They probably would but the fact that in Japan it's common for stuff like that to be placed out shows how hospitable they are compared to other countries.
Love the videos! Just showed them to my mom over holiday and she was confused. "Wait? This is on RUclips? This seems like a travel channel show?" You've got another fan now! We easily watched 25% of your library in a week. I definitely plan on visiting some of the places you mention on my honeymoon. Keep up the great work! Thanks!
Great videos John, When I watch ONLY in JAPAN I get completely immersed. It's as if my room fades away and I get to visit Japan for a little while. You have a wholesome manner that makes it impossible to be distracted by an internal dialogue of judgment; it really allows me to subconsciously trust you with my attention.
These videos are always filmed and edited perfectly! I haven't been to Japan, but it's a dream of mine, so thank you John for showing us all the magic that the country has to offer.
I really can't understand how someone could dislike this video. This channel is simply the best I've seen on youtube and of much higher quality than a lot of tv shows nowadays...
What a great episode! Japan really does have it all. Volcanoes, desert, beaches, snowy mountains... a land of literally everything you can want or need. Another reason to love the country. Thanks, John. I can't wait to see what's next! :-)
A boy and his Radish.! what lovely video!!! heartwarming!! Mikan are sooo good... so delicate and delicious.... just like the winter potato in Tokyo Thanks again John!
It's so funny because last week I red an article about sakurajima and I was like 'I really want to go' and now you just uploaded a video about it ! I made me want to go even more !
John, thank you so much for all the hard work you put in to making your videos. I loved your other video with the hot sand bath. I appreciate your videos because you do share the culture, not just places to see... makes me fall in love with Japan even more. we couldn't have an honor system like that here in the states. The fruit would be gone minutes after the stand was put up.
I don't know if you are gonna see this comment John, but your videos helped made my trip during summer 2016 to Japan really enjoyable. From visiting Tokyo to Hiroshima, your videos help pinpoint my needs and made my experiences more deeper and meaningful. Also, how long did it take you to learn to speak Japanese? I am currently trying to self teach myself and hoping it would payoff the next time I travel to the land of the rising sun.
Haha! I remember your post on Instagram! Here it is! Planning and filming the next few episodes now. Off to Kansai -- and beyond! Happy New Year. -john
ONLY in JAPAN Hey John thanks to your videos I Got some friends from Dallas Texas enjoying Japan as we speak I'll probably be back Next year I hear Nagasaki is soo different and my wife and I want to visit some friends in Fukuoka and Okinawa お疲れ様でした
I've been watching your videos for a while now and this is only my second time leaving a comment. Excellent video, brother!! Makes me want to take a trip down there. My brother-in-law lives nearby so I might need to schedule a trip soon
I have been there as well, to Kagoshima and on the same ferry! Even in the Onsen, it's so hot!!! Like 40 degrees celsius, it takes some getting used to but it's an experience of a lifetime. It was raining ashes when I visited
I live in Kagoshima. Sakurajima is pretty impressive to look at during an eruption. Ash in the city... well that part sucks but it's usually only in summer when winds come our way. Sakurajima hasn't been an island for over 100 years though it's easy enough to say island. Cycling: The road from the ferry port around the south side can be quite busy. The road isn't wide and there are no sidewalks most of the way. I've cycled Sakurajima a few times. There are hills but people of average health should be fine.. Eruptions: the sign at the visitors centre actually showed 737 eruptions the previous year. Crazy thing is that we see eruptions all the time that apparently don't meet the requirements even though they are 500+ metres.
What a beautiful island. The lava path is gorgeous with it's black sands and boulders. Does sitting on the boulders leave your pants black too? ;-) Also, I love how the basket of mikans sit along the path as well. It's so nice to see that the honor system still exists in some parts of the world. How wonderfully old fashioned, in the very best sense. ❤
astroboy3507 You won't believer where I'm filming Tokyo Eye now!? ... Funabashi! Don't tell anyone yet. It'll air in mid to late February. Hitting the Sapporo Brewery there on Monday for the show :)
i was wondering if u can suggest some great places to stay what hotel or something like a bed n breakfast. Im planning on a trip later in the fall and this will be my fisrt time ever visiting Japan
I cannot stop laughing at the beginning when you explained what an active volcano is in DEEP MANLY VOICE X'D Also, im still so amazed at the honor system in Japan! The farmers just leaving the produce there like that. ONLY IN JAPAN indeed!
it seems like the perfect vacation spot, I really could use those baths. and even you came back with a delicious and nice companion Jaja. xoxo from Mexico
Ok, one last question here for ya (sorry for the inquisition). You said that island of Sakurajima itself has 4,500 residents. In the event of a major eruption, I'm assuming they have a well-planned evacuation in place... Would everyone board those ferries to the main land? How many people can one of those ferries hold (it looks pretty big). Thanks so much, John! :-)
FireCracker3240 after the 1914 eruption, the island became a peninsula so along with the ferry, there is a road leading away, just the opposite direction of the city. Back in that eruption, the residents knew it would erupt from the constant earthquakes so there were few deaths. 1914 was a big one! -John
FireCracker3240 yes, that is good, but believe it or not, there was one a few days AFTER I filmed this!! I was a few days too early to film it. I think there's some video of it on RUclips. FEBRUARY 5, 2016 I was here at the end of January 2015 to shoot this if I remember correctly!! Then went to the Sapporo Snow Festival. A lot of traveling last year!! -J
+ONLY in JAPAN That's unreal, you missed it by a few days! After reading this comment, I went and watched that video from February 2016 and my gosh, what incredible footage! I don't know if I ever knew that there could be lightning during a volcanic eruption. It was beautiful and scary all at the same time. I love the irony of how you went from location of a hot, active volcano to the snow festival. ;-) Do you imagine you'll do that much traveling in 2017?
I loved this! (I'm waiting for your next live stream so I'm watching older episodes). I have a passion for volcanoes. I'm studying Geology and Geophysics at the University of Hawaii.... a question I get from people pretty much daily is "what can you do with that outside of Hawaii?" Uh go to Japan for starters.🎌
I was once in Kagoshima at a time when Sakurajima was still spewing ashes..my entire body and hair fully covered with the ashes, had to look for a public bath to clean myself up
Any chance you'll be heading back to Hokkaido this year? The Otaru light festival is great (and obviously Yuki Matsuri as you've already shown). Plus there is also the Asahikawa Snow Festival at around the same time.
John, just for the fun of it, and to help me plan my August/September 2017 trip to Japan, I re-watched this video, and then jumped on Google Earth to scan the volcanic region you traveled. It was fun to watch your video THEN follow along the trail from the Sakurajima Ferry terminal all along the "lava trail" using Google Earth! I think I saw you on the trail! ;) I have three weeks in Japan; Traveling alone, backpacking - including a hopeful climb of Fuji-san (have you attempted this?). Sakurajima is a long way to the South, but your videos of the region around Kagoshima Prefecture have convinced me to travel to the area. As usual, thanks for the videos! Anata ni kansha shimasu!
'Only in Japan' a show can be made that you enjoy as much as this one. :)
This is like a mini-vacation.
wow that honor system, if only the rest of the world could be like that
Just because they have an honor system doesn't mean they don't get stolen once in a while.. Just like anywhere.
magzire I know, if you did that in America, getting robbed is inevitable
They probably would but the fact that in Japan it's common for stuff like that to be placed out shows how hospitable they are compared to other countries.
I have seen this sort of thing on roadsides in Australia for watermelons/Mangoes/Apples
I don't think you really understand rural japan, they don't get stolen, yes, not even once. But in big city is a different story.
Love the videos! Just showed them to my mom over holiday and she was confused.
"Wait? This is on RUclips? This seems like a travel channel show?"
You've got another fan now! We easily watched 25% of your library in a week. I definitely plan on visiting some of the places you mention on my honeymoon. Keep up the great work!
Thanks!
2:37 that's one of the reasons because i love Japan.... honesty
yep, those money cans would be stolen within an hour where I live..
GTR Best humans ever
Ikr if that was in London there would be no money in the jar. 😂😂😂😂😂 and everything gone. Really japanese people have faith in others.
@@dietcoke759 forget the money cans they would steal the produce and sell them in the bazaar where i live.
I love this channel because I love learning about the different thing in Japan.

Great videos John,

Austin Skoglund my pleasure and I truly hope you can make it here someday soon! -J
I really can't understand how someone could dislike this video. This channel is simply the best I've seen on youtube and of much higher quality than a lot of tv shows nowadays...
I agree with you.
Kind, Humble, Honest, Safe. I have always admired Japan 4 these overall qualities.
Good upload. Thank you & GOD bless
What a great episode! Japan really does have it all. Volcanoes, desert, beaches, snowy mountains... a land of literally everything you can want or need. Another reason to love the country. Thanks, John. I can't wait to see what's next! :-)

生まれ故郷なので、久しぶりに桜島を観れて感動しました!ありがとう!!
A boy and his Radish.! what lovely video!!! heartwarming!!
Mikan are sooo good... so delicate and delicious.... just like the winter potato in Tokyo
Thanks again John!
I know it was just a small part of this video but the honour system in Japan is incredible.
What great views!!!! And that foot bath?!?! yes please
So which country has no honour system ? I will avoid going there. Thank you.
I love how all Japan islands, villages and land remind of Pokémon regions.
I constantly thought about pokemon sapphire/emerald/ruby/ORAS
Eheh. I get that I love it too and on a second thought my comment is wrong. It is not Japan that reminds Pokémon but the other way around! :)
Excellent video! Top quality production right here. Keep em comin'!
Audial Asphyxiation I do my best. I wish I had met more people but a quiet trip this time. -J
i love the neatness in japan its so clean
Because they are educated decent people.
Another high quality video as usual John. I'll gladly sit thru an ad for you.
You would never see people leaving their produce just on the side of the street. Japan is so trusting and I appreciate that about the country
Agree totally !
Still one of the best channels on RUclips!!
I love these places with natural attractions
Its always a great day when Only in Japan uploads! =)
Man you need to post your videos more often. I love your videos!!! Great work

Is it worth spending 4 days in Kagoshima? I am planning a small trip in January and I am thinking of spending it there to chill.
Who the hell needs a vending machine when you have honesty, consideration to others and honor as your culture's main values?
6:24

Nice video john keep it up

I cannot stop laughing at the beginning when you explained what an active volcano is in DEEP MANLY VOICE X'D

Thanks for the information. That makes sense. I'm glad they haven't had a big eruption in over 100 years. Good to know big eruptions are not common.

Jimmyf27 I will certainly do a another episode in Hokkaido. In not this winter def next one! It's too amazing to me to stay in boring Tokyo :p
I'm from Kagoshima. Ferry's Udon is very good, isn't it?
If that radish had a face it would be like the movie Castaway, WILSSONNNN!
Oh wow, the giant diakon plush in the store looked like a pachimari from Overwatch. Anyways another great video Daub-san
John, do a video on Touge racing 👍👍
