What a beautiful plane, it's exactly what you would expect a Bugatti aeroplane to look like. Like all the best works of art it should probably be admired from a respectful distance.
Often wondered why there isnt more experimental/drawing board planes in fs2020. Lots of planes never saw the light of day, would be great to give them a go.

Actually there has been a modern replica rebuild (I contributed a bit to the Kickstarter campaign to get that off the ground). Unfortunately on one of the first test flights it seems to have crashed..

I too had backed Scotty Wilson's project through Kickstarter - and had the pleasure of meeting him and seeing the reproduction aircraft in build, in Tulsa at the end of 2013. A total gentleman - i think i spent the best part of a day with him in the hangar. His aircraft was a work of art, and was beautifully built. He had a very professional, considered and meticulous attitude. It's a long time since i read the final accident report, but if i recall correctly the root cause of the accident was likely down to a loss of thrust from one of the two powertrains, possibly caused by a slipping clutch. The repro-airframe was using a pair of Hayabusa engines, and i think it was one of the only areas where one could have said a necessary compromise had to be made. (No original Bugatti engines available or affordable and the need for the best power to weight in a package that would fit - from what i understood i'm not sure it would have been able to utilise them with a direct drive.) A sad loss - building it and flying it had been Scotty's dream and passion - 'La rêve bleu'...

Hehe. Coffin. Good analogy since the only one that actually flew did indeed kill it's pilot a few years back. She certainly is a beauty though, and an exception to the idea that "if it looks good, it'll fly good".

Must not be easy to come up for a realistic flight model for this one.
I read somewhere that the pilot was scared to fly it after the second flight but went ahead and flew the third flight anyways, w led to his unfortunate demise. Hats off to the very brave airman who dared to fly it.

Thanks for the Demo, indeed an interesting plane! What I would like to know is - where the propeller shaft is. Diverted under the cockpit floor perhaps?
Yeah i thought the same. Maybe gear driven and under the cockpit?
Shafts (one per engine) are located both sides of the pilot seat, under the red covers, in the cockpit. They join a gearbox in fron of the cockpit, just behind the propellers.

Very cool plane, but that audio looping at higher RPM is awful for such a highly priced addon. Hope they fix that.
Just bought it and hoping they fixed that awful engine sound loop.
Also lose the horrible cockpit reflections which look BAD in every plane I have ever flown in MSFS.
I always loved oddballs and one ofs and a challenge so this is now unflown and in my hanger.
Seen the real one in EAA museum many times, my thoughts even before the Scotty Wilson replica build that crashed was better to let some sleeping dogs lie.
Looks like a wide wing for the mass of all that engine but the tail just seems too close to be able to provide much stability at slower speeds. Probably have to come in fast on approach to maintain control authority.

Great video. I was interested in this as the 100 is a fascinating aircraft, however the flight model on this seems questionable (esp stall and climb performance).
I'd love to see another video of the realistic version when it comes.
(Btw it has contra-rotating props so you there should be no torque effects to worry about)
I wonder what the slipstream effect is like with contra-rotating propellers though - surely they must cause turbulence over the airframe.
@@jonbeckett The rear prop makes a lot of noise as it goes through the choppy air but I don't think it badly effects handling. The benefits of zero torque probably outweigh any disadvantages.
It was popular on the 2000+hp "super prop" fighters of late ww2, so I'd guess any effect on handling can't be too bad.
Hope to see stuff like the Supermarine S.6 in the future!
How far have you managed to get in the bugatti? I can only seem to get an hours range or about 300nm when the manual states it should be able to hit twice that

Wood was a common choice of material for aircrafts in those days.
Yep - metal didn't see wide use until the war really. The need to make wings thinner was one of the primary factors, as far as I understand.

What a beautiful looking design except for the poor view in front while in the cockpit.
A reproduction did fly...although it killed its pilot on its 3rd flight in 2016.
