    I got around to watching this and was pleased. I thought Barugon was kinda cute with his blank-eyed expression and big smile. Thanks for the review!

    5:50 - It also resembles a Jackson chameleon (assuming your familiar with THAT kind of lizard), particularly with the club-like shooting tongue.

    I don't know what it is, but I could sit hear and watch you explaining vintage Gamera movies ad infinitum. I guess I love the idea of something so absurd getting discussed so sensibly.

    I am not well versed in Gamera.So I felt a bit fraudulent about voting.I did it anyway.Imagine my surprise when this movie that I had picked, turned out well ahead in the polls.Anticipating no sudden turnaround in the election results,I head down the tubi trail and watch.I enjoyed it.It was darker and more serious than I anticipated.There is something strangely mesmerising about rubber suited monsters laying waste to miniature buildings and beating each other to a pulp.This voting has been fun.Like being part of a movie society or book club.Only on a global scale.You bring people together.My father went to Japan in 2017.He brought back an A4 one sheet advertising screenings of a Gamera movie in Hiroshima.I can,t read Japanese let alone speak it,so I could not tell the title.There was however enough information on the poster to figure it out.1995,s Gamera Guardian of the Universe(Almost wrote Galaxy).Which you have a wonderful review of.Just read director James Wan state that Aquaman 2 will have a Planet of the Vampires influence.I want to see a scene where Aquaman is watching the Weiselberry review.That would be cool.

      @@Weiselberry>>> Have you seen a Japanese monster movie which -- IF I remember correctly -- shows the humans employing large {unmanned} self-propelled energy weapons. These weapons are deployed by rocket power, then move on tracks {or maybe wheels}?
      I remember seeing this during a Saturday *"CREATURE FEATURE"* on WTOG, Channel 44, in St. Petersburg, Florida in the 1970s. {And YES: TV EXISTED in the 70s...😉}
      I looked-up *"DESTROY ALL MONSTERS,"* the only movie title I could remember off the top of my head, on IMDb. However, none of the movie stills showed what I was looking for.
      {Thanks in advance...👍}

    I liked your commentary on guys that wear sunglasses inside at night. That was funny. I also enjoyed the rest of the review, of course. I agree with the general consensus that this is the best Showa Gamera, but it is a bit overlong. I think my favorite is probably “Gamera vs. Jiger” though, just because it’s so out there. It’s weird because I usually prefer the more serious Godzilla movies, but with Gamera maybe it’s just too hard to take it seriously in the first place.

    Great review! I do agree that this is the best of the Showa Gamera films. It has the best elements of human and Kaiju action. While it does stand out among the more notorious sequels (post Gyaos), this is a more competent and well done film that is a great continuation from the previous film. Barugon is a very interesting Kaiju that keeps you anticipating what other tricks up he has and the fights with Gamera while slow at times, are quite the spectacle to watch.

    “Doesn’t like the cut of his jib.” 🤣🤣 Great review. I was such a Godzilla loyalist as a kid I’ve never seen a whole Gamera film. This looks like fun though!

    I haven't seen any of these movies, but you made me laugh out loud twice with this review. Once when you were talking about the rainbow beam, and then the whole sequence about them making dreadful noise and fighting. Thank you for a genuine LOL 😂

    Many thanks Jerome. I hope you are doing well. On a side note, I would, if possible like to know what Jane Austin book you'd recommend to someone who's never read any Jane Austin books. Sort of a Jane Austin easy early access suggestion. I have seen a couple of Gamera films but am not that familiar with the series other than he's a flying turtle. I still think you should seriously consider writing a film book. Your views are very insightful to film fans. Vampiric romance? lol Early Twilight? I could be wrong. I've not seen any of the Twilight movies other than occasional youtube clips. Given today's climate it could easily make one ill. So many Kaiju monsters! Fight a rainbow? Quick, summons the Lucky Charms Leprechaun! Wow, that's a really dated reference on my part. That roar is a perfect morning alarm clock noise. It'll wake me up! Barugon "I'm Batman". Everything is so clean in that jungle. Thank you again for your always charming and entertaining informative reviews. I hope you have a very lovely day!

    Yay, a Gamera review! This film is easily my favorite of the Showa series for exactly the reason you said - no kids and not made for kids. I like this movie and it is better than a few of the Godzilla movies. I also liked the human plot and the seriousness of it. The romantic theme was also good and I liked the two leads. I think you liked it too, but not completely sure. If you want silliness, look no further than vs. Guiron, which I believe was the runner up in your voting. I don't want to give anything away so you can be amazed and awed when you see it, but just describing the plot would convince anyone how silly it is. Vs. Zigra is probably the next silliest. Vs. Gaos and vs. Jiger are both okay movies. Viras kind of bores me and I've already said that you need to avoid Super-Monster at all costs unless, like me, you end up seeing all of these and want to be a completest. 99% of Gamera in that movie is recycled footage. I'm hoping beyond hope that you will see all the others because they are worth seeing once. They are fun in their own weird way. Oh, almost forgot, I like Gamera's roar. They did keep that consistant - even through the Heisei trilogy. A little different there, but mostly the same.

    Good points about this one being a serious film without a child as a major character. The Kaiju films definitely took a silly turn when they decided to make children the leading human characters.

    Great review as always!!
    This is certainly the most serious of the Showa era. But I don't think it's the best. I honestly think that honor belongs to the original black and white classic!

    Thanks for this review, great job. Watched the movie last week, and I too was surprised by the violence of the human fight scenes. I half expected the old lady from Blazing Saddles to show up: "Have you ever seen such cruelty?" I did enjoy it, though it seemed long. Today I am officially brightened. :0

    This is probably my favorite of the original gamera films. It's definitely got the most interesting plot. A lot of the other films are very slow and filled with dialogue. They tend to get very boring. I was never bored while watching this one. After this, I would say Gamera versus gueron or war of the monsters as it is also known is the best one. Of course, until you get to the 1990s trilogy. You can't top that.

    We your viewers : "Eww shiny! A new Jerome Weiselberry video 👀 lol. The eww shiny bit from your review made me laugh and when you said Barugon didn't like the cut of Gamera's jib, that part made me laugh a lot too, couldn't help but imagine Gamera and Barugon with the voices of Edward G. Robinson and James Cagney, " look here see, I don't like the cut of your jib I tells ya, put em up👊🏻👈🏻. This film looks like an entertaining watch, I think Barugon's googly eyes and rainbow power has won me over, he or she and I can be friends but the tongue and his/her baby booger pictures have to go, I'd also approach the guy wearing shades and ask him if he was in a Jazz band, if his reply was no I'd ask if he plays piano or guitar, if no I'd ask saxophone, if the answer was no again I'd know for sure he was up to no good lol.
    My knowledge of these films is so limited because I'm new to them all really except for some Godzilla films, I did vote though based solely on the cover images and strangely I voted for the latest entry on the list, I was in the 5% who voted for Gamera vs Zigra lol, I did so because for a split second I thought why is Gamera fighting the Sydney Opera House, maybe the Sydney Opera House has it coming, its managed to avoid destruction in disaster films for ages, who does the Sydney Opera House think it is anyway going around with a spiky roof, oh wait, that's not the Sydney Opera House, that's a giant lizard. I think those who voted for Gamera vs Barugon cast their vote wisely. :) ~ Thank you Ms Weiselberry ~

    I’ve recently enjoyed all the Showa era films and even the kid-focused ones have their own charm and some fun ideas. The big problem is that they use that trick of reminding you who Gamera is by repeating the monster fights from ALL previous movies. As you can imagine this ends up being A LOT of reused footage by the end of the era!

    The ONLY Gamera movie I've seen several times. The others I only watch occasionaly! Of the "Kenny" Gameras, I recommend either
    GAMERA V GAOS (a flying vampire reptile) or
    GAMERA V GUIRON (w/female alien cannibals!)

    A guy wearing sun glasses in a darkened room. Marvelous! If only he was dressed in black. Blood sucking as tender moment? Slow moving giant horned quadrupeds with illuminated spikes, rainbow beams and freezing breath in combat? Zach Snyder take note!

    I've only seen this one on MST3K, and recall that it was the most "serious" one of the Gamera films. The humans having more of the focus throughout the film. That said, the monster is really weird when you think about it. Some kind of lizard dog dinosaur that freezes stuff, and shoots rainbows? Anyways, if You want total silliness, the "Guiron" film would be a good choice. Just the first look at him, and You'll have a good laugh. Best to You Jerome D5

    I am flummoxed! I could have sworn that this was the Gamera movie wherein he is 'infected' or 'impregnated' by the enemy kaiju. The some kids have to go inside the little G and they find a baby version of the creature living inside him. Which movie was that one?

    I like this film but it’s not the norm for Gamera films (they dropped the seriousness after this film) treat yourself to seeing Gamera vs. Guiron. It’s so silly and bizarre (closer to what the series is normally like).

    LOL! I'm not a Godzilla fan, but I voted for the oldest. I keep hoping I will start liking Godzilla movies. This particular movie seems to have more of a human element, so I found it more interesting than any other Godzilla movies.
