    On July 6, 2019 I visited Annandale Distillery with Roy (Aqvavitae) on my 53rd birthday. I was wearing a Whisky Tribe t-shirt and the owner of the distillery, David Thomson, noticed it and came up to me and introduced himself. Roy and I spent the next half hour talking to him about the distillery and the Whisky Tuber community. It is great to see how they are resurrecting the distillery and returning peated whisky to the Lowlands.

    I visited the Annandale distillery last year and tried their New Make and Smokey which was an interesting experience! Sadly i bought a blend (the only 70cl bottle they were able to sell back then) that was so bad!
    They did New Make to try help pay for the cost through maturity since the distillery had been mothballed and refurbed so had the full setup process to go through! Great tour hosts too!

    Received a bottle of Ironclad for my B-day.(from my son). He meant well. This product is from Newport News Va, just a few miles down the road from my humble shack. This "Bourbon" is not aged long enough and tastes like a cross between lighter fluid and rubbing alcohol. This distillery is brand new and maybe they will develop a good product if they let the Bourbon age properly. Also, it's $38 bucks for a PINT! Narrators note: I have never tasted lighter fluid or rubbing alcohol, but this is what I imagine it would taste like.

    It today episode, we hear the creation of the whiskey vaults theme song. (G4, E4, D4, C4, D4, C4, A3, G3, E4, D4, C4, G4, A4) I am sure you can tweak that on your guitar Daniel, I can only figure it out on a keyboard unfortunately. Also... we need to think about whiskey made by smoking the grains using smoked chilies now too...

    Hey, maybe a stupid question from a newbie, where's the difference between moonshine, new make and something like vodka? Because it all seems like distilled unaged grain spirit at first sight, albeit the use is quite different.

    • @priv8ejimmy
      @priv8ejimmy 5 лет назад +1

      Broadly speaking, new make and moonshine are the same, while vodka is filtered several times and usually proofed down before bottling. Moonshine and vodka will sometimes be flavored as well.

    Speaking of Smokey, I've been looking for a scotch that has a real "salt of the sea" taste, but doesn't rely completely on being overly peaty to accomplish that. Laphroaig is more smoke and seaweed, but what I'm looking for is more "salty", if there exists such a whiskey.

      They do make their own whiskey, however only in small batches and it sells out fast. Also they are unable to ship the whiskey due to U.S. laws. If you're ever in Austin, Texas you can visit them at Crowded Barrel Whiskey Co. and try their whiskeys in their tasting room, The Fang and Feather. More information can be found on their website - crowdedbarrelwhiskey.com/fang-and-feather/
