I have a USB stick in which there is linux installation iso. can I use this method to install the linux on my hardrive which previously had windows? please reply. edit: what I am confused is by using this method, will my laptop start on the usb stick , i.e, will I have to keep the usb stick plugged in whenever u want to use linux or can I just install the linux on my laptop using the ubs stick and then remove it and then use the linux on my laptop without the stick? please help. I don't want to risk anything.
Dude, fucking great I've been fighting with an old machine and it takes for ever to install from cd, so this will help me a lot when I continue to test different distros, OSs
Didn't work. Had to unplug all USB devices, including mouse (have a PS/2 keyboard) to get it not to lock (numlock/capslock unresponsive) the PC. Ends up saying PLOP A20, and then does nothing. USB drive is an MBR made wtih Rufus for BIOS (not UEFI) and is an NTFS volume containing Windows 10 installation. Not sure what to do at this point.
If you have an optical drive why use a usb? Why if the computer your trying to install an OS on computer that doesnt have an optical drive and only has a usb drive?
Not helpful. Computer screen flickers so much it is hard to see. Also, you click through the things you are doing very quickly without explaining. Good video for those who already know how to do it.
I agree that the flickering creates problems, but the fact that I put all the links in the description, for all the tools used and all of them have instructions should compensate for this.

This is not about the computer that I used in my video, it's about computers that have a faulty optical drive or don't have one at all.
i still dont understand this video is there not a clear video that shows us how to boot a old pc from usb
Let us know if you find one.
Thanks, indian guy! That was helpful! :-)
Romanian. Welcome!
good video :)
Thank you!
There is a program called Etcher that will make bootable USBs. I find it easier to use than YUMI.
Did not know about it. Thank you for the info.
Yeah, theres thousands of programs to make bootable USBs. There is even inbuild options on some linux distros.
Bafta! Sper sa mearga usor treaba 😊
