    I’m confused on how grafting and cross pollinating is.
    1. What is cross pollinating and self pollination
    2) what’s cross breeding
    3) what’s grafting
    4) how would you be able to make your own hybrid fruit or plant ?
    I know these questions sound stupid but I literally can’t comprehend them. Like do you pollinate one flower and then pollinate the other aswell which makes a hybrid ? And if so when you grow the hybrid, will it be it’s own plant ?

      Hello. I got the megalanthus (yellow dragon fruit with thorns) from this seller: sandiego.craigslist.org/ssd/grd/d/dragon-fruits-cactus-cutting-or-rooting/7020541378.html
      And I got the Israel golden yellow (no thorns) from a seller located in Brea, California which was also listed on craigslist at the time when I bought it. Thank you for your question and thank you for watching. 👍😊👍 Cheers.

    Aloha. Thank you for sharing. Have you noticed a difference in the look and shape of the hybrid fruit? It appears as though the hybrid megalanthus had a hylocerus type end vs the other self pollinated fruit. Cheers

      @sackboymahalo  3 года назад

      Aloooha. I have not. The seedlings that came from this "cross pollinated" fruit are still in the seed starting system. Thank you for noting that, I will be on the lookout once I plant the seedlings outside. Thank you for your comment and thank you for watching. 👍😊👍 Cheers

    I don't know anything about horticulture, but, maybe if you were to graft the seedlings to another plant you could get the hybrid fruit faster? Also, when you create hybrid seeds by cross-pollinating, the fruit develops as the same fruit as the original plant, right? I just wanted to make sure it was the same as for other plants like peppers. Thank you for teaching me how to grow dragonfruit! I love these plants ha ha.

    • @sackboymahalo
      @sackboymahalo  4 года назад

      Hello. I have heard that grafting seedlings to another plant will produce fruit in a shorter time. I believe that there is a chance to get the same fruit as the original plant as well as a chance to get a completely different "hybrid" fruit. Thank you for your comment and thank you for watching. 👍😀👍 Cheers

    I bought some dragonfruit cuttings from a botanist. He said you can’t use the pollen of megalanthus to cross pollinate other varieties because it has different number of chromosomes. Does that mean you can’t make a hybrid with this variety?

    • @sackboymahalo
      @sackboymahalo  4 года назад +1

      Hello. A great question in which I do not have an answer. 😀 if that is the case then maybe doing it the other way might work.......by using other pollens to pollinate the megalanthus. I have observed that the megalanthus gives better fruit when pollinated by its own pollens as compared to using pollens from other varieties. One viewer commented that the megalanthus is an "heirloom variety" which I believe means it is "true to seed" or it will not produce a hybrid. Hopefully this experiment will confirm or disprove it. Thank you for your comment and thank you for watching. 👍😊👍 Cheers

    I was very intrigued by your creation of a hybrid, congratulations! I wanted to know what happens if I manually pollinate a Pitaya flower with pollen from other cacti or other flowers of different breeds (eg daisies)? If pollen is incompatible, can it ruin the growth of the fruit? And above all, can I mix various types of pollen together when they pollinate manually, or is it advisable to pollen only once? Thank you very much.

    • @sackboymahalo
      @sackboymahalo  4 года назад +3

      Hello. I believe that as long as they are the same species, cross pollination will work. You can probably experiment with daisies or mix different pollens and see what will happen. The worst thing that can happen is that the fruit will not develop.
      I don't know what will be the outcome of my "hybrid" experiment..... only time will tell.

    How old is this megalanthus plant? And how many years until you were able to harvest the fruits?

      @sackboymahalo  3 года назад

      Hello. I planted Ecuador megalanthus March 16, 2018 so the plant is 2 years 7 months old. It currently has fruits but will not be ready for harvest until probably March 2021. I have experienced that megalanthus fruits takes 6 to 7 months to ripen after the pollination/flower bloom has occurred. The seedlings that sprouted on this video have not been transplanted yet.
