I would buy the Z over the Supra, seems a better option for those looking for a GT vehicle. In my 40s and not looking to race in a track often, so this seems the better option for me. I was a fan of the old Supra and the 300z, this also feels closer to those models.

If you're ever in the area and have time for a longer loop, the road through Pine / Deckers / Woodland Park runs parallel and is also really good.

Ben, I have been interested in buying a C8, but I have always been bothered by the fact that you never see ten year old Corvettes on the road as the engines disintegrate. Coupled with the $10K dealer markups, I have given up, period, never again. But I stumbled across your VIDEO AND WOW! I had a 1984 280ZX 2+2 and this brings back the memories. Your REVIEW is UNIQUE because you know the Z's prior foibles, and you compare & contrast them from wisdom. Nobody else! Only you! You are FANTASTIC!

Maintenance is changing your oil, not replacing plastics and gaskets every 40k. Plus, the labor expense is what keeps most people from doing the “maintenance” required to keep a BMW running correctly. Again, I’ve owned 3 and always kept up on the maintenance. I’d say my wife and I had spent more that $7k each in repairs and maintenance over the last two years of ownership of an X5 and X3, both of which had under 90k. I have friends that have owned them and it the same thing. Look, they’re great driving vehicles, but they become either trash or money pits. Maybe I’m wrong and these Supras will be collectors some day. Or, they’ll be collectors, but like the old M5. What a marvel of engineering.

FYI- This car is built on the same platform as the 370z, which is NOT the same as the 350z. 350z Z33 platform was built on the 1st generation FM platform. Z34 and RZ34 are built on the 2nd gen FM platform. 350z has a longer wheelbase than the 370z and new Z, which share the same wheelbase.

And I didn't buy the Z, I'll tell you that much. And... I didn't buy the Supra either because it too had flaws, not as fatal as the Z, but still bad enough. Had to buy a freaking Camaro 2SS 1LE instead. It beats up the Supra on the track, it beats up the Z cruising. Better manual transmission, and sounds great under load. And as a bonus, throw my booster seat in back for my son to ride in and bond with on cruises. It doesn't look as good as the Z, but it's not terrible looking like some of the Supra's parts. A shame people slept on the SS 1LE.

My thoughts are simple. It's a Japanese sports car, that is actually Japanese. Simple as that. I love the Z because it's Japanese and dislike the new pretend Supra because it's just a badged Z4 M Couple 2nd Gen. Toyota promised us sushi and instead gave us bratwurst. Nissan promised sushi and gave us sushi. Literally the only thing I have sort of a gripe for Nissan is that there isn't a smaller engine option for those of us who don't want 400 bhp, 3.0 Liter. I'd absolutely adore having a 2.0 or even a 2.4 inline 4 under the hood of it with around 260-300 bhp.

I'm seriously considering this new Z because of it's smaller engine, but the power number leaves me torn as I really do not need nor want a car that makes more than 300 bhp, especially because bhp is taxed in my country and above 300 bhp the registration gets prohibitively expensive, we're talking over 1200€

Perhaps. You do realize that it’s most likely even less costly to enhance the Supra🤔 I just received mine about a month ago. ECU dump tune and an HKS carbon CAI and it’s pushing 467 at the wheels👍🏻
Anyway, all good. I truly feel for the Z guys. Because this car isn’t it🤷🏼‍♂️
