Lol it got me for a second. Part of my job involves tasting my new crop or batch of concentrate, i often like watching these guys while im testing the new batchs or cured batchs because they basically do what i do but with the whiskies, i was 7 dabs and 2 joints in when i put on the video xD
I started watching it after just getting out of the shower at about 4:30AM after waking up earlier at 1AM because my sleep schedule is off, and I'm currently only wearing a towel. Intro was also awkward for me, but funny as heck.
I made Ice Irish Coffee for the July 4th family get together, made the coffee the day before and put it in the fridge. Added the Irish Whiskey after the coffee was chilled. A good time was had by all, or at least those who drank the coffee....
So much of the comment section got this and Daniel didn't. WTF Daniel? You're a coffee snob, been a barista, AND you picked the comment so you had time to think about it.
I did the coffee brewed with whiskey in lieu of water about 25 years ago.. . it was amazing and was my.morning cup of coffee for many years while in the US Army. I have also soaked the coffee grounds in whiskey prior to brewing..
A buddy of mine brought a bottle of the Crown Royal Mesquite for several of us to try and these notes are spot on. We just watched this after having tried it and were dying laughing at the perfect accuracy of "It's like a watered down milkshake... and you drink out of an ashtray."
My dad and I took a bottle of Crown Royal Texas Mesquite with us on our annual road trip on motorcycles; this time we went to New Orleans. Needless to say, the Texas Mesquite made it through the whole trip nearly untouched. I equated it to somebody crushing up a bunch of BBQ Pringles and turning them into cheap whiskey.
So funny to watch your review of the Crown Texas Mesquite. My brother and I both tried some last year. He likened it to drinking from a dirty ashtray. I felt it was more like drinking an arson scene while it is still full of fire truck water.
More comments on cold brew. Yes, alcohol will extract the flavors faster, so 24-hour steeping will be too long. Generally, fresh coffee beans continue to outgas, so you don't want to put it in a sealed glass container (like a mason jar). Refrigerating everything during the brew should show down the brew process somewhat, but there's still the issue of filtering the grounds out at the end. Putting them in cheesecloth and putting that in the whiskey kind of necessitates an open top container to allow better contact between the grounds and the whiskey (don't throw in a "cheesecloth coffee ball"). If you pour the coffee on the bottom of the container and pour the whiskey over that, you need some kind of filtering, which will cause the whiskey to be exposed to room temp air longer. It might be an idea to do the cold brewing in a large French press, and use the press part at the last second for filtering out the grounds. This could also make it easier to sample the coffee to decide when to stop the brew.
Just letting you guys know, cold brewing coffee with a whiskey works...... pretty well. Maybe try pairing whiskey and coffee with similar tasting notes.
There was a case where General Robert E. Lee asked where a certain lieutenant was. After he was told that the young officer was dead, General Lee is reported to have said, "Commendable."
Daniel thanks for finding that and bastardizing my great grandfather the Rough Rider. I am sure he loved it in heaven plus with Not A Luxury Whiskey a fantastic choice.
Fellas I was at Copper whiskey bar and I had a bunnahabhain a glenfiddich 8 and an laggavulin. I love scotch it is official especially from a Glencairn
No, the ethanol will strip the flavor oils from the coffee without adding temperature. It's called an infusion and they are maybe better than flavored whiskeys because you control the ingredients' quality and time in solution. Crack some coffee beans and toss them into a bottle. Now throw some cayenne pepper slices and/or some black peppercorns or a few cocoa nibs and maybe a sliver of sugar cane....whatever you like.
Nice vid again guys. I know you've reviewed the following whiskeys a lot, but I couldn't find a comparison. I'm talking about Ardbeg 10 vs Lagavullin 16 (and maybe vs Laphroaig 10). If I missed it, could you reply with the link of this comparison? I'm curious to know your thoughts on these whiskeys side by side. Thanks in advance.
I want to thank you guys for helping me understand whisky I found my favorite in scotch, islay scotch in particular. My favorite is classic Highland Park 12 Viking Honour. The peatiness and Smokey notes are astounding. Thank you guys for great videos and information.
Do a cold brew with whiskey, but cut the time way down. If you leave the coffee in for 12-24 hours, it will end up way too strong. This is from experience with liquor and coffee.
Hello have you reviewed Skrewball peanut butter whiskey 35%? Also, the Whistlepig Rye? I once tried Indian whiskey called Desert Queen tasted like curry! The Crown Royal Peach is good for a flavoured whiskey.
Is Shaoxing wine the word you were searching for when tasting the White Tiger whiskey? It is very common in a lot of Chinese cooking and has a taste reminiscent of dry sherry. Though the cooking version of Shaoxing wine, called Liao Jiu, is usually used in cooking which is cheaper and slightly salty.
I went to my local shopping center and started looking at the labels trying to remember what I have learn or made aware of thanks to your videos , I noticed that the term Scotch whisk(e)y was on some of the Canadian bottles. I would love to tour your vault. Does plastic hinder or help or neither to whisk(e)y such as Clan MagGregor Scotch Whisk(e)y ?
French press, room temp, coarse grind to slow down the diffusion process. Can tase test anytime you want until you think it’s ready or until you run out of whiskey 😆
I was having an off day before, but that intro really perked me up. Thanks for the laugh, fellas 😂 With that description, I really wanna get my hands on that White Tiger. Too bad it's not available in my area (maybe one day though). Also, that coffee idea sounds amazing! I need to try that... for science, of course.
Hey guys I’m new to whiskey... kinda I’ve had basically the locals wide spread ones at bars. I like flavors and taste. I much rather drink neat, maybe a few drops of water to open it up. I just started buying bottles to test out new stuff, steer from the beers to whiskey. I just got the entire redbreast collection of Irish whiskey 12 15 21. I’ve tried couple others, what else do you suggest for beginners ? I’m open to all kinds. However if it has any type of added flavor yuck... looking at you JD no 7.
So speaking of older donations...Any chance of the Amrut Fully Peated EVER making it on the show? It was donated when you shot the #WaxRex episode...and we are almost back to a point where we should be Waxing Rex again.
Dang! I'm sure it's in the vault, and we just missed it as we've worked our way through the various piles of whiskey in the various closets. Can you email me a reminder to go find it?
*Wisconsin whiskey- exists Rex- “y’know I’m starting to get a... cheese note in this” *Antarctic whiskey Rex- “I’m actually beginning to find, and this is TOTALLY out in left field, but an emperor penguin note buried in here somewhere” *Russian whiskey Rex- “Hold on... {noses whiskey} is it just me or does this almost have a.... Rasputin-y kind of vibe to it?”
So is the Crown Royal "Texas" Mesquite trying to glob on to the growing popularity of the Texas whisky brand? Hmmm.... probably not. I've never had a Crown Royal that I really liked but most are under $20 so I can't complain too much. You've got me VERY curious about the White Tiger Lao Style Whisky... I can dig a little funkiness.... especially when I am in the MOOD (you know what I mean).
So a day ago, no kidding, I dumped the entire bottle of this “whisky” down the drain all whilst laughing aloud in a victorious chant! The pleasure I found in this act was oh so wonderful
Pimp my portrait. (Baiju or Shaojiu are Chinese. Soju is Korean. Shochu is Japanese. I live in Kyushu Japan, home of shochu. I drink shochu nearly every day. It ain't got no fish in it.)
In today's episode: Seven really is a lucky number, reviewing "viewers" is already done in the... online streaming world o_O. Rough riders are MBs from a different era. I need a pocket watch. Teddy knows getting shot is bad. #TitanPlaceHolderGraphic. #ToMuchAsh. #BurpsHappen. Bring on the coffee whiskey... question is, what whiskey to use... high proof, low proof? Tune in tomorrow, same whiskey time, same whiskey channel.
The flavor of a caramel changes depending on how dark you make it. Light color is more sweet but darker color gives a savory kind of flavor and slight bitterness.
So I'm smoking a brisket with Mesquite and Cherry wood, while drinking an Elijah Craig. I think my smoke and bourbon is coming across better than the smokey Mesquite Crown
I'd send them my bottle of White Castle, but it's already open so they can't accept it. Plus it's technically too low proof to be a called a whisky in the states
Awesome video
Just bought the White Tiger laou at a local event. Its uniqueness is wild... Definitely will wake you up... Good stuff
I love how rex and Daniel always give there fan base love
I'm uncomfortably high right now and that intro really freaked me out.
Brian 88 chill Brian we got cha buddy 👍🏻
Lol it got me for a second. Part of my job involves tasting my new crop or batch of concentrate, i often like watching these guys while im testing the new batchs or cured batchs because they basically do what i do but with the whiskies, i was 7 dabs and 2 joints in when i put on the video xD

New favorite into.
Coffee can be cold brewed to prevent evaperation of the whiskey. Go guys go.
I made Ice Irish Coffee for the July 4th family get together, made the coffee the day before and put it in the fridge. Added the Irish Whiskey after the coffee was chilled. A good time was had by all, or at least those who drank the coffee....
I was just going to say this, 24hr cold brew with whiskey would be interesting
So much of the comment section got this and Daniel didn't. WTF Daniel? You're a coffee snob, been a barista, AND you picked the comment so you had time to think about it.
That good stuff 👑 royal
by far the best intro yet

Cold brew!
Yes cold brew!!
So funny to watch your review of the Crown Texas Mesquite. My brother and I both tried some last year. He likened it to drinking from a dirty ashtray. I felt it was more like drinking an arson scene while it is still full of fire truck water.
Use a french press you will keep the temperature down and loose less alcohol and no paper filter to absorb the whiskey
Use a cold brew method for brewing coffee with whiskey

Definitely going to go get white tiger now. This is going to be fun. Also, I nominate Jameson Caskmates stout edition for the whiskey coffee.
Seems like a good call on the stout edition im gonna try that.
Heck yeah on that call!
It's what they should have used as a base for their "Cold Brew" instead of the standard Jameson.
Best intro.
That is best on ice. The crown royal
Possibly the most intriguing review of a Whiskey to date. The last part anyway! Lmao

Rex had to know the ballbusting would commence since he is sporting a manbun.
Crown Mesquite is my favorite and don't care what anyone says
Gotta try and find that White Tiger being Laotian myself
Do the coffee using cold press (very high pressures)

That’s how I was with the Laphroaig 10
Do a cold brew with whiskey, but cut the time way down. If you leave the coffee in for 12-24 hours, it will end up way too strong. This is from experience with liquor and coffee.
Can you guys do a vid on how some of the old timers pioneering the craft would sometimes die testing their spirits? Would be interesting!

I’ve never dumped a full bottle in my life before the mesquite ...
How does the White Tiger remind you of the Vinn Whiskey from Whiskey Vault Ep 146: Vinn Rice Whiskey Review?

Crown royal should really try a raging in a charred maple barrel, that would be more Canadian, and probably taste a hell of alot better
Sounds like it is oddly "drinkable" (something that one is compelled to keep drinking). Best Regards to all the magnificent bastards.
Higher than I thought
I'm not sure the world is ready for Rex wired and loaded at the same time. We dont know what that could do to his mooch powers.
If you are making coffee from whiskey, shouldn't the filter be tube socks??????
Whiskey coffee! boiling water in a Pyrex bowl, whisk(e)y in a smaller bowl, set in boiled water until hot. Run over Chemex-ed coffee grounds. Enjoy
You sgould do the coffee thing but cold brew it so you dont lose as much flavor in the heating process
Can you guys review balvenie 14 Caribbean cask please. I’m a newbie and it’s the only bottle I own and would love to taste test it along with you guys
Cold brew the coffee in whiskey. It would avoid evaporation and cold brewing should avoid over-bittering the whiskey
Cold brew takes hours. Still need to find a way to keep the evaporation down.
@@curtishoffmann6956 big mason jar in the fridge and filter into another container

Do you have an educational video on the differences between Brandy, Cognac, Scotch, etc?

The crown Royal, I agree really bad, lucky my neighbors took most of it off my hands
Rex: "enter name" you magnificent! (Daniel sh*ts himself). Both together: "BASTARD!" Every time, Daniel sh*ts himself
Awww gee whiz, Rex and Daniel, I do declare you be giving me the vapors!!!
Crown Royal Mesquet.....about a pour at a time was all I could stand! I drank it, because I bought it! Gave away pours every chance I got!!! LOL
It's June 2020 and I still haven't found a bottle of Crown Mesquite in stock. Rage haha
Warm the whiskey to 105 degrees and put it in a French press!
Sure 😊
let's just admit it, Crown Royal is the Nickelback of whiskey
All Crown Royal whisky is meant to be served with ice and Coke or Ginger ale. Otherwise it's nothing but toilet bowl cleaner. Trust me. I'm Canadian.
@Nathan Huey i agree that CR Mesquite is horrible. Tastes like liquid smoke meets lighter fluid.
Daniel's face when he said, "You look goooood." 😂😂😂
Cold brewed, coffee whiskey, then carbonated?
Always fun finding the really unique whiskeys.
- Patrick
I really didn't think the mesquite was too bad. The worst whiskey I've ever had is Dickel Tabasco.
*Wisconsin whiskey- exists
Rex- “y’know I’m starting to get a... cheese note in this”
*Antarctic whiskey
Rex- “I’m actually beginning to find, and this is TOTALLY out in left field, but an emperor penguin note buried in here somewhere”
*Russian whiskey
Rex- “Hold on... {noses whiskey} is it just me or does this almost have a.... Rasputin-y kind of vibe to it?”
As a Canadian, Crown Royal is good for mixing with ginger ale or coca cola or any cocktail calling for whisky....that is all
Thank you sir, as a Canadian irishmen i agree, none of my candian family enjoy it neat either.
Anyone else think that Rex is using his hands even more than usual in this video?
So is the Crown Royal "Texas" Mesquite trying to glob on to the growing popularity of the Texas whisky brand? Hmmm.... probably not. So we need an epic awful whisky battle... Crown mesquite vs The Mist... sounds like a job for the rotgut review!
Military Select whiskey dear friend. The true bottom shelf champion that will defend its title against all comers.
soju, shochu, sochu is Korean
Wow, is 7 good? I can never count that high.
I want whiskey brewed coffee. That sounds amazing.
I have a question. Is anybody doing a sorghum based whiskey?
Can i request you do a taste of R&R Reserve? (Because its terrible and i drink two much of it)
this is as good as it gets. take it or leave it. but on the upside i can cook like mad woman. and i hate shopping!
So a day ago, no kidding, I dumped the entire bottle of this “whisky” down the drain all whilst laughing aloud in a victorious chant! The pleasure I found in this act was oh so wonderful
Has anyone mentioned cold brew yet???
derp
A friend had a bottle of Frisk Hynder (Dutch whisky), that's the worst whisky I ever had: nose & palate of stale blue cheese.
Wild Turkey Longbranch got mesquite right. Crown Royal, not so much.
Pimp my portrait.
(Baiju or Shaojiu are Chinese. Soju is Korean. Shochu is Japanese. I live in Kyushu Japan, home of shochu. I drink shochu nearly every day. It ain't got no fish in it.)
Take the Crown, mix it with Dr Pepper. Might taste better. lol
Or chase it with a good dark stout.
On a scale from 1-10 I rate Rex’s man bun a -40.
Sean Dolan Looks like the tied top of a garbage bag

I've always considered myself more like a 6 but, now, thanks to you Daniel and Sir Mooch, I have to confidence to be a whole new man.
Cold brew the coffee.

Why does Rex look like a samurai? Isn't it about time to shave his head again? ;)
I was up a 4am, just finished work and feel knackered. A low 7, I'll accept it with good grace.
How YOUUUUUU DOIN?
Yes, cold brew.
Try Philippine Whiskey
I'd send them my bottle of White Castle, but it's already open so they can't accept it. Plus it's technically too low proof to be a called a whisky in the states
Hope my drain enjoyed this one because I sure as shit didn't.
How is a "low 7" closing in on an 8?
Cream soda with a shot of vodka served from an ashtray. LOL
You could always do cold-brew instead of hot brew coffee. That way, you're not boiling away the alcohol.
The fact I'm sitting watching this wearing my crowded barrel shirt... I'll take being an 8 😂 😂
I have officially peaked.
