after waiting 5 long months. This variety is called Korean sweet potatoes. We also discovered that we have a "friend" that has been enjoying the sweet potatoes as well.

We have had a lot of rain and the potatoes vines are still going with flowers. They have not started to fade or die back yet. I am watching and waiting. I'm concerned, I wonder if mine are being munched on. I will have to check on them.

This is my first ever planting of sweet potatoes. I grew slips of my own from organic, store bought sweet potatoes and purchased 12 slips of the Nancy Hall variety. I’ve heard many great things about them.
Then I gave away about twenty of the slips I’d grown to a neighbor. I saved some to plant myself, but my turkey plucked them out of the tub and chewed them to bits. Sooo, all I planted were the Nancy Hall slips. Only about half survived because the turkey got some before I could put up a fence. So I learned several things and hopefully I’ll still get some sweet potatoes from the 6 surviving vines. At least a few good ones with which to grow more slips. So far they’re slowly starting to get going. With prayers, they’ll produce.
I noticed that you have that heavy red clay under your topsoil. Same here. This fall I’m going to cover the patch with thick cardboard, then straw, then homemade compost, rabbit droppings and finally sawdust and wood chips in hopes of building better soil. Lots of worms already.

Nice harvest. I didn't have problems with stealing from underground, but I came up with a solution which I gonna try the next season. It's fairly simple. I will just take a dense, hard
net and dig it in some 10 cm into the ground. Only then I will make the slopes in which I will plant my sweet potatoes.
I don't have an idea how much it's gonna pay off, but it's worthy to try....

This was fun to watch! We grew these Asian ones, I've seen them called different things but they all seem the same to me, reddish purple on the outside, white inside and super sweet compared to other varieties. Ours were well shaped, but on the small side, here in Michigan it's a challenge to grow them well, the Jewel variety is the only one we've found so far that we can get to "grocery store" size.

@@humbleservantshomestead7974 Shalom! We put rather large slips we were growing over the winter into 17gal buckets the first week of June. I made a soil mix of Peat moss, peat humus, compost + bone meal and Jobe's Tomato & Veg 2-7-4 fertilizer. It's a stretch for us to be growing sweet potatoes, I do think we can pull it off though if I keep tweaking the setup. I plan to post a photo of our harvest to instagram later this week.
