Thanks for your question. Yes salicylic acid is a great option. It works. Like the one in T/Sal. Glycolic Acid is great too. The ordinary 7% is a popular one. But here is my tip for it. Avoid letting it sit for more than 30 minutes . Prolonged use can cause more irritation and more flakes. After you use them, continue on with your normal showering routine, shampoo, condition, rinse, and repeat as needed.
There is another type of scalp scaling. Its caused by demodex mites. If u have dry eyes or rosacea or ocular rosacea u probably have it on your scalp too. My dermatologist never diagnosed it correctly. Prescribed nizoral but it didnt work because that only kills fugus. My ophthalmologist prescribed metronidazole which kills the demodex mites and was resolved in less than a week. Scalp redness and scaling gone.
