I use Reolink cameras and love them. I used their NVR and had the same opinions. I use blue iris in all my installs with pfsense, aruba IAP's, and Aruba switches. I am not jumping on the ubiquity bandwagon. I love all your content on your channel bro.
Been running Reolink for my office for over 3 years with no issues. Love being able to access them from my phone when I'm out and about with little to no latency.
Congratulations on the new edition to the family. I've been using Blink systems and they aren't bad for the low price point. With Sales on prime day I got a gull system running for under $200 with two cameras and two door bells. Quality is great but the everything runs on AA batteries and they can die within a few months if it records a lot.
Bit late to the party, but I've also got four Reolink camera's running for about a year now. They're rock solid, and integrate nicely into Home Assistant. Running them through Frigate as a NVR is still on the to do list, the Google Coral has been sitting in a box for over a year... Added bonus, the app still functions completely if you run the camera's without internet access if you're on the same LAN (or VPN in).
Zoneminder. Pretty easy to setup. After all is said and done and the next shiny bobble is the thing, all you will do is check once and awhile that the cameras are still working. Has all the features and more you could ever want or need for the home.
Thanks for making this video. I have been thinking about a surveillance setup and it was great to have your review of this equipment to add to the mix.
Yea I'm surprised he didn't go this route with his setup. I was looking into this for 4-6 4k reolink cameras and still trying to figure it all out. I don't have crazy money though but was able to get a poe switch but trying to figure out the best layout and setup
I use some Reolink cameras with Blue Iris and they are great. I switched from Zoneminder to Blue Iris for NVR and it's a dream to use. Running your own NVR on a PC is best in my opinion for many reasons.. not the least of which is that you can put 2 NICs in it, put all your Chinese cameras on one NIC and don't give it an internet gateway, then connect the other NIC to your LAN with WAN gateway. That isolates all your cameras and prevents them from phoning home, which most all of them will do. Your NVR can still see all of your cameras of course and you can access them remotely, etc.
@@MindForgedManacle Yes. VLANs are another good way to achieve the same thing. I have so much surplus hardware lying around though, I'm always looking for ways to put it to use! :)
Have reolink cameras for outdoors now for over 3 yrs. For price and quality great deal. But definitely shut down access to internet and constant “phoning home” or separate Vlan. Another good choice for NVR would be Synology Surveillance Station. You already have thier gear and it comes with 2 free camera licenses. (Each cost about $50 for life) The GUI and controls and remote connect through their app or i use wire-guard VPN is great! App on phone or ipad is good too. Easy set and forget and navigate. Plus going to Snynolgy NAS you get redundancy of drives. I bought a cheap $50 POE switch to power the cameras. Also.. using a OLD two drive 10 year old 2 drive Snology drive bay. Rock solid still going.
Tho I don’t use tiktok you could use these for shorts or tiktok videos, it would be funny if you film yourself dancing using these cameras instead of a phone/dslr
Reolink has an NVR, RLN36. that holds three HDs and supports 36 cameras. Thats what I plan to get with 3 x 18TB drives. Also all 12MB dome cameras and those indoor cameras and doorbells. Mice are usually including with all NVRs, but I usually use a wireless USB Keyboard/Mouse combo with the USB port.
@@paulfrayne6519 I tired a Logitech wireless keyboard with a trackpad, and a generic USB RF keyboard and touchpad on 3 different NVRs. The KB/Mouse combo must use a USB receiver.
Curious as to how this works with a Synology unit. I was thinking of getting some Reolink cameras and running them into my Synology NAS and using Surveillance Station.
Running reolink cameras with Blue Iris with DeepStack and Motion detection is very good. Very few false positives. I also use Home Assistant for remote access rather then the built in remote access in Blue Iris.
I was looking into getting a Reolink system too! I was debating on the POE NVR or they also make an NVR with 3 HD spaces but no POE and just run the cameras to a POE switch.
My first CCTV system was very similar to this, had to use the mouse for everything too and that was at least 10 years ago. Once the outdoor cameras had started to mess up I decided to go with TP link tapo cams and use our home server with some open source software. Tried a few and ended up using ispy (the original version not agent) it's been fine for years only gripe is I'm not keen on the compression on the 1080 videos. Now the cost of energy has reached stupidity I'm playing with proxmox again on an laptop to create a low power 24/7 system for CCTV, ad blocking and home assistant. I'll be trying out motion eye this week.
@8:00 This was a true "Smack my forehead" moment... The part I always hated about making ethernet cables was holding those tiny wires at the exact right spot and crimping them. NEVER have I seen anything showing you could run the wires THRU the connector and trim them later... this is a game changer for me! Lol!
I setup a blue iris system a few years ago and it's ran great till a couple months ago and all my cameras did a factory reset. Not blue irises fault. I was away at the time and a couple days later I had to go find all the cameras and reassign their ip addresses. It was kinda weird. Other than that it's been super fun to build a system like blue iris
I love my Reolink 4k with NVR but they need to improve on the field of view , that 89 degree is terrible,it’s way too narrow. My logi-2 web cameras that I swapped out had 180 degrees. Reolink we need at least 120.
When it comes to third party solutions, there is Blue Iris, and everything else. If third party software is a place you want to go, Blue Iris is the king of the hill.
I watched a ton of Vids and "The Hookup" speaks highly of reolink cameras. Also, says it's the best GUI provided by the manufacturer. Also, mentions and I agree, it's ridiculous that the phone app is more powerful than a computer GUI. I'd love to see you try blue iris or better yet home assistant with frigate. I have not ventured into those waters and am a little scared to do so. I have my reolink running on windows just fine with a 2nd hard drive for the footage. I don't think I need to worry about retaining it, unless there is an incident and I can retrieve it. Also, with some sim cards, it's viewable for 24 hours on the phone app. So storage doesn't seem to be a big issue for me.
Nice review, i run with the brand *Zosi* DVR system, unfortunately not POE, only bought it for the experience and project of installing CCTV, and very similar to the points you made. Had it for about 6 months and I use it for live view and play back, I just want like the app to have better video quality like the DVR does
Congrats! Why not use Frigate NVR? Maybe with a Coral TPU? I wouldn't use Ubiquiti's cameras simply due to that stupid ring light, and their proprietary system. The only exception would be the Unifi Doorbell Pro, but it would have to be PoE.
Hmmm i like reolink and Eufy, but im specifically looking for a function where Reolink for the following; Reolink camera detects person between x and x hour, and presence is detected for more than x seconds (let's say 30 seconds) THEN I want the system to wake me up. either with a notification alert, or like ring my alexa speakers. I cant find anything on this subject. Any thoughts? A burglar broke in a few doors down, and i just want to be woken up if there's a threat :)
Reolink can do exactly this. Check the video at 12:00. The Alarm Delay can be set to send an alarm if an object is decayed for a certain amount of time. The max you can do is 8 seconds though.
at my home, I use hikvision and it almost same like yours. I think this brand the most secure than other I can found in asia. not a lot good brand. I feel very unconfortable if there's no camera because my home beside highway, a lot people always pass in front of my home.

Right? Lol
my hikvision nvr support it and somehow I use the same keyboard as raid owl

Yeah I second Frigate. I have Reolink cameras set up with Frigate through Home Assistant. Makes them very capable.
I think if you download the reolink software for pc, the interface is similar to the mobile one. Instead of using the web ui.
