  • Removing Dragon Fruit Flower helps your fruit stay fungal and pest free. This helps with limiting humidity on your Dragon Fruit to prevent it from having any rot that may happen. Especially, if it starts to rain then moisture will be trapped inside which can later cause your fruit to have issues. It also prevents bugs from eating from the inside out and when removing the flower you can see exactly what’s going on. Check out this video to see WHEN and HOW I remove the Dragon Fruit Flower!

    Oh my God ... Oh my God ... I've got four fruits growing and getting red. And there are more three I think they're very "pregnant". I tried to take off the flower but it was already dry and hard to remove so I left there. Next year I'll remove them. Thank you for your advice Richard.

    Can you talk about how to tell when a flower is successfully pollinated? All my flowers become bulbous and appear halfway like a mature fruit, but then they eventually fall off before full maturity. I'm wondering if this means they were not successfully pollinated.

    My dragon fruit rarely fruit. I"ll have13 and only one will fruit. They all blossomed but turned yellow real quick and dies. What am I doing wrong? Are there not enough bees. My husband tried pollinating with qtips but no luck. This will be my fifth year and I only harvested 3 in all those years.

    Don’t need to remove the flower. When the fruit grow up, the dry flower will remove naturally. It’s not good for fruit to force for removing the flower part.

      Actually removing the flower is good cause in the rainy season the flower root and maggots start to eat the whole flower and turned the young fruit drop

      @a-yiathoj6391 2 года назад +2

      @@emmalaniceberano7270 Some don't but it gets dusty inside if left too long and other things can grow in there because the flower is basically dying. As Richard said, it can create bad conditions for the fruit if you don't.
      Besides, the stigma is pretty hard to remove while still fully moist.

    Hi Richard
    Thank you for your very informative videos. I just learned that my “night blooming cactus” is really a dragon fruit plant about two months ago. I have been enjoying the plant for 10 years! I have quite a few that grow in my yard. After learning about dragon fruit from your videos we pollinated several flowers and had one fruit. It was delicious. Then we pollinated 27 flowers in the next bloom. None grew into fruit. Then I saw the video where you removed the flower and then the stigma. I just pollinated 5 tonight. Will try and follow your instructions over the next week or so.
    Do you think that because the flowers and stigma were not removed was the reason we had no fruit? I live in Florida.
    Thank you for any insight you may have.

    Hi Richard, I seem to have bacteria forming on the cactus arm ( yellow with brown spot) where 4 fruits are on. Will the fruits still grow normally ? I plan to cut off the arm after the fruit is harvested if it matures even with the damaged segment. Any suggestions on how to prevent bacterial rot?

    • @GraftingDragonFruit
      @GraftingDragonFruit  4 года назад +2

      Hi Cynthia, your fruits will still grow normally so no need to worry about that. I would let the whole fruiting cycle finish and once its done you can do 2 things.
      1. Treat it with copper fungicide and spray the infected area to stop the spread and kill the fungus.
      2. Cut the whole cutting off and discard it away from your other plants so that it doesn't spread.
      I hope this helps, you can search through my videos for info on how to treat cactus fungus. There's a video of me showing ways to remove them. - Richard

    1- I’ve noticed dragonfruit plants produce two types of limbs, one kind tends to get chunky full of water while the other is skinny, long and seems to grow faster, how should I choose which limbs to
    Prune, long and skinny, the chunkier ones, or both?
    2- is it true that weather needs to reach a certain temperature for dragon flowers to actually become fruit?

    How about if you cut them by scissors and accidentally you cut the stigma after 4-5 days? Is there is no detrimental effect to the development of the fruit?

    • @GraftingDragonFruit
      @GraftingDragonFruit  5 лет назад

      Hi red xcube, if you cut them by scissors and also the stigma after 4-5 days your fruit will still be fine! It takes only 2-3 days for the pollen to successful pollinate the stigma and become a fruit. I just wait 4-5 days because it’s easier to snap and pull off once they separate from each other. And the stigma is still too moist to pull, its latched on real good. Usually about 8-10 days the stigma can be yanked off easier. There a video of me doing that in my channel.

Would you be able to tell me what i am doing wrong on the dragon fruit flowers, When i am to pollinate the flowers ,some that are supposed to be opened will not open at all ,cause the tips of the flower are stuck like glue ,Could this be from lack of watering.or from the ants that are on these flowers at earlier buding stage,Please help me if you know the cause, God bless you .

    • @GraftingDragonFruit
      @GraftingDragonFruit  5 лет назад +2

      Hi James Billy, what variety of Dragon Fruit are you having this happening to you? Some varieties take long to bloom than others. Also, are you adding any type of fertilizer to encourage strength to help with blooming? These factors will help me identify what is happening. I never heard of a sterile flower and they tend to always open. It might just be a late bloomer. Keep me updated and I’ll try to help you figure this out. We want them to bloom!

    They can handle heat, drought, humidity and poor soils but will grow tastier fruit with regular watering and rich soil. Choose a sunny spot and then boost the soil with compost, manure and certified organic pelletised fertiliser. A dose of lime is also beneficial.

      If you’re getting maggots inside the flower one thing I could suggest is using a mesh bag to tie over the flower. After 4-7 days you can remove the mesh bag with the flower so that no maggots eggs can be laid in there to hatch.

    Hi. I didn’t know about pulling the flower off. Thank you for showing how that is done. Your video’s are very helpful. Thanks! Question, if you don’t mind. … I live in Central Florida and have a Haley’s Comet Dragonfruit. It gets mostly sun and is well drained. I had 5 blooms this year and hand pollinated all of them. (One on one night, and other 4 the night after) on the night I had 4, I used all 4 to pollinate each other. Few days later, seemed like they took. They were firm. On the 5 th day, I could see the color separation and was able to pull the bloom off like you showed. But a day or so later, they turned yellow. 3 fell off the next day. The other 2 have some pink, but also kind of yellow. What did I do wrong? (Going to send this your dragonfruit friend as well, please don’t be offended. I’ve learned from both of you, lol)

    Hello! I really like the work your doing, your vids are very informative! But I'm wondering if there's a way to reverse newly planted cuttings becoming mushy and blackening. Also, is there a dragon fruit community on telegram i could join? THANKS!

      Do some pruning, tipping, and feeding with organic fertilizers. Also, make sure your DF plants are getting enough sunlight. Hope this helps.

      You need to hand pollinate it with it's own pollen or cross pollinate with another variety. Depends on what kind you have

    Hi there I lTownsville Australia
    Iv been following your videos for some time now
    6 nights ago my dragonfruit flowered so I went and collected some pollen because I new that I had about 14 flowers going to be ready at the same time.
    So today being day 6 I thought I should remove the flowers off the fruit
    Townsville has had constant rain now for 4 days now and the flowers are very mushy and hard to remove so what should I do as I’ve had my dragon fruit plants now four 4 years and they have never produced fruit so I started following you for guidance and this year is the first time I have followed your instructions

    Aloha. We live in Hawaii. Last year no problems with dragonfruit. Beautiful, ripe, not eaten by pests. This year every one is eaten by a pest - all the way through - with holes on two sides and hollowed out. We have geckos and birds but I never see them eating the fruit. After the fruit starts to die, ants show up. Any ideas as to what is eating them and how to prevent it. Mahalo.

      You did it correctly! Removing the flower after 4-5 days will prevent any further damage from the insects
