative thank you

Hi @Becky one question on your bike box. How did you store it for your return journey please? Can’t wait for your trip video!
I stored it at a campsite in Reykjavik:)
@@GirlOutdoors nice 👌🏻 Did you transport it there by bike packed into your panniers?
What did you do with the giant duffel during the trip? Did you store it on the bike or somewhere else?
Good needs Cycle Society across the globe .
Amazing. 😀
Very interesting. 👍
Full Tailfin setup! Very good but quite expensive.
Worth it when doing trips in harsh conditions for sure :)
Very nice video. Thanks :) But the Katadyn BeFree is NOT a carbon filter, it's a hollow fibre membrane filter. No carbon.
Becky, the Yellow Bag that you use to carry your paniers on flight. Do you carry that bag with you on the bike
Hi Beck, I wonder where are your aerobars from…thank you in advanced and blessings🌟😊
