Dunlop is very proud to present two signature pedals that were developed in collaboration with Joe Bonamassa, an artist who is famed for not only being one of the most talented guitarists working today but who also owns one of the most discerning ears when it comes to guitar tone and gear. Joe talks to us about the passion and dedication he has for his craft, the story behind the creation of his signature pedals working alongside Dunlop's product designer Jeorge Tripps, and gives an intimate solo performance where he features his use of these electronics.

JOE BONAMASSA SIGNATURE CRY BABY:
Specially engineered to fit in perfectly with Joe's system, from the way it looks to the way it sounds, this Cry Baby Wah sports a classy copper top with a smooth-finish black body on the outside. On the inside, it features large, vintage-style thru-hole components, a Halo inductor (for added harmonic content), an output buffer (to prevent impedance imbalance with vintage fuzz pedals), and a switch for true-bypass or non-true-bypass operation (Joe prefers non-True Bypass as it darkens the high end). With its huge vocal sweep range, this is one of the most expressive Cry Babys ever, and it's Joe's tool of choice to accentuate every soulful bend and bluesy wail. "The first pedal I ever purchased was a Cry Baby, 25 years ago," he says. "I am so honored to have my name on this pedal and hope it brings you as much fun as it brings me every night on stage."
JOE BONAMASSA SIGNATURE FUZZ FACE:
Following in the footsteps of Fuzz Face masters Eric Johnson, David Gilmour, and Jimi Hendrix-Joe Bonamassa relies on his Fuzz Face to deliver his trademark searing leads. Tested and developed over several world tours, the JBF3 Joe Bonamassa Signature Fuzz Face is voiced specifically for Joe's humbucker-driven tone, adding sustain and thickness for a rich, creamy fuzz. This pedal's hand-wired circuitry is built around matched NOS Russian military germanium transistors for their characteristic warmth and growl. The JBF3 also features classic grey Cliff jacks and Omeg pots all housed in a polished copper finish that will patina over time. "I wanted this Fuzz Face to be a pedal that would instantly transform your tone," Joe says. "It drives you to a different place as a player. Kick on the inspiration box!" Production of the Joe Bonamassa Signature Fuzz Face is limited to a single batch each year.

Years ago I went to see Joe and the theater was half empty. Now, years later you can't even get a ticket. Hard work pays off.
You got to love Joe's work ethic and drive, his thirst for guitar tone, and amazing ability to express it! He's right up there with Clapton and the best guitar players out there!
i met him in boise he taked to me as if he's known me for years! nice guy! and a brilliant guitar player
I love Joe's unique style, while it still pays such tribute to blues classics.
Joe is the best that there is....He is cool, humble and works hard,,,and plays his heart out for the simple love of music,,,,a TRUE musician in every sense of the word.....Never stop playing Joe...
If Swedish: Jonas Bonamasson
Saw JB this past December 2011. What a talent! Just a great guitarist/bluesman.
In Italian: Giovanni Bonamassa
I'm pretty sure that john,,, but i could be wrong
edoardo reni Joe Bonamassa is italian by the way xx
His tone has improved SO much since he skipped alt this extra stuff and went with "Wah->Overdrive->Amp (Bassmann and Twin)". Which is sad, since I love a lot of gear....
I like his attitude , still down to earth and I like his music from the first time I heard him
Just got the wah yesterday after I pre ordered it from Joes web store. It's really great, best wah i've used and i've had quite a few!
ordered the wah yesterday, can't believe I hadn't heard about it since it came out... it's got a buffer which is exactly what I need right now, and that sweep range... incredible (plus it's probably one of the classiest CryBaby's in history)
In danish: Johannes Bonamadsen
That wah sounds great
such unique tone!
im buying his album today not even so much for his talent, although i like, but more for his personality, heck probably that wah pedal too. this guy is just cool.
He is carrying the torch for blues, that is what he is doing. He is also one of the few guitar gods of our generation.
Besides, no one is doing anything new. EVERYTHING being done in music now has been done before. There haven't been any music innovations in 20 years.
That's one classy guy, an icon to me :)
ok....i dont know about anyone else but that wah tone at the end is AMAZING!!!!!
Joe Bonamassa is an absolute fucking champ. The first minute of this video is a testament to what the majority of those of us who have really listenend to him play already knew; that his music comes from a deeply personal and passionate place built on nothing but hard graft. His ascent through word of mouth (primarily) is no accident. Play on, my man, and educate the masses.
French = Jean Bonneau
My guitar hero.
RIGHT ON JOE.
if mexican: José Buena masa
LMAO🤣🤣🤣🤣
Joe ball of masa
Nice to see a pro guitar player who can actually set up all of his own gear without wheeling out a tech to do it. Rock on JB!
1:44 to 2:10 - very very nice tones/melody
@BillDerBerg, thanks. The quest continues...! Tone and touch go together like bread and butter... but it takes one to find the other
wow!
Joes wah is probaly my favourite wah sound. I'm so happy he finally got a siganture wah out. The fuzz personally i find meh though. I've heard comparisons to the regular silicon and actually prefered the silicon. But hot damn on that wah :)
He's coming to OKC, Ok in April and hell yeah I'm going. Not missing yet not even for god.
Any one notice what transistors are in his fuzz face in this video? The nkt 275 with the big G on them, that are in the stock fuzz faces. Interesting.
Nice to hear another player who likes the treble cut you get from one or two non true bypass effects in my chain.
@Toraboramusic I used to have a TSL but it kept breaking. One of my favourite amps ever. Im borrowing a friends plexi soon so i can try the fuzz face thing.
What is the music before the Wah Wah Demo please ??
Why do we see different transistors in that onecompared with the ones
we see in the Bonamassa Fuzz Face ?
The song is called: the meaning of the blues
the album it's from is: dust bowl
BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION FOREVER!!!!!!!
@BillDerBerg thanks for your post. Well the plot thickens. I think you have a very good point there about using a FF through a non-MV amp as i do find if i use the FF through the clean channel of my JVM the sound is definetly better, (with all other drives off). One thing about the Joe B. FF is that it IS fitted with russian ex military germanium transistors, not the silicon ones. Ill have to try it with my Strat', having single coils -through the clean channel. Thanks again for your post!
In which songs Joe Bonamassa played solos with wah pedal?
You just won the internet.
@timmy47 venus isle is a work of art. Has to be his best material to date. A mate lent me the album years ago now and it took me to a different place. Mind blowing stuff!
Good post.
This man is laying down a body of work that is of the highest calibre, that people will be analysing and unravelling in years to come,,,, I believe he is the most important musician alive today. Time will reveal the importance of his canon.
If he were Brazilian, he'd be Jose Bossanova.
Is Brazilian a language?
What is that song in the start?
joe, where is ur guitar tech?
@8653011 ..same with mine! Its sitting next to my JVM and hasnt been played in months now due to what seems like a blown capacitor, as i cannot get the bias even close on each side. It all started by blowing a tube, (In half !), and the amp tech in town wont touch TSL's as he says they are a pain to work on and are VERY unreliable. I think he has a point there! (Im already on my second PCB). Let me know how you gwt on with the FF through a plexi...? All the best.
@Toraboramusic ... you're welcome bro. ;) I must've gotten Joe B's Fuzz Face mixed up w/ Eric Johnson's signature FF, which has silicone diodes & *IMO* is not as much a Fuzz Face as it is a Big Muff w/ less "fuzz". ... 'GOOD' luck in your tone quest... :)
Probably not for gigs or such, but for just messing around with his guitar for a Dunlop-commercialistic video? I guess so - and it helps establish him as the hard-working man, that he is, to the viewer. And I also concur on the fact that he might enjoy the process of setting it up.
@chenjunhao I guess not on his tour, but at least he knows how to do it. He knows how his setup works because he designed it himself. Many famous and mostly younger guitarists today dont even know how to do that ;)
@Toraboramusic not Joe B "fan" but I would figure using a Fuzz Face (especially one w/ silicon diodes) w/ a humbucker guitar & also a master volume amp not a good tonal idea- such a combination would sound like a mushy, grungey, oaty mess. Best tonal use of a FF is one w/ germanium PNP diodes, a guitar w/ single-coil/P-90 type pups & a cleaner non-MV amp like a plexi @ reasonably loud volume. Gets lots of dynamics & clarity... nice throaty roar @ even higher stage volumes...
Wenn schon denn schon, JUPP BONAMASSINGER! Jupp ist die Abkürzung für Josef!
@chenjunhao lol probably not all of it! but im sure he has a hand in it
@BillDerBerg I think Joe uses his FF through the category 5 plexi which has no master
@saw4fire I agree. I was simply saying that my fuzz face isnt for me. it is not the 'voice' i wanted to produce. Great for some i am sure, but not for all, plus my FF was poorly constructed. NO comparison was made between Joe and EJ apart from their similarities. If you research Joe as i have, you will see a lot of folks think Joe is influenced heavily by Eric. Listen. I am a huge JB fan and have all his albums and seen him live many times. I, as you have an opinion- is that ok with you?
In Greek: Ιωσήφ Βοναμάσσης / Iosif Vonamassis
If English: John GoodDough
@chenjunhao isn't that the way it should be? ;)
@8653011 ..well thats very interesting - i didnt know that. I should never have sold my Marshall 1987X Plexi non MV amp! Only got MV amps now, a TSL and JVM, although the JVM does have a very clean 'clean' channel
@saw4fire no offence, but you need to listen to more EJ if you dont think he has that amount of range. he's done blues, jazz rock fusion, solo acoustic, smooth jazz, ballads, hard rockers, country, vocal and instrumental and plays piano. listen to venus isle and listen to the musical landscapes he creates. eric is one of the best musicians i have ever heard and has a style that is pretty unique
I'm not talking about guitar playing, I'm talking about music in general. Everyone who is "original" today, are recreations of past artists.
If Egyptian: Show Ponamáśa
Sadly, just respect.
Joe needs to Check out young Jake Haldenwang. I know a dream of this young prodigy would be to play with Joe. Check out him on RUclips. I too would love to see this happen for this young man! Jake has played with Buddy Guy and Many other notables!!!
If he would Greek he would be called Joannis Bonamassopoulos!
If he were Polish, he would be Józef Bonamasa
gooo Joe!!!! ^^
Why every pedal have to be colored bronze?
@saw4fire ... you know what they 'SAY' - Jack of(f) all trades... Master of "none"...
nonsense! geoffrey teese & i designed an ORIGINAL wah, ser# 000, which i named the "wheels of fire" wah, based on my eq settings from his real mccoy rmc3 (the one with the 10 dip switches inside the unit), back in 2003. i asked him to put a vol/on-off pot, that kicked in a boost after passing a center detent, midway, & geoffrey had the BRILLIANT idea of adding his halo inductor (the stock wof wah DOESN'T have one, which explains a LOT). throaty doesn't even BEGIN to describe it if u add gain/od!
If he would be a pornstar he would be JOE MASSIVEBONA
That's not how it works... these companies approach him wanting to make custom products for him. Because he's awesome
Found out: The meaning of the blues
Indonesian : Zoel bonarudin
In Chinese: 喬 波納馬薩
If he were Brazilian he would be José Boamassa!
If he were a Star Wars character he would be Eoj Assama-Nob
If Romanian: Ionică Bonamescu
intro was alike MJ)
@Toraboramusic A craftsman does not use his tools as an excuse.
Joe is Joe. I think he makes the impossible look effortless. If you listen to his albums, you would hear his range. He plays everything from slide blues to country to Tom Waits. Eric Johnson is a great guitarist, but I have not seen him display that kind of range. Debating who is better is a fool's argument. Saying that Joe B. is an Eric J. clone shows a lack of familiarity with Joe B's work.
A real musician does all the heavy lifting.
i dont even think hes that great, the man does have chops
he has to carry all the stuff and set them all up himself??
I fell for the fuzz face hype and bought one. I have to say i really dont like it at all, infact i cant use it now and thats with a '73 Les Paul through a Marshall. I wouldnt want to risk purchasing the Wah. Sounds great in the demo's -till you get one for yourself. Plus mine was cheaply made and the knobs all came loose and had to repair it myself.
Love joe's earlier material, a lot -but i find he is losing himself and sounding more like an Eric Johnson clone these days.
some how I doubt that he does his set up by himself.
If Japanese: ジョーボナマッサ
If he were south american he would be Jose Alberto B..!!!
In korean : 조 보나마사
I wouldn't care how rich I was, I simply wouldn't trust people touching my rig.
If he were Mexican, he'd be cutting grass with me.
I hope not. I worked as a roadie for some smaller bands when I was young and I injured my fingers like 3 times a week. Everything is goddamn heavy and whenever you put something in a trailer you get your finger stuck all the time. I really hope he is more careful of his fingers then I was!
If he would Serbian,..... he would, probably, be in The Hague Tribunal.
Serbian: Josif Bonamašević
If he were Malaysian he'd be EH JOE BOE!
If he was Irish he'd be Jo' O Bonamaherty
Oh my. What are The Flaming Lips doing now that The Butthole Surfers weren't doing 20 years ago? And, what are Sleigh Bells doing today that The Beastie Boys weren't doing 25 years ago? The answer is the same.....nothing.
Yes, Jimi Hendrix did pull his style out of nowhere. When Hendrix came around, no one had EVER heard anything like it before. You couldn't compare it to anything.
If he were Russian he would be Гена Бонамазов
If he was Dutch, he would be Jan Van Bondermans
if he was swiss he would be sepp guetchäs
If Colombian: Chepe Pandebono
Basically, the crybaby in a new housing + Joe's name and associated extra cost .
If Finnish: Joonas Bonanen
