- Recently Nissan revealed the 2024 Nismo Z so today we're taking a deep dive into the 2023 Nissan Z, the model on which it was built! Of course the only way to properly do that is to drive a 1974 RB-swapped 260Z in the same day. This particular Z is a 2023 Performance 6MT in Ikazuchi Yellow. As Tested: $61,543 CAD (~$52,000 USD) Enjoy!

This video is great timing, I have been watching a lot of reviews on the Nissan Z at the moment, and especially with the reviews of the Nismo version now doing the rounds on RUclips. Was curious to hear your perspective on the Z. Also nice to have that comparison between the old school and new school. I like most things about the new Z, but I believe they should adopt the look of the grill from the new Nismo edition on all the Z editions. Great video as always.
Thanks! Nismo looks great, but no manual trans is going to turn off a huge portion of the audience
@@RoadsUntraveled Agreed
I watched a video the other day, stop tech do a kit for that era of Z cars which from all accounts is insane. What a beautiful 260.
Interior quality, or lack-their-of, is a real problem for this product. This isn't discussed enough.
That S30 is so SICK! Jonathan, you're a lucky dude!
As for the new Nissan Z, right off the bat I don't like the aesthetics. It's not for me hehe. But I'm glad Nissan made it a fun sports car. You look like you had a blast driving it Marcus LoL.
Z car needs better cooling system.
The yellow one at Penticton Kia is the auto trans. Eye catcher for sure while sitting there next to a silver Supra, and similar price point too.
Not a tall person car though.😂
The BMW takes this thing's lunch money, lol.
I hope you’ll get a chance to review a manual brz/gr86 soon!
At least its not a 370z swapped with a VR30
[The A90 Supra is more durable and reliable then the Nissan 370.5 Z
The VG30 sounded killer in the z32, i know its an oldschool design but a reimagining of that engine with an aluminum block could have been really awesome. Sounded great and could make even more power than the vr30
I need to know what that song in the beginning is, it tickled my brain just right.
Also the performance of these cars and the markup just absolutely killed any will power I had to want to get one. It was so sad to see them being marked up so high and virtually making them impossible to get, I've literally only seen one in person, and in the city I'm in, that shouldnt be the case.
Nice review! You didn't really mention anything about how the headlights are absolutely hideous, that's the reason I won't buy it 🥴
I love the styling (full disclosure: former 240Z owner here) and if I was in the market for a new "toy", this would top the list. However, modern cars with their over-reliance on technology just don't appeal.... and big screens have no place in a driver's car. The new Mustang's interior is ruined by Ford's crude installation of tablets instead of a proper gauge cluster.
the mustangs interior is improved in every way and big screens can obviously have a place in a drivers car lol unless you're 90 years old
Why did they go backwards? We went from a 3.5L VQ DE that started out at 6600rpm and moved onto the HR and VHR that were able to spin up to 7500rpm and now we're back to 7000rpm on this 3L VR30. Make it rev to 8000rpm at least. It's a smaller displacement than the VQ37 and yet can't rev higher than the motor it replaces? That 7000rpm redline sucks. I bet this thing runs out of steam at 6k also where it makes peak hp like 95% of modern turbocharged cars.
Good review and I 100% agree. The Z32 was the last Z I had and the new Z feels so nostalgic. Can't wait to get an exhaust on it though. Sounds like a damn vacuum cleaner :/
I had a z32 and a z34 and its kind of cool how this is basically those two cars combines. I know they said the 240 influenced it alot, but its definitely more z32/z34
Good luck
If you want more sound and cracks just go and buy an aftermarket exhaust
What made you go Tomei instead of OS Giken? Why 2 way and not 1.5?
You should have a factory torsen LSD since you have a S2 SZ-R.
I'm gonna grab the os giken 1.5 way once I get back from deployment.
Wasting your time asking, this guy does not reply
It's tough to compare a modify z with a modern one, just my opinion. At times a modified car will always be better than a stock car just give credit that Nissan did something pretty good it just sad that the price is not that good
The fact i got a 370z with the performance package brand new in 2018 for 36k (canadian)... and now its double that price and largely the same car... nissan is making some coin on this
MCM S30 RB26 240z is the best s30 240z on the Internet
7:18 Z31 is the first Z to have V6 not Z32...
It's true! Z31, however, also had an RB20 inline 6, so my statement is correct. Z32 and onwards were all V6s.
Damn those arms look real nice
I am curious how this car will age and the NISMO Z has some nice tweaks
tbh the only thing I worry about is the engine. since we've seen this engine in the q50, it trends to be less reliable. also it comes with an open diff for some reason (Z).
Out side those 2 things it seems like a really nice car.
The performance trim comes with a mechanical lsd. No more viscous
@@SinGin007 why does a sports car entry level have an open diff?
I personally think they nailed it, but I’m a bit biased 😉
I love my Z.
Haha yeah I get it. I've never owned a Z but... I think they nailed it too, just sucks the exhaust/noise regulations with the 6MT cars. That, and some of the infotainment. I'd love to drive the NISMO and see if it's a bit more precise.
@@RoadsUntraveled I’m sure the NISMO will be the Z car that checks all the boxes. Except the weight part lol.
350 Z is the best
So in conclusion just buy a new Supra with an in-line 6 that sounds great…..
Lol the Z induction sound is leagues better than the Supra! The sound inside the Supra is like a video game from the early nineties, it’s awful 🤮 I totally agree however that the supra’s exhaust is way better 👍
Nismo Z , a different grill and a whopping “20 extra HP “ 😢😮😮😮😮.
I'd recommend modifying the thumbnail to say "They only made one (BIG) mistake". As it reads now, it comes across as "this car is just one big mistake" aka "this thing is just one big pile of shit". And it seems very clear that's not what you mean
As a former multiple Z owner..Im completely disappointed with this 400z. Headlights are awfull, has the body of a BRZ and it revs lower than a 370z. Cant stand the fake chrome sword also.
Its not a 400Z ... you being a former Z owner should know better, sadly not
The “new” Z is a 2003 chassis carrying a 2014 drivetrain with a copy and paste interior from 2009. Everything about that car screams begrudging and unenthusiastic like Nissan was forced to release it and they did it as cheaply as possible via parts bin reuse. I have seen comparisons against its competition and it had not won one. The new Supra might be a BMW but it is a bona fide performance car that can hold its own against other cars. Anyone who buys the Nissan over the Supra, M2, or RS3 is an absolute fool because the extra money for those cars buy a much better car.
The “new” Z is a terribly executed profoundly disappointing car.
Transgender Supra is a BMW Z4 with an M240i engine ... so 🤷🏽♂️
I honestly feel visually they took a step in the wrong direction. I genuinely don't like the look of it at all. It's stuck between eras in style.
I have to disagree.
@@xraider927 that's okay, good for you
@@xraider927it does look weird and cheap in person .they just tacked on bits from different zs on a 370z.
@@joshlamar1990 not all of them will react to that in person. And The Z isn't the only one to tacked on bits with the previous generations of the same model.
@@xraider927 who cares nobody is buying this car it’s overpriced. And not a smart buy.don’t even see them on the roads
So you just gonna ignore the Datsun 510 Sss the Nissan sentra the nissan Primera and the Nissan pulsar not to mention cars like the nissan C33 Laurel, and so meny other great Datsun/Nissan...shame on you budy...
