If you'd like to see an update on the dragon fruit plants, there's one included in this video here! :) ruclips.net/video/Xvuf-gjFKY4/видео.html Hope you enjoy
I know that these types of videos take forever to complete, however I love seeing the differences from when you start the seeds to showing how much progress they have made after months or in this case a year! Thank you for taking the time to track their progress, and I'm motivated to try this myself now.
Trying this tomorrow. I've been lucky enough to get ahold of golden mango and now have 2 seeds that sprouted...so exciting 💚 can't wait to try the dragonfruit.
Out of all your plants that you planted from seeds how many have gone on to fruit? Could you make a video update on all the plants you’ve grown from seed?
Thank you so much for this video. I've been trying to sprout dragon fruit seeds for a while now. And I have like 60 seeds in a cup with water, and most have sprouted. Yay
Already doing this, but just starting. Good to see the 1-year results, and I'd like to see a FOLLOW-UP to how you transplant this out and getting fruit! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much for sharing this amazing vedio. I am going to try to germinate them today. Bought 1 red dragon and 1 yellow dragon fruits today. Very excited and wish me luck. Thank you tons. From Houston, TX
I only just started germinating mine today I'm actually from Wanganui and love growing plants from seed anytime of the year hope mine grow I've been wanting to do this for a year now
I bought my seed online and I didn't get dragon fruit seeds. I like growing things knowing that they will fruit, and in today's world, I can't tell what's been messed with to the point that the seeds will grow but not produce fruit. We can argue who caused this, but let's not. I am going to try your method and see how this works. Great video dude, you've inspired me.
Thanks for making this video! I'll definitely try this so I can have rootstocks to graft my moon cacti. I've searched in a few stores and the rootstock alone was more expensive than a grafted moon cactus! I have a huge 7-8 years old moon cactus with a dozen of baby scions. I've successfully grafted 3, but I don't have any rootstocks left. I guess it's time to buy a dragon fruit!
I just use a spray bottle. Just until the soil is moist and they dry out pretty quickly I notice so I’ve been doing it everyday. Mine are about a month old now and so far they look good.
I’v started growing yellow, Ecuadorian Dragon fruit and some cinnamon persimmons from seed in Los Angeles. Just found your video and will give your method a try.
Hi I am trying your method as I didn't have much luck with putting them in soil I put them in the water under a grow light and in 48 hours they have started to sprout
It took my seeds for ever to sprout in water in a Petri dish. I finally got them to sprout but were so tiny I had to use reading glasses to get them into dirt. I’ve had them in dirt for a week and bought a grow light but I hear you say they aren’t in to bright lights. These tiny guys are maybe still a 1/4 to maybe a 1/2 inch. Is that normal? I’m thrilled to have any growing but I don’t do things like this so I’ll watch your videos and hopefully these guys will make it! Thanks for the help.
Just germinated some seeds the way i know but now im stuck lol do i let them grow a little more the way you germinated them or do i plant from here? Im scared I'll ruin then if i just pull them off paper towel. Is it ok to plant a little of the paper towel with it? Thank you for sharing your video
Do dragon fruit have to grow to full size before they will fruit or can you keep it pruned to a manageable size and still have them fruit? I wouldn’t have space in my house for a giant fully grown plant.
I don't know if I didn't remove the flesh from the seed, but I did the water method and the dirt method. The dirt method has 5 sprouted with the cactus coming through the middle and only 1 of the water method seed has produced a yellow root I guess. It has been about 3 weeks.
Hi ya, I was looking for some info when to transplant my dragon fruit seedlings and came across your channel. You have very interesting videos 👍🙌 I've sown the seeds straight into a container on propagating sand from Bunnings. It didn't take long for the seeds to germinate 😂 Thanks for the video, I will transplant them into a big pot, since it takes so long for them to grow to a desent size. Do you keep them warm in the winter? Cause I think people are growing them outside, here in Auckland. 🤔
I kept them in a sealed plastic container with soil and holes on lid and they grew. Now that they germinated should I remove the lid. I was creating a mini greenhouse
Mine sprouted within 10 days. Depends how warm it is. They also work well in soil too which I cover in this video here :) ruclips.net/video/Xvuf-gjFKY4/видео.html
Hey anyone out there have experience drying the seeds and planting later? I found a dragon fruit in October which wasn’t the right time to plant so I waited and now am trying some are in soil and I’m not sure if they sprouted or it’s just weeds. Any advice would be appreciated!!!
Hi Daniel, yes you can dry the seeds and plant later with dragonfruit. The fresher the better but they should last at least several months. Feel free to send me a pic of them over on Instagram or Facebook and I can help you ID them :)
+TheKiwiGrower Hey bro, not sure if these are true to type or not (I know that they can grow true to type)............But they look like the Hylocereus/Selenicereus megalanthus, the yellow dragonfruit species. Did you manage to buy a yellow dragonfruit fruit somewhere in NZ?
Cool - I've only ever seen the red one that has the white pulp in Christchurch. Yeah yellow ones would be great! I'm surprised the yellows are not imported into NZ - cause i've heard that they're one of the sweetest and most satisfying.
@@yamaha550xz They were just at New World supermarket. They have them there every once in a while. I'm not to sure about growing those ones though, due to the fact they may have been exposed to radiation, etc for "biosecurity", which cause genetic mutations. There are some good sellers online (eg: thailandplant.com) who may be able sell you dragonfruit seeds of many different species/varieties, along with the phytosanitary certificate which will help them clear NZ biosecurity. Email the seller to arrange it - I think phyto cost around $10-15. It's wise to get them sent with phytosanitary cert, because without it, NZ biosecurity may destroy them. Also they must be sent with full botanical names on seed packets and "seeds", or "seeds for sowing" must be written on the outside of the main package. Check MPI biosecurity index to make sure they're listed as "basic". Then check the MPI "import health standard" to see if it says anything specific in regards to importing the seeds. You can download the seeds for sowing IHS is from the mpi website. Best wishes!

This is how you end up with 500 dragonfruit plants. Ask me how I know.
how do you know

Toni Smith well he did say to ask how he knew...
Yes.... I currently have this same issue
But can't you just sell them?

I’ve never tasted dragon fruit but I bout two last night. Having this as a house plant would be really cool. I’m going to try it.
OMG HES ALIVE. Sorry I haven’t checked your channel in a while!

How did u transfer those fragile tiny seedlings to a pot? Want to try this. Great video thx. 😊
I had bought the plant. I was hoping to steam propagate it once it develop side steams

Nice bro! My gold dragonfruit seeds and gold kiwi seeds just hatched! Such a cool feeling🙏🏼🌿🪴
cool plant does it grow fast? I live in a cold climate but I can use grow lights
Yup they can go through stages of very quick growth

Jerusalem Artichokes tubers from the supermarket grow quickly into pretty baby sunflowers! lol 🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻
That’s cool might have to give it a try if I can find some :)
Thanks sir
What was that in the glass? Only water or any type of liquid fertiliser?
Thanks for the tips buddy

do you treat them like tomato seeds when you soak them ? thanks for sharing
Did you plant them all in the same pot? If so, how did you transplant them all to different pots?
Started seeds about a week ago, I'm doing the yellow variety.
awesome! good luck let me know how it goes :)
I need some of those seeds! 😆
@@tabitha7747 we could arrange this. I also now have cuttings..... Soooooo many cuttings.

My dragon fruit grew very big in 8 months but the botom is very weak and woboly and i have to suport them . How do you deal with this issue ?
I cut a slice of the fruit and put it into a pot with loose soil. It has little shoots coming up now.
That’s great well done!
I kept them in a sealed plastic container with soil and holes on lid and they grew. Now that they germinated should I remove the lid. I was creating a mini greenhouse
Thx for that I'm up for it
2:56 Whaaaatt??! You take it with your hands?!
Do we have to change the water in the cup daily?
Thank you for your guidance. Just wondering did those prickles hurt when you tipped the plant out the pot? I’ll let you know how mine go. Thanks again
The spines on dragon fruit are very soft like a brush until they are much older
0:40 How long did you leave the seeds in water before they started sprouting?
I think about 1 week
I am going to do it if my fruit being in the fridge is ok.
GENIUS!
Mine are yellow dragon fruit from Sam'sclub. Soaking now, we will see. Oh how long did you give them to sprout???

How do you prune them? it's been 4 years for mine and they are wild....
Hi, I'm just wondering if store bought dragon fruits grow true to type? if someone could reply that would be great!
My sprouts are not growing a bit since 2 months 😶the seeds sprouted and they stopped growing 😢 I kept them on windowsill as I don't have a balcony.
@2:56 AYYYYY ouch man! do these spines not hurt???
Do you still have your persimmon plants? :)
Hie. In wich zone do you live please?

I thought dragon fruits are steam propagation??

You live in the UK right? It grows well enough indoors?

I plant the seeds. They sprout and they die. What am I doing wrong?
Possibly not enough water and light. Although they're a cactus they do require a good amount of moisture, especially when young
How long did the seeds take to sprout in the water?
Not long only 5-7 days
@@TheKiwiGrower do I need to replace the water after a few days? Because it seems kind of difficult to do while the seeds are trying to sprout.
how can i used the seeds of the frozen dragon fruits?
