Thank you for taking the time to make this video, I saw somewhere that you can just "smack" the light with your hand and get it to work. I did that 3 years ago and it's been working up till now. Its out again and time to replace it!

Thank you for this wonderful video! I ordered my third back up light from Amazon for $82 and I purchased the panel remover tool that you suggested. My vehicle is a 2004 armada . I am a 36-year-young female and your video helps me do this so easily and saved me so much money. Thank you thank you thank you

    Great Video.
I just changed my brake light on a 2014 Nissan Armada Platinum. This ALSO has the additional 3 nuts that you have to remove similar to the QX56. They are easy to spot, they're covered with Black Rubber Caps, they are also 8MM nuts.
    A couple tips..
    1. Use a magnetic screwdriver. The nuts are very tiny and easy to drop.
    2. The molding piece had a surprisingly sharp edge on it (the part towards the window).
    3. When putting the molding back on put the sharp edge against the window (under the black rubber trim) and slide it in as far as it will go then give it a little push. I battled with this for 20 minutes trying to get it back on.
    4. The two 'nuts' that hold the light to the spoiler weren't really nuts...they were hammered tin/aluminum that were shaped like nuts. They were troublesome to remove but still 11MM.
    5. Do yourself a favor and buy the grommet tool online or at Menards/Lowes.

These kinds of tips were the whole purpose of this video. It's to help everyday people save a few dollars by doing it themselves, rather than spending hundreds at a dealership. Much appreciated!

Thanks for the DIY video. I have a 2006 Nissan Armada that looks like your Armada. The Nissan dealership gave me a written estimate of $443 dollars to replace the same brake lamp.

Mine is a 2004, so it should be the same process with your 06. Good luck!

Excellent video, thanks for making it available to us. Using your instructions, this job took me all of 30 minutes to complete.

This totally helped. There were 3 additional bolts I had to remove from inside the truck lid in order to get that fiberglass casing freed up. This is a very difficult task but saved me $460 from what the dealership wanted to fix it ($90 on eBay for light, $555 dealership wanted!). 2005 Nissan Armada. Also I used plastic bike tire irons and a flat tip screwdriver to pull it open. Plastic tire irons helped to not scratch the paint!

You are the man! I have been annoyed by this issue. Nissan wanted over $350 to replace this light. Every now and then it turns on so maybe it is just loose. Thank You for showing me how to get to it. Very much appreciated.

Thank you for this video. We had to replace our light and used this for instruction... Extremely helpful and we avoided breaking the grommets. Grateful!

I have a 2006 Armada and was following these instructions - thanks a million ..... or at least the $250 it saved me from taking it to the dealer - and I wanted to add one point. I'm guessing there are some differences between the years or Nissan vs Infinity but the 4 grommets you mention that need to be pried up to get to the light. On my Armada (2006) you have the two very outside grommets but there are 3 bolts which are behind rubber plugs instead of the two grommets you have in the center. The three bolts are located in between the two symmetrical rubber hoses which protect wires and the washer fluid tube which run from the car body to the back gate. These two hoses enter the rear gate just inside the hinges to the back gate. If you pause your video at 1:43 you can see the left side (driver side) hose at the bottom of the screen. Your vehicle doesn't have the three rubber plugs and thus you have the grommets.
If you have these three extra bolts you need to remove the nuts.

Will be attempting this on my 2004 QX56 - but, will go to harbor freight to get the "right tool" first. Thanks for your time and consideration on posting this helpful video. Btw, in Minneapolis, MN -Infiniti dealer wants $175 for the light and $170 for labor install.
    Thank you!

Good to hear! When you pick up your panel/trim removal tool, try to get one longer than the one in my video. Mine was a little short for the plastic rivets towards the back of the spoiler.

A common problem with these brake lights is a loose connector - LED lights almost never burn out. An easy fix is to bang on the housing around the light with a rubber mallet. Seriously - hit it a couple of times and the light will probably come back on. Worked on my 2005 QX 56.

zindallas this comment saved me even more than the video! rubber mallet fixed it in 5 seconds!!

Its going to go out again. I still think you do what this video says but instead of replacing the light, just clean and grease the connections to keep corrosion from returning

No, the back side of the spoiler is connected by two sided tape and is really difficult to replace if you take it off. I just pried it open enough to get to the backside of the brake light nuts without breaking the seal of the tape.

It's funny how I ended up watching this video. I went to my local autozone and tried to look up bulb part number for this high mount brake light. All I see on the guide is "LED". I see all these bulbs with the word LED but comes with part number. Everyone was busy so couldn't ask for help I just left. Got home and pulled out the manual and looked up how to remove the brake light cover maybe I'll see the part number. It says on there to bring to dealer for replacement. I was like WHAT to replace a bulb need to go to dealer? So I dug deeper and found out how stupid of nissan to have to make it hard to replace this part that's so highly visible and looked very accessible. Even the headlight bulb that's in between the grill and engine can be easily replaced with one hand! Anyways, thanks for this video.

FYI IN a 2006 QX56 there are 3 additional screws and not grammets. They are covered by plastic covers at the very rear of the spoiler.

I have a 2008 qx56 and need to get this done to. but I checked ebay and there's aftermarket brake lights for 69 bucks. vs the 100 bucks for oem. is there much difference or same?

    • @ttttenney
      @ttttenney  9 лет назад

+183guti Sorry, I wouldn't be able to advise you on the difference, being I only bought OEM version on eBay. That said, I've usually had good luck with aftermarket products, although I wouldn't want to replace the light again because I was trying to save a few bucks.
