In this video, I’ll be showing you everything I use to get these seeds growing very quickly by using a seedling heating mat. Check out this video to see how it’s done!

You're so excellent you've managed to convince me that I won't kill them before they have a chance to move beyond seedlings!!
Don't get me wrong, I have countless plants and even a few I've grown from seeds, but those are flukes without question. I don't have a heat mat but I do have a shelf over a radiator. Good thing these things come with a billion seeds!! The few I've flicked here and there in potted plants in my freezing kitchen have popped up under the regular coil bulbs my other plants are straining to survive under. Hopefully they'll love!
I'm poverty level poor and my apartment gets very little light, even without the leaves on the looming trees surrounding the building. It's barely above zero here in Minneapolis so I'm convinced that my plants survive on love alone in my care. I'm just not very dexterous when it comes to seedlings but that doesn't stop me from planting just about every one I can!
Thank you for this! I'm going to keep the faith and look for the next step in your series.

I bought a fruit and used some of the seeds to sowed into a plastic container with a lid. I used a heat mat at nights only I believed that that there was 100% germination after 4 to 5 days. I did this before seeing your video. I am totally impressed that I did it right.

I am in AZ. Keeping the seeds warm is not a problem, infact I've found that our excessive heat may actually inhibit or out right stop germination. I have successfully germinated red and white flesh dragonfruit but not all with the yellow. Have had no germination of yellow dragonfruit seeds at all. Have tried multiple methods with zero results.
At this point they are set up in water only, moist paper towels, and multiple types of potting soil. I have even treated the seeds with a dilute acid to imitate a digestive environment....nothing.
I enjoy your videos, thank you.

I tried experimenting one day. I put some soil in a clear plastic container, put some dragon fruit seeds in the dirt from a fruit I picked up at a grocery store, covered the seeds with light soil, lightly watered it and covered it with clear plastic top. I placed the container on top of my fridge and to be honest I totally forgot about it. Few weeks later I happened to find it again and beautiful sprouts appeared everywhere. Now I'm waiting for them to start developing the 🌵 look before I transplant them into small, individual pots. I already have few trellises full of dragons growing in my garden, but thought this would be a fun experiment. We shall see how it grows lol.

Richard, I've been following you and Kevin for about the last year. I live in Northern Utah and really want to defy nature as far as growing dragon fruit. I found a cutting at a local store, a couple moon cactus at Lowes for root stock but can't seem to get the grafted top to grow. Could just take more time. I'll be building a small green house that will house my dragon fruit, mango, and sugar cane so I really look forward to everything I can learn from you and Kevin and really appreciate all the videos that you post. Thank you! Also, you don't happen to sell your seeds to more experimental people like me, do you? I'm assuming that I've only obtained Vietnam white, but haven't been able to get the seeds to germinate with multiple different ways of trying. The cutting I obtained had 2 leaves, the larger one I'm trying to root, and the little one started growing 2 more leaves as of last week,so that really exciting for me. Any advice is great!

Hi Richard! I really love your channel and it has inspired me to try growing dragon fruit in AZ. I have a question I was hoping you could answer please 🙏 I was recently able to purchase established cuttings that were already rooted and sprouting new arms, but the person I bought them from hadn't trellised them yet, so some of the new growth is very looong and very skinny. When wrapped with garden tape, it reaches all the way to the top of my 4ft trellis already! Do you recommend I cut those off, keeping the thicker base pieces and let it establish new growth while trellised? Or will those skinny long arms plump up eventually and put off new aerial roots? If it's the latter I feel like I might be able to get fruit way faster but would love to hear your opinion. Also, some of the established cuttings have multiple long arms. Keep or prune and keep only one main stem? I know you say to prune some of the new growth once it's cascading over the top and fruiting, but I wasn't sure if the same concept applies as it's still in the "growing vertically" stage. Thank you in advance :)

I love your videos and I'm excited to see all the new varieties... but this isn't a great way to grow DF seedlings lol... unless you wanna eat them as microgreens... the best way by far is plant them in individual 1 inch cells. Spray them once or twice a day. No need to acclimate. Straight into east/west sunny window as soon as they pop out...

    1. do you need the thermostart to check the temperature of the heating mat or you just plug it in the outlet and use it ?
    2. do you plug ( the heating mat) in the outlet continuously in 14 days (/until you see the DF cutting root) ?
    3. where you put the heating mat on, is it hot/ damage the surface that we put the heating mat during these 14 days ?

    • @GraftingDragonFruit

      1. You don't need the one with thermostat control. I used the one that just plug and play.
      2. I do leave the plug in the outlet continuously until the DF has roots.
      3. I put the heating mat in an area that is dry and did not cause any damage.

Hi Richard, I really love and am learning so much from your channel. I got some beautiful and delicious pink and yellow dragon fruits from the farmer's market. I had never seen these before. They were very soft and delicious. I planted the seeds as you instructed in your video. They started out great, but the cotyledons began to drop off one by one and then the seedlings died. I saw soil bugs crawling around in the soil, but read that they are good for the soil. Anyway, just to be on the safe side, I replanted what was left into some seed starting mix, about 20 seedlings. Now it has been about a week, and they are still dying. I have only about three left. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks

I tried germinating seeds from half a dozen store bought fruits with zero success. Attempt #7 was yet another Ecuador Palora from my local Publix. I was short on containers, so I planted half the seeds and put the remainder in my refrigerator.
After two weeks I had no germination on the initially planted seeds. Not willing to admit defeat, I tried the refrigerated ones. Exact same containers and soil as the failed ones. I expected another failure, but in 5 days I had at least 50 seedlings sprout.
I know this is bad science due to such a small sample size. I just think it's interesting. I used the seed collection method from this channel on every fruit with no success. The only difference I induced on this batch was the refrigeration period. If someone that's dragon fruit smart has any ideas that would be great. Maybe I wasn't drying the seeds long enough on all the other attempts? I don't know.
Christmas update: I put seeds on the soil but didn't bury them, just left them on the surface. I now have a couple hundred Ecuador Palora's starting. Given current lumber prices, I'll be spending about $40k on trellises this spring.

    Hello Richard
What is the good time of the year to grow seeds? How long, I can keep the seeds and they will grow. How do you separate the seeds from the fruit and preserve them before planting. I am in Texas and it is Fall here. Thanks in advance.

I have a lot of wonderful seedlings but I’m not sure what to do next. Do I just allow them to grow in a bunch until they get bigger, and then separate them?
