- Germinating dragon fruit seeds can sometimes be tricky and frustrating. This method of germinating will speed up the germination time for your seeds to grow and you’ll have much more success. In this video, I’ll be showing you everything I use to get these seeds growing very quickly by using a seedling heating mat. Check out this video to see how it’s done!

@@angelacabral6758 Do you fertilize your dragon fruit and have the right soil?
The English is top notch!
😁
I used to resist tech but the more I see cool comments like this, the more I appreciate it
Great content. Please do another video on what to do after this one with the sprouts. When to separate and repot them type of stuff. It would be greatly appreciated!
My thoughts exactly. He has so many sprouts in those containers. How does he separate them out and up pot them? Would definitely like see what to do next in another video.
Thanks to you Richard, I have successfully germinated my favorite yellow DF. They are on trellises and about 3 feet tall already. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with the rest of us. ❤
Would love a video on transplanting these and seedling care!! This video was very useful, thanks
You're so excellent you've managed to convince me that I won't kill them before they have a chance to move beyond seedlings!!
Don't get me wrong, I have countless plants and even a few I've grown from seeds, but those are flukes without question. I don't have a heat mat but I do have a shelf over a radiator. Good thing these things come with a billion seeds!! The few I've flicked here and there in potted plants in my freezing kitchen have popped up under the regular coil bulbs my other plants are straining to survive under. Hopefully they'll love!
I'm poverty level poor and my apartment gets very little light, even without the leaves on the looming trees surrounding the building. It's barely above zero here in Minneapolis so I'm convinced that my plants survive on love alone in my care. I'm just not very dexterous when it comes to seedlings but that doesn't stop me from planting just about every one I can!
Thank you for this! I'm going to keep the faith and look for the next step in your series.
I bought a fruit and used some of the seeds to sowed into a plastic container with a lid. I used a heat mat at nights only I believed that that there was 100% germination after 4 to 5 days. I did this before seeing your video. I am totally impressed that I did it right.
Do you have a video from germination through adulthood? I would like to see that long term process. I would be so overwhelmed with all those sprouts!
Would love this as well.
Actually, he has a Playlist, I just noticed. ruclips.net/video/yqyyhYvnMrY/видео.html
hi do you have a part two on this one, I'd like to see how it grows from the sprouts to cactus that would be amazing thanks

Just found your channel and I'm a beginning garden and I want to grow dragon fruit...this video made me feel like I've done it before because you explained it step by step perfectly
Thank you!
Fab video , tried a Dragon Fruit today & have saved some of the seeds & hoping to germinate them ☺️
Thanks Richard for sharing this tip! Great video!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so very much for sharing this information.
You are so welcome!
Thank you! Very helpful.
great vid, thanks. I am going to be growing mine in pots (zone 5a) wish me luck!
Great video. I have got to try grafting dragon fruit from my own seeds. Thank you
HI Richard...im here from a video on epic gardener you were featured in. Thanks for your channel. Im from the UK and just germinated a dragonfruit from seed. I like to ask for your advice please? What soil is best to use at this stage and next ? thanks so much!
I am in AZ. Keeping the seeds warm is not a problem, infact I've found that our excessive heat may actually inhibit or out right stop germination. I have successfully germinated red and white flesh dragonfruit but not all with the yellow. Have had no germination of yellow dragonfruit seeds at all. Have tried multiple methods with zero results.
At this point they are set up in water only, moist paper towels, and multiple types of potting soil. I have even treated the seeds with a dilute acid to imitate a digestive environment....nothing.
I enjoy your videos, thank you.
Chuck
Now I know why my first seedlings did not make it. Thank You. Will Try again, and do it your way.
No problem!
I got hella TK noodle soup cups from last year. You're vids are hella helpful. I appreciate it, man!
Thanks for the video it was a lot of help
That water bottle sprinkler you made is dope! 😊👍
How do you get the seeds from the dragon fruit? Do you have a video on that?? Thank you so much for your videos.. I love them . and they make me feel confident that I can do this!!!
Yes, he does have videos on them. Type his channel name along with seed collecting (or something like that)
Yes I do! ruclips.net/video/ZhyPXWK9Prw/видео.html
You're awesome 👌. Germinate on top of fridge also. Its perfect temperature 🌡
Great stuff- thank you ! Just got some yellow dragonfruit plants
I tried experimenting one day. I put some soil in a clear plastic container, put some dragon fruit seeds in the dirt from a fruit I picked up at a grocery store, covered the seeds with light soil, lightly watered it and covered it with clear plastic top. I placed the container on top of my fridge and to be honest I totally forgot about it. Few weeks later I happened to find it again and beautiful sprouts appeared everywhere. Now I'm waiting for them to start developing the 🌵 look before I transplant them into small, individual pots. I already have few trellises full of dragons growing in my garden, but thought this would be a fun experiment. We shall see how it grows lol.
Nice! What’s the update bro?
Thanks much Richard. Valuable tips to me - a beginner. 🤓👍
You know you're pinoy if you have a "tabo" at home. :D
Keep up the great work Richard! You're awesome!
Hi Richard , are you going to be naming these new variety and are you going to make a video on it
So are they true to type? I’m confused on it, I got a store bought white flesh red skin dragonfruit but I’m not sure if they will be the same or now
Or is it only a new variety if they need another plant to be pollinated
Yes I am!
They will be a whole new variety because I cross pollinated them with a different variety of pollen
Thank you for this video! I´m from Austria and it will be a little harder to plant Dragonfruits but I will try it and maybe I´m one of a little group in Austria that grow these beatiful fruits

Hey Rich, nice work dude! Have you tried to make orange juice with some pieces of cold dragon fruits? The result is awesome, sooo tasty and colorful. Is there any chance I can buy some seeds from you to get more varieties for my collection here in Brazil? Love your videos, keep going!
Richard, I've been following you and Kevin for about the last year. I live in Northern Utah and really want to defy nature as far as growing dragon fruit. I found a cutting at a local store, a couple moon cactus at Lowes for root stock but can't seem to get the grafted top to grow. Could just take more time. I'll be building a small green house that will house my dragon fruit, mango, and sugar cane so I really look forward to everything I can learn from you and Kevin and really appreciate all the videos that you post. Thank you! Also, you don't happen to sell your seeds to more experimental people like me, do you? I'm assuming that I've only obtained Vietnam white, but haven't been able to get the seeds to germinate with multiple different ways of trying. The cutting I obtained had 2 leaves, the larger one I'm trying to root, and the little one started growing 2 more leaves as of last week,so that really exciting for me. Any advice is great!
Hi Nathan, I'm currently not selling any of my seeds but might do so in the future. If you need cuttings I do offer them and have a few left available. Email me graftingdragonfruit@gmail.com
Im growing them in montana right nest to the Canadian border
@@dominiquepreputin8769 I am assuming you're doing it indoor? How is it.... i am Winnipeg and I want to grow some
They have sprouted very nicely, but in struggling to get them to grow mutch more than that, yes they are indoor
Can u please make a follow up video for these germinated seeds , curious on how to take care of a 6 month seedling plant
Love this video! Thank you for sharing your wisdom
Yo thanks so much it took me 10 days this will be SOOO much faster ty
No problem!
@@GraftingDragonFruit wait u need to pollente your dragon fruit 🤔
Hi Richard! I really love your channel and it has inspired me to try growing dragon fruit in AZ. I have a question I was hoping you could answer please 🙏 I was recently able to purchase established cuttings that were already rooted and sprouting new arms, but the person I bought them from hadn't trellised them yet, so some of the new growth is very looong and very skinny. When wrapped with garden tape, it reaches all the way to the top of my 4ft trellis already! Do you recommend I cut those off, keeping the thicker base pieces and let it establish new growth while trellised? Or will those skinny long arms plump up eventually and put off new aerial roots? If it's the latter I feel like I might be able to get fruit way faster but would love to hear your opinion. Also, some of the established cuttings have multiple long arms. Keep or prune and keep only one main stem? I know you say to prune some of the new growth once it's cascading over the top and fruiting, but I wasn't sure if the same concept applies as it's still in the "growing vertically" stage. Thank you in advance :)
Very well narrated Sir how long does it take for them to germinate?
Thanks for the video Richard, it’s very informative for new DF growers like me.
Glad it was helpful!
You should try growing pitaya de maya looks like a cross between a prickly pear and a dragon fruit
Can I use the humidity outside of my house as a natural heater?
I have the Vivosun! That thing is awesome. I’ve germinated so much with it haha
I love it!
Great tutorial, I try to germinate from seed not all kinds of seeds are succesful.
Thanks!
First btw nice video
Just wanted to thank you for sharing your knowledge about growing dragon fruits. 🐉
How many days faster will it take until we see the first 🌱 if we use heating pad ?
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
I love your videos and I'm excited to see all the new varieties... but this isn't a great way to grow DF seedlings lol... unless you wanna eat them as microgreens... the best way by far is plant them in individual 1 inch cells. Spray them once or twice a day. No need to acclimate. Straight into east/west sunny window as soon as they pop out...
I put like 20 of them equally spaced in a pot on a windowsill...that way they get room to grow...and the weak ones I take out..I separate them into there own pots with a bamboo stick once they get about 6 inches. :)
Awesome!
Good job easy to follow
Can you also do a review on the neon dragon fruit variety? And how it compares to sugar dragon!! Please I can't find any information about it!!
I don't have that variety but I was told its very similar to Sugar Dragon!
I look forward to new varieties. I wonder what mix I’d want to make
Your videos are great! I have some purple dragon fruit in a property I purchased and I grown fond of the fruit, but its not too sweet. What is the sweetest variety of dragon? I would love to find some cuttings and try my hand at growing them
Good job
Hi I I have a question Monday 10 18 9 pm I separated seeds from a yellow dragon fruit oh by the way it taste sweet 15-20 seeds are turning black to brown is the ok ??? I'm not going to grow to produce fruit just trying it the way you do it

how many days to dry the dragon seeds?
Hello from south Africa. Thank you for the video it helped a lot. Can you please advise when and how do we replant them when its at the stage like in the end of your video?
I need these many in my life
Hey you never did a follow up video on your foliar spray for aerial roots on your dragonfruit. Can you please make a video on it my dragon fruit keeps growing them and I want to maximize it's growth.
Is that like a yes?
you are amazing. I am planning to seed red skin and white interior fruit seeds for germination. Locally, I saw the yellow fruit and that will be the next one. One curious question for you. You are germinating so many plants and what do you do with them. Do you sell or give away.
Love your video. I have 2 questions. Where do you get your seeds and is it ok to sprout seeds in sand. I bought a dragon fruit form my local nursery and sprouted some seeds in sand but the got one inch tall and havent grown any more. Should I transplant them into better soil?
Saw a video where it says just put seeds into water. I'm currently trying this method n have 1 sprouted so far hoping for more n gonna use my heating mat under now
Hi Richard, thank you for your video, I plan to buy this heating mat & have some quesrions
1. do you need the thermostart to check the temperature of the heating mat or you just plug it in the outlet and use it ?
2. do you plug ( the heating mat) in the outlet continuously in 14 days (/until you see the DF cutting root) ?
3. where you put the heating mat on, is it hot/ damage the surface that we put the heating mat during these 14 days ?
1. You don't need the one with thermostat control. I used the one that just plug and play.
2. I do leave the plug in the outlet continuously until the DF has roots.
3. I put the heating mat in an area that is dry and did not cause any damage.
@@GraftingDragonFruit Thank you
Great video. Where do you recommend getting the seeds from? Can you purchase them from a grower? Do you recommend a specific grower(s)? Thanks!

Hi Richard am from Baguio City. I want to know more how to care dragon fruits and how to grow a fruits. How many years to bear fruits. Thank you and GOD Bless
I got a Harrisia Fragrans fruit and specimen that I am going to attempt to grow. I'm in West Central Florida. I'm going to try to use all the seeds from the fruit even though I have never tried the fruit I know it's good because that what I have heard through another video I saw. Quick question. How do you recommend getting all the seeds from the fruit? Thanks for the tips:)
Use a wire strainer that can hold the seeds so you can squeeze the flesh away

Hey Richard,
How are you. I am from Bangladesh. In my country we used to cultivate dragon fruits purple, pink rose and white varieties. First twos are lite sweet and the white is sour- sweet mixed. Now a days we developing yellow dragon from Thiland and got succeed. But we don't have the sugar dragon you mentioned in your previous video that test like honey.
If the variety comes it may more popular to our country people to building more cultivation of dragon fruits.
In dhaka city there are no rooftop cannot have a plant of dragon fruit. We tried to get the sugar dragon in Vietnam but failed.
Would you please help to give the sugar dragon variety not big just few cuttings or seedlings. I will like to develop it and make more plants to make popular this variety across my country.

I am unable to send them out of my country at the moment. Sorry
Is it possible to pollinate a Christmas cactus with dragonfruit pollen?
I haven't tried but I have heard its possible!
Hi Richard, I really love and am learning so much from your channel. I got some beautiful and delicious pink and yellow dragon fruits from the farmer's market. I had never seen these before. They were very soft and delicious. I planted the seeds as you instructed in your video. They started out great, but the cotyledons began to drop off one by one and then the seedlings died. I saw soil bugs crawling around in the soil, but read that they are good for the soil. Anyway, just to be on the safe side, I replanted what was left into some seed starting mix, about 20 seedlings. Now it has been about a week, and they are still dying. I have only about three left. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks
they are basically cactuses...maybe use cactus soil...

Hi! Many of my seedlings have been turning white and dying recently and I was wondering if you had any advice? Previously they were all doing great and growing large!
Too wet?
I am from Las Vegas. Do you have any recommendations in reference to the weather here when producing dragon fruit seeds
Hello, thank you for your valuable videos. I wish you success. I have a red dragon fruit, but it tastes very bad. Can I get a quality that has good taste and how do I get it? I am from Algeria. I want to plant a good variety in my garden for family consumption. Please answer my comment
I tried germinating seeds from half a dozen store bought fruits with zero success. Attempt #7 was yet another Ecuador Palora from my local Publix. I was short on containers, so I planted half the seeds and put the remainder in my refrigerator.
After two weeks I had no germination on the initially planted seeds. Not willing to admit defeat, I tried the refrigerated ones. Exact same containers and soil as the failed ones. I expected another failure, but in 5 days I had at least 50 seedlings sprout.
I know this is bad science due to such a small sample size. I just think it's interesting. I used the seed collection method from this channel on every fruit with no success. The only difference I induced on this batch was the refrigeration period. If someone that's dragon fruit smart has any ideas that would be great. Maybe I wasn't drying the seeds long enough on all the other attempts? I don't know.
Christmas update: I put seeds on the soil but didn't bury them, just left them on the surface. I now have a couple hundred Ecuador Palora's starting. Given current lumber prices, I'll be spending about $40k on trellises this spring.
Hi Richard I know ur busy nd not answer me it’s ok I sill watch ur videos but this Q is to all ! Someone tell me when do I start cutting the dragon tree branches? Or do I need to cut them ? I’m not gonna graft them to any mother plants or anything or do I need to? because they like growing fine in my cold London flat, it’s about 18inches with other branches growing constantly
Hi, what's the ideal temperature for germination?
Bringing out the “tabo” hehe
wow!!! super! thanks
Hello Richard
What is the good time of the year to grow seeds? How long, I can keep the seeds and they will grow. How do you separate the seeds from the fruit and preserve them before planting. I am in Texas and it is Fall here. Thanks in advance.
How long should the seedlings stay in these containers.
Can you use foliar sprays like heavy 16 foliar on neem oil on the plants. Of course not spraying the fruits
i seeded some about 1 1/ 2 years ago indoors. extremely slow growth nowhere even close to 12 inches high
Hi Richard's,
How long will it take Dragon to fruit from seeds...Thanks..
Thank you!
Hey Richard I want to buy a cutting of the yellow dragon fruit . It’s getting warmer here in Kansas please let me know also I want to ko now if that is self pollinating .
I have a lot of wonderful seedlings but I’m not sure what to do next. Do I just allow them to grow in a bunch until they get bigger, and then separate them?
