My best friend passed away 5 weeks ago. We played UO together religiously from 1999-2004. His funeral started with everyone walking in to this song. There was no better fitting tribute than this song. He'd have been so proud!
In a moment like this I can't help but to feel this weird certainty, a glimmer of hope behind the veil of sadness, that there is definitely a next place after this. And at some point you will randomly meet again your long lost friend or lover, thinking "Oh God, it's him... it's him..." I've felt like this about many of the important people in my life, especially after losing them - in one way or another. You just know deep inside your soul that this is the same person you shared many important journeys with, in our previous lives. It was a great thing and salute for your friend's last journey, what you did with the Ultima music. I hope you all the best and happiness in your future life. I think you will meet your dear friend again, after finishing this journey. Then you get to tell him what you did with the rest of your life without him, and he will share with you what he has been up to - while waiting for you to meet up again.
You people have no idea how much it means to me that every now and then one of you appears from the mist and reminds me that there is someone, somewhere who feels what I tried and try to convey with my music and playing. Thank you so much, and all the best for the 2024 - and the next 16 years o/
Didn't know you used to play UO, that's awesome. On another note; kinda funny to see an 11-year old comment from such a famous RUclipsr left with only a single like at the time I stumbled upon this.
I love Stones so much, and I've seen a lot of covers, mostly guitar. But this... this is what Stones is. Great job! Thank you so much for posting this rendition.
I think I somehow found this video 15 years ago, and ever since I return and listen to this masterpiece every now and then. Thank you so much for this.
27 years since my first encounter with Ultima IV. It was so meaningful for me, I really was transported to Britannia. Thank you so much for this, deeply appreciated.
Just checked some other, newer performances of ultima's 'Stones' on youtube... and still, after all these years, Widiar's remains the best... by far. Kal Lor!
I’m impressed the sharing link is still up after all these years. I still have the mp3 on my NAS since downloading it more than a decade ago. Great rendition of a powerful song to many.
Thank you for your kind words, mate - you and everyone else commenting this song. There is indeed something magical in this simple but beatiful song, as it touches so many of you - including myself. I rarely comment on comments left here, but I humbly and sincerely thank you all. Your words mean a world to me..
How did I miss that video!? Amazing! Can anyone explain me why this game is so mystical? I mean a game is obviously made of codes, and I understand that I like medieval times&FRP. But still, from Forest theme to Stones, is still drifting me away and reminding me good times. Happiness. I'm 34 now and I even opened some free shards. Even the GM/Dev side of the game is so great. Total masterpiece, thanks Lord British, lolo FitzOwen and all of us sharing this cult.
There is some nostalgy involved of course, but... during those times the resources (technical) were so limited, they used 100% (sometimes more, almost literally..) of what was available - the best they could. But it was a *requirement*, so that they could concentrate on something more relevant - which was the game itself. The story line, characters, lore, music, graphics, dialogue etc. Nowadays many games are copy paste tech demos with business #1, graphics #2 and fucked up social media communities ("guilds" as they call them) and hideous game economies right after. This is why nowadays the best games almost always come from indie studios, where there is passion that is not overtaken by greed and finances. (And let's not forget, gaming industry and movies are so big and daily routine nowadays, it takes immense amount of goodness to impress anyone anymore... sadly..)
+Steven Duncan Say no more, say no more... One of this nights when you hope for that blue glow to appear behind your window and that you could take a break from all this BS. We have Witcher 3 and all that, but somehow it's not quite the same. Maybe it's the age...blessed are the children, as they say.
its so nice to feel super nostalgic sometimes. it can bring so much sadness, yet so much happiness to remember. personally i dont have any conections to this game. just like the song. but i feel where you guys come from... i really do. i have my own stuff i feel nostalgic about. and i feel both sad and warmth while remebering those good old days.
Absolutely love the chord progression at 1:15! For my own rendition I use f major, g major, a minor (hold) for the second verse. Going to favourite this video so I can mix some of your chords with mine - thanks!
Thank you. Can I ask you how you came to know this piece? Extremely rare to encounter woman who knows this piece ... and even learned to play it. Amazing :) (Let me know if you upload your version to youtube!)
I heard this song played by a LOTRO player on a Lute last night and he told me to youtube the song. I wish I could give you more stars than 5!! Outstanding playing! This is one of the prettiest songs I have ever heard in my life:)
Should also say, this is an amazing piece, and improvised... kudos... you did an incredible job of this. Thanks much for the MP3 version too... my brother will love this too!
Still my Favorite MMO of all time. Still the game with most memories i ever had in a game. 14 years and so into the role while playing with my Bigger Brother back then. People realy got known ingame in this game.
Six years now and still my favourite stones version. I really miss my old Ultima Online days, especially if I look at the actual MMO market ... Yet again: Thanks for playing and sharing it!
@anotherplatypus I totally agree with you, this is the best version I've heard. Kind of wished I had this on a MP3-file so I could listen to it without the need for youtube... Great stuff!
Oh dear, I can't believe It's been so long since I last thought of this wonderful music / game. Brings me so many awesome memories. I wish I could go back to those times, as not a single MMO has filled me with such joyous feelings ever since. Thank you, Widiar. ^^
wow... i am stunned. these games were my life during childhood/adolescence, hah! your performance of this song is... just haunting, mesmerizing, entrancing. i can't emphasize enough how much i appreciate it.
Amazing.. Really thanks for this Piano Cover.. I played on UO for many years when I was a kid... Ultima Online remains the best MMORPG that i ever played in my life... Good memories... UO forever!
I get you. Meanwhile we have Shroud of the Avatar. You might wanna try it out if you didn't already. It doesn't hold the old UO charm but still very enjoyable and it's completely free and without P2W.
the greatest thing i have ever seen in my entire life. this is a +13 cover of vanquishing. and of exceptional quality. well done wouldnt describe how good this is.
Thank you. I found your video years ago, and I still regularly come back to it to remind me of my much younger days playing Ultima V. Your rendition is excellent. Kal Ort Por
The only bad thing about this is the fact I can't put your beautiful music on loop! Like what others have said, this is the best version of stones I've ever seen. Great job, I salute you! (MP3 MP3 MP3!!!)
My lord... That was definately the best original arragement of Stones I've ever heard. That really brings back memories. :) If you ever make an MP3 out of this, I would really love it.
You played this better than anyone I've ever heard. 5 stars. I always feel homo for saying it, but this song always gives me chills and I can't help but shed a tear for the memories and good times of UO. kudos
Ouch... the Ultima online role-play shard i used to "work" for as a GM/Scripter went down a couple month ago because all the player prefer the bling-bling of WoW and the other... It brings a tear to my earth to ear this song so beautifully played... So much memory...
I remember when my family bought Ultima 4 right when it came out--think I was in the 6th grade..? Ooooooh did that change everything....and when I read the lyrics to this song; that's where I get my imagination from still to this day. Greatest saga ever.

@@Widiar0 That`s the best comment I`ve read on youtube in the 17 years I`ve been on here.
Ah! This is a nice spot. Think I'll mark a rune stone here. Cheers!
9 years ago! Insane! But ULTIMA is still in my heart! ❤️
This was the first youtube video I ever clicked the like button on 16 years ago. Still love this.
You people have no idea how much it means to me that every now and then one of you appears from the mist and reminds me that there is someone, somewhere who feels what I tried and try to convey with my music and playing. Thank you so much, and all the best for the 2024 - and the next 16 years o/
This was one of the first videos I ever looked for on youtube, back in 2007
I love that I still get some random Stones -related comments here, after 17 years ago. I feel both old and like this was just a few weeks ago.
Wow, that brings back memories. After hearing this I installed Dosbox and am playing through the Ultima Underworld games again.
i know.. i miss that game
Didn't know you used to play UO, that's awesome.
On another note; kinda funny to see an 11-year old comment from such a famous RUclipsr left with only a single like at the time I stumbled upon this.
Thank you for this. Fifteen years later.

I am humbled, thank you fellow ultimatist™. And all the best for your future (gaming) years.

It's been 29 years since I first played Ultima VI. Thank you for reminding me why this was much, much more than a game
Can't believe this video alone is 15 years old, I'm transported back to 1999/2000 whenever I hear it

What if a red glow appears behind your window?! Is it a sign from Britannia? :)

Outstanding performance. I Wish i could play like that. This music brings me back to my childhood. Thanks a lot for the link.
Very well done. Better than mine, actually. I didn't have the sheet-music and I had to guess at it.
I wish I could go back in time.. I've played from 2000 until 2003 and it was the best MMOG time I've ever had.
Far and away the best 'Stones' on youtube. Thank you for taking the time and effort to share your interpretation with us!
