Wow, this series' Peter Pan is pretty spot on. To not have actually learned a lesson, but just to say "Whatever, I'm tired of this game anyway", is classic book Peter. Kudos to this animated series for not succumbing to the temptation of making him more typically good or heroic.

This always felt more like a season finale episode due to Peter tangling with a villain far above the threat level of the pirates who was able to threaten all of Neverland.

Peter Pan is such a selfish little asshole in this version and I find that hilarious. He's literally the cause of all of their problems. Half the villains wouldn't even be after him if he didn't start shit and piss them off to begin with.

    I 'Member this show.
I was born in 1988. Thus I'm a real 90s Kid with real 90s Childhood Experience (I could tell you where I was when Kurt Cobain died, what fads I bought into, what news events I 'member, and what Disney Movies I saw when they were new. Not like those silly Gen Z Kids who think being born between 1995 and 1999 makes them real 90s Kids).
This show was part of my childhood. From 1996 (when I was in the 3rd Grade), to 1998 (when I was in the 5th Grade), I watched it in reruns on the Fox Kids Programming Block and thought it was cooler than the Disney Version. Then when I found out years later that this was based on the original books, I went out and read those for myself.
Not to mention Tim Curry made an awesome Captain Hook!

In 1993 I convinced my band instructor to use this theme song for our marching band theme. At first he told me to get lost and thought what he had was better even though he had never heard of this song. So after I had recorded the song on cassette tape the next day at lunch I played this in the band on our system loud for the class to hear, all of a sudden my instructor runs out his office and asks what is that and I replied "Our marching theme for next year" lol within the week we had the music

I remember reading the original book, years ago.
The ending is actually kind-of a downer.
Peter Pan returns Wendy and her brothers back to their to their home, and then flies back to Neverland, alright; but (MAJOR SPOILER WARNING) at first the children can still fly.
So their mother ties them to bed every night, to prevent hem from flying back.
Eventually they lose their ability to fly, because they lose their innocence over time (this isn't meant sexually).
And all of the thoughts of the grimness of adult life, weigh the soul down.
Wendy grows up; grows old, and dies.
Meanwhile, a week after returning to Neverland, Tinkerbell also dies of old age; because fairies have very short lifespans.
Peter forgets all about them, because grief and regret are part of growing up, and Peter is the boy who never grew up.
So his not taking responsibility for anything, at end of this episode (much less apologizing to everyone for getting them all frozen solid) is in keeping with the book.

When Nibs asks Peter where he found it almost sounds like Peter's offended that Nibs' would think he came across it honestly, like "How dare you insinuate I would do anything but steal!" LOL
The animation in this is absolutely GORGEOUS. The part where Peter looks at the icy version of himself blows me away with how perfectly it's set up- the shock on his face, the music and the Ice King's lines, "Then take a close look at yourself- and recognize your own pride and vanity!" gives me awesome chills.

So, if all of the children in Neverland were originally brought there by a fairy (or brought there by Peter Pan, who was himself, originally brought to Neverland by a fairy), and children in Neverland don't age, then where did the pirates originally come from? 8:20-8:25 Peter Pan: 1, Natural Selection: 0. I would say that I'm surprised that Peter Pan didn't learn a lesson by the end of this (namely, that he was wrong to steal from the Ice King, probably wrong for trespassing in the Ice King's palace, and definitely an idiot for repeatedly taunting the ice king [endangering not only his life, but the lives of all of his friends, and pretty much everyone else in Neverland]), but learning from one's mistakes is a large part of becoming more mature; and becoming more mature, is part of growing up.

According to Broadcasting magazine (1989), the show was originally developed by Tokyo Movie Shinsha for CBS’ Saturday morning schedule in 1989. However, it did not air then and was dropped “at the last minute” (presumably during pre-production) after that network received complaints from Disney.
Later, it was picked up by Fox Kids and did premiere in September 1990.
Another Broadcasting story (July 9, 1990) mentioned that an unidentified female actress did Peter’s voice and was replaced after “about 35 episodes”. The new actor was Jason Marsden, whose name was not mentioned. He re-recorded those episodes. Presumably, it was done before any of them aired.
Fox's Peter Pan & the Pirates was based J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan was aired Fox as part of its Fox Kids Network block from September 8, 1990 to September 10, 1991. Repeats continued to air until September 11, 1992. A repeat of the series' Christmas episode was aired on December 25, 1993. The series was then on Fox in re-run form on weekday mornings from November 4, 1996 to March 28, 1997 when it was replaced by The Adventures of Batman & Robin reruns midseason 1997. Reruns were then shown on Fox Family from August 15, 1998 to March 7, 1999. I always liked both versions of Peter Pan. The 1953 and this Fox Kids version. Amazing animation by TMS who did many Disney's Adventures of the Gummi Bears, Inspector Gadget, The Littles, Heathcliff, The Wuzzles, and DuckTales episodes and some Kissyfur/The Real Ghostbusters/The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh/Chip 'n' Dale Rescue Rangers/Tiny Toon Adventures/Animaniacs/Batman TAS episodes. If Chiros turns out to be the name of the Night King in Game of Thrones (the TV show, not A Song of Ice and Fire by G.R.R.M.) who leads the White Walkers and brings the Long Winter I'll laugh my ass off.

this look loot different then made by disney the hook opposite captain james hook's hand, in disney the hook is on his left hand but here the hook on his right. This version more correct the then one made by disney because in the book adventures of peter pan , captain james hook's lost his right hand to the Tick-Tock the Crocodile

    • @theoneilovemost
      @theoneilovemost 8 лет назад

actually, Disney was a little more spot on, and captain Hooks hook was on the left in the original stage play

captain Hooks hook was on the right hand in the original peter pan books

This version is perfect! 😃 And about Hook's hand, in the novel, he has the hook on the right so thank you Fox 👍👍👍👍👍 this is the only correct version of Captain 😸
