In the 1970's UK Melody Maker paper I read an article saying Koss used 012 - 056 Gibson Sonamatic Medium gauge strings with a heavy plain G (024 ?) and B strings.
You may think that you're not a Paul Kosoff fan, but if you've listened to ANY Iron Maiden song from 1978-1990 you've heard him since Dave Murray bought one of Paul's 1957 Strats and played it on EVERY Maiden album since he bought it. Paul will live on forever!!
I too, loved Paul Kossoff's playing. I still have his solo LP. I also love Joe's playing and so glad to hear he was a fan. Yes the guy off to the side should be working at a tire store or something. He showed zero interest in the guitar or joe. Maybe he's a security guy.
Just played this guitar today at Anderton's and compared it with a 59 reissue - Amazing.... The second I picked it up i was like... (:o It was like a soft leather shoe... Easily the best of the bunch.
He was trying to remain modest and was expecting him to ask him if he would like to play it. Clearly joe was excited at the idea of playing the guitar. That guy to his left shouldn't be there if he doesnt know his role in providing the audience with what they want, that's where the wrong is.
Absolutely first class, Mr. B. Thank YOU ! I've had my cherry 71 Les Paul Custom since 1985, with a same year Marshall. I can't play lie that... but I wouldn't trade it for anything.
+Cstock6409 copy paul kossoff! buy free records! and copy every part of his guitar playing! joe bonamassa learned from records! not from a book! to due that!
He really seems to be a great person! humble all the times that I see through videos.. Great Joe Bonamassa... and Paul Kossoff would think kind of the same too.. RIP Paul Kossoff.
That's terrible. Handing him a instrument that isn't in tune may not even be intonated well .. listen I bought many high end guitars.... And some cheap ones have had that it thing. And some very expensive models. Where plain garbage.. it's all in your hands anyway
You can see why Joe is the famous, successful rock star and that guy to the right, crouching, is, well, that guy to the right, crouching! The right attitude baby, gets you a long way in life! He does not have it, Joe, does!
How do you know ? - maybe the guy crouching is doing exactly what he loves ;) Guitar sounds feckin amazing in Joe's hands and he has very strong leg haha - they should give him a strap or something.
Unfortunateyl....this will be out of the price range of any working class, regular schmo musician! People who don't really play will buy them...stuff them in glass cases as an "investment"... Shame....
does this guy on the right crouching work for gibson custom shop? he looks so bored, dont seem to care about the guitar nor joe, looking at him you just want to pass on, and go to the next music shop
I listened ... and thought "so - it's like the original guitar with the broken neck etc" and here's this Bonamassa guy doing a plug for Gibson ... but just before I clicked away you did the opening riff to ... "Mr Big" ... and I remembered recording reel-to-reel bootlegs off the John Peel, Sunday Show back in the 1960's of Free, Savoy Brown, Zeppelin etc. and Mr Big was a number that Free played that day. So, if there are people reading this that don't know the name "Paul Kossoff" here's a link to "Mr Big" (Simon Kirke on drum and Andy Fraser on bass I think, as well as Rogers and Kossoff) ruclips.net/video/_FhCilozomo/видео.html
boys and girls you know damn well that Gibson puts there heart and soul into every instrument,my little nephew just ordered a es339 the neck screwed up,i think due to the glue, anyways they sent him a 4k dollar guitar to replace his 2900 dollar guitar,i swear its true, now that's taking care of your customers, now for this guy to talk about a genius guitar player such as the great PAUL KOSSOFF that's just great, very few men could bend the strings with so much soul,so much inspiration,so much light in a dark world, terrible loss,RIP PAUL
Probably the annoying guy in the corner is a plumber as he is constantly checking something behind the curtain - and that should be a heater or something. :)) But surely he has nothing to do with this guitar presentation. That's why I like videos with no other faces in them except for the musician who is actually playing.
zipper scratches??? try to google"Gibson Custom Shop Paul Kossoff 1959 Les Paul Prototype" and you may wonder why you make youtube comments for no reason. And what "real" guitar player have you ever seen worry about taking off his jacket to play a guitar anyway?
All these guys with the chops better than joe, when they can write songs like him and inject intensity, feel, and passion as he does, maybe we'll hear about them until then zip it.
Nice Les Paul, Joe can make ANY guitar sound good. That's what he do. Paul also gave Dave Murray of Iron Maiden his '57 Strat with Dimarzio's. It's now his signature guitar.
Guy to Joes left, "here you go.". Joe Bonamassa says to himself, "ok...i will just play the shit out your guitar thats not tuned and still sound like a badass."
nice to see joe b.paying tribute to his major influences! couldn't agree with him more paul and paul were a force to b reckoned with! just check the isle of wight show! what a festival! i just wish that jimi, paul k. and rory would have jam together! saw young joe b. for the first time in little st.marys, ohio! i said to my girl,"who the fuck is this kid"? he opens with Just Got Paid from THE TOP and fucking ripped it up! a year later he's international!
One key principle of Paul's playing Joe has not understood (since he is playing/copying so many licks from him): LESS IS MORE and rather slow than fast. The sound is maybe unfair to be judged across a RUclips recording. On the other hand I have heard far better around here. So what makes a sound good? Hard to put into words. It is of course the combination of the attack, guit and amp. So when does this work? Of course sound is always a matter of taste.
Kossoff imho is one of the best who ever picked up an axe....and FREE just kicks ass . . .
Well done to Joe for paying respect to Paul Kossoff.
In the 1970's UK Melody Maker paper I read an article saying Koss used 012 - 056 Gibson Sonamatic Medium gauge strings with a heavy plain G (024 ?) and B strings.
Yep, bigger strings equal bigger tone... I've used .10-.52's on my Les Pauls with a wound .24 G
Kossoff brilliant guitarist, love him.

Yes people - check out "Goin' Down Slow" on the album "Tons of Sobs", for Kossoff, Paul Rogers' vocals and Free in general. Awesome!
Cool! What a top man and a brilliant guitarist.

Well said Joe.

Well said Joe so true,I was lucky enough to have seen Paul and Free play live.
Me too....well, Ive seen them on video....
Real beautiful!
Good stuff...about time Koss got the respect he deserves. Wouldn't mind that guitar.
He really seems to be a great person! humble all the times that I see through videos.. Great Joe Bonamassa... and Paul Kossoff would think kind of the same too.. RIP Paul Kossoff.

Maybe the guy is the ex-secret service agent he hired as his bodyguard?
@@volpiguitar Or...maybe he's just a miserable sod!
The guy crouching is a guitar tech
Unfortunateyl....this will be out of the price range of any working class, regular schmo musician!

Shame....
does this guy on the right crouching work for gibson custom shop?
he looks so bored, dont seem to care about the guitar nor joe, looking at him you just want to pass on, and go to the next music shop
Thank you Joe for introducing me another great guitarist!!!

the guy who disliked this video was the same dude that disrespected joe bonamassa, i wouldnt doubt it cause its only 1 dislike

Great Jacket too! Anyone know the brand?
All these guys with the chops better than joe, when they can write songs like him and inject intensity, feel, and passion as he does, maybe we'll hear about them until then zip it.

I would be terrified to move. I would probably say what if I hurt it Joe? I don't know if I could grab the guitar Joe had just played lol.
I remember Free and Kossoff and I guess the guy with the red necklace was just passing through so could be excused for being so rude.
Nice guitar, but not nice enough to take off your leather jacket ....zipper scratches...DAMM !
The more I watch the guy who "snubs" joe, the more it looks like he didn't snub him.
He looks like the Snd West Coast under assistent agent...
@czinck1 its supposed to look like a 59 its supposed to be scratched up
Joe is a class act!!!
Yup, PK 066
I have aged and nos paul kossoff guitar. These are very good guitar.I like paul kossoff. And I like Joe.
At that price £7,799.00 Paul Kossoff would have killed him self....
Mr big is a masterpiece. R.I.P Paul. Gibson really finished you off.
Guy to Joes left, "here you go.". Joe Bonamassa says to himself, "ok...i will just play the shit out your guitar thats not tuned and still sound like a badass."
@sngncwby Everyone is there for Joe's benefit are they?
Was Joe improvising at the end or is that an actual song, something from Free-Kossoff ?
The stripped one is more a signature than this one imo. I cant remember ever seeing him play one like this,.
nice to see joe b.paying tribute to his major influences! couldn't agree with him more paul and paul were a force to b reckoned with! just check the isle of wight show! what a festival! i just wish that jimi, paul k. and rory would have jam together! saw young joe b. for the first time in little st.marys, ohio! i said to my girl,"who the fuck is this kid"? he opens with Just Got Paid from THE TOP and fucking ripped it up! a year later he's international!

Dam I wish we had a Andertons here in Canada.
all i'm trying to get is an epiphone 12 string and getting nowhere.
The douchebag incident aside, I love seeing that Joe tunes his guitar just like the rest of us hah.
Noone even offers him a strap either
Just Brilliant!
Is the riff at 1:52 from a Free song? Which?
Assuming you don't need the answer to this over 8 years later but in case somebody is wondering in the future, it's walk in my shadow by free
I love how he's like "hi im joe". Like theres anyone at namm who wont know who JB is :P
@sngncwby no one goes near SRV

I saw the gig in Newcastle when he played it - wow - I was there!
Walk in my shadow :)
You know......
Kermit.
@sngncwby And even after playing it, Joe is left looking around wondering what the hell to do with it since no one seems prepared to take it. Idiots.
Joes mint simple as that!!
