metal gear solid holds a very warm place in my heart. one of my family members would play the games a lot, and since i was young (mgs4 came out when i was 2) i usually watched instead of playing them. i was on and off with the series - i'll play it from time to time still, but when i saw solid snake in fortnite, i just had to replay the games lol. these games are still really good despite their age, and the story of the series is my favourite out of every game franchise i know
Games makes One more emotionally invested that movies and theatres can do. Soap opera series is another beast all together. The most i have cried was the ending sequense of The Shadow of Tombraider. Three times before it calmed down. It is touching. To follow caracter trough their stories. It is shared experience in a way. Like being Oneself Aware
I just started playing Metal Gear Rising and wanted to learn more about the franchise and started with this since this is the other metal gear game I played a little bit what a wonderful way to explain the story not overly complicated you put a lot of personal touches and you obviously love this franchise turned on the bell and subscribe so I don't miss another video
I've been playing all the metal gear games for the first time for the last couple weeks, and I spent DAYS trying to get this game to work on a ps3 emulator and finally gave up. I was really bummed that I'd have to watch it instead, but this video was a great middle ground between watching all the cutscenes without context and getting some much needed explanation. Thank you for such a great video!
there are guides and stuff for recent breakthroughs in ps3 emulation specifically in regards to emulating MGS4. If your hardware is up to the task, it CAN be done, please don't give up; it's worth it. If all else fails, just pray the port that is inevitably finally coming in the Master Collection volume 2 is not butchered beyond salvation.
Thank you for this story breakdown. 4 came out at a changing point in my life, so I never got to play it as much as 1-3. And after watching some videos about the series, I realized that it had been *ages* since I played this, partly because it never escaped PS3 exclusivity. Given what a monumental undertaking, even understanding so much about the storyline of 4. Making this video must have taken a lot of effort, but you nailed it. It also seems ironic now that this game is probably the main reason Kojima felt like ‘long cutscenes’ were overkill, and opted for dozens of audio tapes in MGSV instead.

I played when I graduated high school too! After mgs1 this is my second favorite mgs game. This one certainly left the greatest impression on me after completing it and having the series end at that point was such a bitter sweet experience, but it was incredible non the less.
That’s awesome that you can interact with the wolves like you could in mgs 1. The heart thing is an Easter egg ! And also of course it was Johnny. The guys outside the prison cell in every mgs game are named Johnny 😂 in metal gear 3 he says “my dads a Johnny, my brothers a Johnny, and I’m a Johnny”

Marry me, -Johnny "Akiba". MG has long been my favorite franchise. And I play Snake Eater, and G.O.T.P. every few years. What exquisite attention to detail you were able to condense into under an hour. The solidus clone/liquid arm can quickly get very confusing and leave you lost. I had to beat the game like 6x to understand the whole plot. It's funny a lot of thing happening today, Kojima predicted through his games in a round about way. 11/10 video👌

It’s also why the battle droids from Star Wars and terminators are functionally stupid

Shuddup I'm not crying YOU"RE CRYING! In all honesty. This was the first game I ever pre-ordered. I was super mad that GameStop didn't do a midnight release so I had to wait until they opened the morning. I got there to beat the rush and I was the ONLY person there. I have never been more ashamed of my town.
I didn't know if I wanted to get XBOX 360 or PS3, so I figured I'd get whatever handled Kingdom Hearts 3 better. I ended up going with XBOX 360 because of Dead Space, and there hasn't been a remake of MGS4 yet, so I didn't really know what happened until now, so thanks;)
I love the animated codec calls. I wish there were other MGS games that had it. Something about it makes it way better to listen to. Different atmosphere knowing ur boss is in some comfy office while you're in clandestine war operations is unique....ok big gripe i have here... If the Patriots were born during the Cold war how is it in metal gear solid 2 that oticon says the Patriots have been dead for over a hundred years... I know each game was written as they were made and they pretty much thought that each game they made was going to be the last but that still seems like a very large inconsistency or am I missing something??

The Patriots as an American entity did not exist until 1970, prior to that, they were the philosophers and were comprised of three countries (USA, Russia & China) The Patriots were “born” during the Cold War, but the founding members responsible for its eventual existence did in indeed die long before, and America had its own, singular entity - as we saw in MSG3, the 3 countries previously mentioned were fighting for control of the legacy. As far as anyone during the events of MSG2 were concerned, The Patriots had always been in charge.

At some point I turned into an exclusive PC Gamer so I never got to play this MGS. I watched a full playthrough of MGS4 to at least catch up on the story, my main disapointment was how uninspired an boring the B&B Squad was compared to the charismatic villians we had to fight in 1 and 3. Otherwise epic game.

The truth about every metal gear solid facts .. snake and radien In ever metal gear where puppets of the patriots every game. Big boss told snake at the end .you don't need to be a puppet no more also. But it's common sense especially with Raidens big shell scene. . You can tell the entire radien game. That he was on the wrong team
MGS4 may be a really flawed game (compared to the rest of the main games) but it was great conclusion to the "Solid era" (MGS 3 and 5 being the "Big Boss era"). It's hard to appreciate the game if the player hasn't done MGS123 beforehand because of the many references to the previous games. And I can appreciate MGR:R a bit more because it's an alternative sequel to MGS4
MGS4 was my first game I ever played in the series (well, besides the original Metal Gear for Nintendo way back. I love this game, and it'll always be in my top 20 all time favorite games. After falling in love with MGS4 I went back to play 1, 2 and 3 and it felt like I was playing a prequel. You know how a prequel to a movie comes out and you're like, oh I know where this is going? That's what it was like for me. It was really cool!
My only problem with MGS4 is how we are told that Snake has 6 months of life. that was very cruel from Kojima. Snake is a beloved character. That adds to his heroism but DAMMM! I guess we never knew how things end up for him in those 6 months.

I watched a full playthrough of MGS4 to at least catch up on the story, my main disapointment was how uninspired an boring the B&B Squad was compared to the charismatic villians we had to fight in 1 and 3. Otherwise epic game.
mga4 gets a lot of hate i feel. but was always a banger to me tho. ii acc love the long custscenes. POST EDIT just atsarted a new file haven't played in years. goood times

MGS4 may be a really flawed game (compared to the rest of the main games) but it was great conclusion to the "Solid era" (MGS 3 and 5 being the "Big Boss era").
It's hard to appreciate the game if the player hasn't done MGS123 beforehand because of the many references to the previous games.
And I can appreciate MGR:R a bit more because it's an alternative sequel to MGS4
Honestly I don’t see it as really flawed comparatively. Gameplay was a blast, fan service throughout, nostalgia, sign me up haha
MGS4 was my first game I ever played in the series (well, besides the original Metal Gear for Nintendo way back. I love this game, and it'll always be in my top 20 all time favorite games. After falling in love with MGS4 I went back to play 1, 2 and 3 and it felt like I was playing a prequel. You know how a prequel to a movie comes out and you're like, oh I know where this is going? That's what it was like for me. It was really cool!

My only problem with MGS4 is how we are told that Snake has 6 months of life. that was very cruel from Kojima. Snake is a beloved character. That adds to his heroism but DAMMM! I guess we never knew how things end up for him in those 6 months.
