I feel like there's a slight comparison between this and the Requiem track from Godzilla vs Destroyah, along with the scenes in which they take place. That movie spiritually ties into the ending of Gamera 3, with the last of the Gyaos being hunted down, but it also spiritually ties into the ending of the Showa timeline, taking place in 1973, 2 years after the last movie in the Showa timeline (Gamera Super Monster from 1980 is a weird alternate continuity so it's not counted).

An appropriately sad theme for a movie with a really bleak ending. It's a damned shame that Daiei more or less folded, was acquired by Kadokawa (last I heard anyway), and promptly shelved this franchise they'd resurrected so beautifully. Gamera the Brave was good, but could've been better. We need to bring Gamera back, I think.

It just wouldn't feel right to me. Yes, I have watched all the Monsterverse movies to date and I still think that. Just because it could happen doesn't mean it should.

Gamera shelved ? THAT'S dumbshit ! He is one of the greatest Kaiju EVER conceived. Someone with a freaking brain needs to strike while the iron is hot and interests in the genre is there. As a child Gamera taught me about sacrifice loyalty and never giving up in the face of seemingly bigger badder opposition. I really hope Toho will make a good decision and do Gamera v. Godzilla in their new Godzilla MonsterVerse of sorts. They have said they are planning something like the Legendary Pictures Monsterverse. Time to bring back not just the King of The Monsters, but the Guardian of The Universe.
I did heard that around the Millenium era, Daiei contacted Toho that they are interested for a Godzilla and Gamera crossover, but Toho sadly shunned the idea.

Gamera 3 might be the best kaiju film ever made after Gojira (1954). For a long time, I didn't think another film in the genre could ever reach the thematic and emotional heights of the one that started it all. Gamera 3 showed me that I was wrong. The humanity amidst chaos, the darkness and sorrow, the action, and so many other factors all being part of a world where monsters are the dominant lifeform and to them, we humans are simply in the way and how we as a species desperately need to think carefully about our actions...amazing.

In terms of design, 1999 Gamera is my absolute favorite out of all the Heisei Gamera designs. I just love how menacing he looks and how this is the only Heisei incarnation of Gamera to have a retractable carapace. Plus, this Gamera has easily the best finishing move Ever! A Kaiju sized Falcon Punch known as the Banishing Fist.

He makes good product and turns a profit.
Kaneko said if the movie made 1 billion yen he would of made gamera 4, neither of the previous 2 movies made anywhere near close to 1 billion and didn't even surpass 800 million yen (highest they reached was 700 million) so by all accounts, idk who wanted the movie to make that much in order for a sequel to be made. Plus kaneko already stated he saw the trilogy as a single story with g3 being the final act so a part 4 was probably unnecessary in his eyes even if he was willing to make it. But he did enjoy the fan made gamera 4 film as a fun little what if scenario
