By simply "reporting", letting your experience tell the story, you are indirectly helping the economy and future of these lines. From the lack of visible passengers, one would assume they could really use the fares generated by passengers. With such service that these ferries provide, their attraction is immediately recognized. The baths alone, where else can you get those? And on a ferry of all places, let alone a cruise ship in the west? Just by passing on your experience, you encourage visitors to look for alternatives to travel in and around Japan. IF, I ever get over there, a relaxing trip by ferry, from one end of the country to the other, will be an experience I will be planning for. Thanks for sharing. Also appreciate the time to translate to English, you honor us by doing so.
I agree, if I were in need of this type of travel and I was on the fence about it or was deciding between this or something else, this video would make my mind up for me.
in my experience these ferries main purpose is for people traveling with their cars so they often look devoid of people, but car storage is pretty full. Especially the ferry that goes to different islands. I will say these ferries are also used by people who dislike flying, or whole family traveling with car. A lot less stressful and you can bring a lot more stuff. Really makes it easier that way as you can drive off the boat, and most of these ferry stops are slightly out of city center unlike train stations, so if you are traveling like he was, you will have to take the bus to get to your final destination.
I too wondered how they still operate with so few passengers, then I remembered there's covid and also Japanese summer is usually hot and too humid to travel...maybe there's another reason too?
Yes, I think it is mostly due to covid situation. You know these are mainly targeted for the elderly. And they are ordered to stay put, cause they are vulnerable. And the first covid situation in Japan happened in a ferry, so it didnt help either. I hope they recover once this is over. I will try myself too, a trip to southern islands, would be nice !

I'm so impressed that the dock crew would wave farewell to the ferry and its passengers. It's such a lovely sign of respect! On a different note, those bentos had really BIG servings of rice! Thanks for another great video!

The ferry trip seems affordable - from bus fare to the cost of the ferry, meals and snacks and bath/shower! I can't wait to visit Japan again!!!! I ❤ Japan. Please post more videos. Much appreciation from California, USA 🇺🇸
The price compares favorably to a train and a room in a good hotel, and you had more to see and do. This is the better choice for someone who isn't in a hurry.
I’m very envious of all the wonderful ferries you get to travel on in Japan. You really make me want to be traveling anywhere and every where. Thank you for sharing.
If I lived in Japan I'd be taking one of those every couple of weeks, leave Friday night, explore the town at the other end, overnight, then ferry back
Coming home after a hard day at work, putting on comfortable clothes, a nice relaxing drink while watching your videos eats away the stress of the day. So calming, thank you ^^

IBEX is seemingly very cheap.
Wow imagine doing that just to make a stranger happy. It warms my heart, the kindness that some still possess. Sucks to live in a place where most only care about themselves.
It is a wonderful japanese tradition to waive and to bow a ship or aircraft farewell. I love it! Every time when I left Japan and when I looked outside the aircraft window and saw the ground staff waiving and bowing farewell, it always gave me a feeling of a safe flight back home.
Thanks for the clip. Traveling by sea has always been the traditional and better way of moving around in Japan, if you're not in a rush that is. Flying domestically is kinda scary given the cramped flights they use, and driving is fun only if you have plenty of patience along narrow roads. Shinkansen works too, can be "luxurious" but don't eat anything smelly or yak loudly onboard. Personally I'd just use the ferry like the one above, you get to see how beautiful Japan is, and you get to sleep and shower too! 楽しいよ!
I wish transportation in the states was this luxurious. Amtrak is okay but nothing like this. The Japanese know how to travel. Granted when traveling around an Island ferries make sense. Also have to remember that long distance car traveling is an uniquely american thing.

Thanks for the great review. The ferry looks really nice and spacious. The views in the dining room great too. I look forward to your video on the sights of Kagoshima.
I wish I knew about this sooner! Kagoshima is one of my favorite places to visit (and formerly live) in Japan. Even if you got off at Shibushi, a couple of hours away. ;) For anyone else looking to visit Kagoshima prefecture, I would recommend Kagoshima proper (of course), Kanoya, and Ibusuki! I would go north to Miyakonojo after, and then northeast to Miyazaki.
The staff were very friendly in the way to make you feel like that, the ferry had a wonderful interior and although there was only bento the food was good and you got a good amount of rice for the cost of the meal, I almost knew you was going back to the ice cream vending machine, thank you for sharing your journey
I am harkened back to the year I backpacked around Europe. My husband and I did that right after grad school and we took two ferries: one from Poland to Denmark and one from Greece to Thira (a Greek island also known as Santorini). This was a while ago (early 90's) but they were nothing like any of these I'm seeing on this channel! These are gorgeous and so clean, just lovely. Not sure how they are today, but let's just say back then, the ferries I rode were less than stellar, to say the least. Thanks for these.

I'm american and came across your videos in my recommendations and I find them fascinating. The food looks so good, and I appreciate that you include the ship's name. Satsuma is a gorgeous ferry, and when the people waved and bowed.. That was beautiful 💙
I couldn’t sleep at night and came to this video. It is so calming and 😋 watching your bento 🍱. Sunset view is awesome indeed. Thank you for the little details about the bowing staff. It’s so delightful. I can go to sleep now. 🙇♀️
I have to say the friendliness of the Japanese workers (at all levels) is one of the many things that I appreciate when I'm in Japan (before coVid usually once or twice a year). It bothers me terribly when some entitled westerner or chinese is yelling at grocery, coffee, or department store employee. They do this because in these areas some workers are looked down on and are allowed to be treated as inferiors with such behavior (in U.S. "the customer is always right" leads to this). I find in Japan all work is valued as long as it is done well and courteously. The waving ship company workers is a manifestation of this attitude.
Hey Solo traveler! Not only are your videos informative and an amazing kind of slow-tv, you can know you've helped one person relax and sleep easier. I'm dealing with mild anxiety due to personal issues, but your videos have helped me relax, and get on my day a bit. So thank you for that. ❤️
When the workers on the dock waved, I thought that was so sweet… but when they bowed, I was so touched by that! 💟

@@jamilajulie5717 Even after they bowed, several of them continued to wave! 💟💟💟
