  • I’ve been wanting a front basket on my commuter for convenience and additional carrying options - I finally just went for it, so here’s what I’m using for now!
I also explain how I moved my light down to my fork to stay out of the way of the basket, and to save handlebar space.

Love it. Very timely of course because youtube knows I’ve been researching this topic lately.

Great info! Thanks for posting. I see the "tba" note and I'm very interested to find out more about the "handlebar mount point" product. I've wanted something just like that for a long time now!

Very nicely done video. Great clear demonstrations of everything you were talking about.
I am currently and for the foreseeable future a one bike only man. A hybrid which does everything for me. Commuter, tourer, shopper and cargo bike all in one.
I had considered getting a front basket but I have ample large pannier bags and now two different sized rear baskets if I need them with or without the panniers. But then I got some cheap €5, 5 litre handlebar bags which I hang one front and one back of the flat handlebars. I bought extra one's for myself and as gifts for other people because they were so cheap.
I permanently keep similar to a glove box in a car, low value but still essential stuff that I will always want with me on my bike but can't be bothered to keep removing and won't matter much if it is stolen....
Water, drinks, chocolate, snacks, hand sanitiser, masks, disposable gloves, hat and anything else for convenience.
I have come back to find them unzipped and someone has obviously been looking through them more than once but so far nothing actually taken after a year.
Also my phone fits horizontally into a clear pouch on the bag facing me riding. Although I have got a specific handlebar phone holder if I want to use it - a Christmas present.
My handlebars are so fully loaded I have added a 45cm handlebar extension l fitted.
Two extension brackets and a 45cm length of pipe I bought in the hardware store sprayed black to match the bike.
There's mirrors, fittings for a choice of three different lights from small to "can blind oncoming traffic on full power", bell, rubber bulb horn (I love the sound it makes) and a few other bits and pieces I might add and subtract as needed.
I would always prefer my lights up higher on the handlebars. Much better in particularly completely dark unlit rural roads which I spend a lot of time on to pick out dangerous obstacles better in my opinion.
Tools and everything else valuable always come with me along with all of my other bags whenever I park the bike even for a short time.
And I live in a much safer than most area. But if I don't I know eventually my luck will run out 🙁.
I'm sure I have made this comment unnecessarily long but I love seeing videos like yours and how other people live with and optimise their bikes for their own lifestyle.
Keep up the good work. 👍

This sounds like a magic school bus of a bike! Thanks for sharing all of those details!! I've really been enjoying adding the accessories as I add them on to this bike - if I want to ride lighter or this one is in the shop, I have a backup, but it's really nice to have a commuter set up with all the features that come in so handy for daily riding!

I had an issue putting my headlight on my fork as you suggest. I ride in total darkness so the high beam casts a huge shadow off the front tire and i can’t see very well. However I also have 47 mm tires so the block light well. You may not have that issue. Good luck and thanks for the mounting tip.
