  • A first flight in the Big Radials Grumman Goose in Microsoft Flight Simulator - taking off from Lampson Field and landing at Konocti Vista. Great fun, wonderfully modelled, and ON OFFER in the marketplace at the moment :)

I flew in the actual aircraft as a passenger on the West Coast of Canada and Alaska. I sat as a passenger in the co-pilot seat. I recall the pilot requesting that I crank the wheels up position. I recall landing in Heider BC right on the US/CANADIAN border . Very cold and dry in winter. I am now the proud owner on the model in MSFS 2004. Hoping to pick the throttles from the Factory for the Honeycomb system. It feels like the real thing incredible.

Agreed, it's a lovely aircraft. Btw, I believe that the lights you put on was the IFF (identify friend or for) that they used. The light switches are under the co-pilot's yoke. Also, being from Sweden, I love the fact that you also get the TP-81 with skies. The Swedish airforce got that one from Norway. But it originated from the lend-lease program between the USA and Great Britain. After serving in the RAF it was returned to the US-navy. From there it got to Norway as a civilian registered aircraft. Then sold to the Swedish air force who flew it from 1951 to 1962 as “TP-81” (Transport Plane type 81). It was flown as an air-transport and ambulance in the northern parts of Sweden. It was he last air ambulance in SAF service. It crashed during take-off on April 5, 1962. Fun fact. With the skies on you can't retract the undercarriage. With skies there is also a speed restriction of max 130 knots.

First third party plane I bought, love it as it really made me much more aware of manifold pressure and mixture positioning as early flights ended in engine fires.

What a brilliant little boat. I was going to question why someone wouldn't just fly the free one (I do ) but now I see I have to save up a couple of dollars for sure!
Thanks for the review, would have missed this one.

One of my favourites. The a3a is indeed a Sperry, and it can't be stressed enough that it is a gyropilot not an autopilot - for everyone's sanity it has a course hold function which can also follow a VOR radial or gps course but that's just a sim thing, as designed it just holds compass heading and pitch. There's no altitude hold, the gyropilot can get the vertical speed down to *almost* nothing and once it arrives at the height you want it's up to you and the gyropilot pitch trim to keep it there. The thing that really messed with my head when I was learning it was that to get the gyropilot to fly more or less level the gyro pitch is not even close to centred. It's an extremely manual 'autopilot' and I love it.
ps I seem to recall the anchor holds you in place quite nicely if you don't have a couple of Pratt and Whitney's finest rumbling away pulling you forwards :)

Yes, what a beautifully modeled plane. I think we got a similar plane with last update. Haven't flown it yet but I doubt it has this kind of detail and features. Great video. Thank you..

The anchor use to stop the plane from floating forward as it should. Maybe it got broken with the new Sim update. Great plane. Love how the plane handles.

The real Goose doesn't have water rudder, but developers added invisible water rudder called "Water Helper" to this plane. There is a switch for it in a hidden floor compartment.

One of the best planes in the sim I agree! When you started from cold start there is some thing about those radials that excite me. You didn’t show the open windows during the flight which really increases the sound. And one of the nice functions was the chair and the fishing pole up on top that you can deploy with the fishing line into the water as well as the anchor.

    • @Beery1962
      @Beery1962 Год назад

The increased sound seems to have disappeared with the latest patch.

@@Beery1962 I just tried it tonight and the sounds are as they were which is in my opinion some of the best sound on any engine through idle and full power. Sorry you don’t have access, I don’t know what changed but my system is still yielding the nice sounds. Good luck

I had forgotten about this plane. I believe It got released toward the beginning of MSFS and I think the water physics was not great at that point. I might have to give it another look

This is a great aircraft in the sim, the looks and sound's are great apart from one thing, when landing on dry land their appears to be no sound at all. When you consider the size and weight of this machine, I'm sure it wouldn't land silently. We have no feedback in the sim when landing apart from sound. If big radials were to add a thump on landing I would fly this all the time. Great review. Gary.

I like it, I'm thinking on getting it now that it is on sale.
Obviously this one is more complete, have more features, but flight model wise, how does it compare with the recent one given by Microsoft?

I have this plane but it's too much of a machine for a noob like me, i'd love to know your opinion on the Searey some day. It's a light boatplane that i haven't been able to stop using since i got it, it's just so easy and pleasant to fly, it's a fantastic viewing platform with the cockpit doors open, a real summer plane with an impressive rate of climb when needed. I am somewhat curious as to how realistic it is though, since it seems to be good at everything (except flat-out speed), and my gut instinct is it may be overpowered compared to the real thing. I don't know if you take requests lol, but i have my fingers crossed because i'd love an expert to take a look.

I've tried like 20+ take offs with this plane, all the time losing control at speed more then 50 knots, can't hold it in a straight line with my rudder (vertical axis on my joystick, need to twist it right/left)... all the time i get off the runway... (tried locked/unlocked back wheel) any suggestions?

I've had mine for awile now. I bought it through Orbix since it was not on marketplace at that time, and even though I have the latest update, it simply will not work anymore. The engine dies on the first try, works when you re start it, and then the autopilot which used to work great, now does next to nothing, I can't even fly by heading anymore, which used to work as well.
