- This is a culmination video of everything I have learned about growing tropical Mango trees in the desert. Everything tries to kill them here. Sun, Heat, Cold, Wind, Disease, Bugs. They also take longer to fruit than other trees here. They also need years to adapt to your yard. Are they worth it? Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeck yeah they are!
The Mad Monk strikes again! Your direct experience as a master gardener, makes your videos more reliable than anything else on RUclips. I always appreciate your videos. Thanks for putting in the work so we don't have to. Tucson says "Hello!".
Thank you for posting so much about the trees you grow. My garden is looking amazing! Your knowledge is unmatched!
Wow looks like you’re going to have a great mango season 🥭👍
Another great job on mango tree thanks Jay keep up the good information on tropical trees
Great for Sharing your Knowledge ...
I grew mulberry trees first for shade during the summer heat mangoes need it here in Arizona the first couple years lots of water and mulch!!!!!!
Hi Jay can you make an update video on your Guamuchil tree?
Excellent video! Thanks for sharing an incredible amount of valuable informant!
Thanks for making this video absolutely loved it. Lots of great information that I’ll have to use. I live in Northern California zone 9b and I was able to keep my first mango alive over winter a Carrie. It was 2ft by the end of summer it was 4ft. I know you said dry variety’s from Pakistan and India. Could you give me like three names you would recommend for really dry climates?
alphonso, malika, manila
@@ArizonaFruitTrees Thank you sir
I live in Central Texas - Zone 8a. Can we grow here?
Definitely not, too many deep freezes in texas
in a greenhouse, or potted and take indoors during winter
@@ArizonaFruitTrees I usually take most of my plants in my temperature controlled shed. I have a container garden.
You demonstrated the burning on the "bark" and the need for shade to cover it - if I don't have a canopy covering the lower part of the mango tree, would you recommend painting it? Would you recommend the same for avocado? Is there a paint that's appropriate? I haven't painted tree bark before.
Wow, your fruit trees are amazing.
How did you get the Japanese mango? As a cutting or bare root?
Lovely video Jay. Do you sell those mango seedlings? I would love to buy one
Love the content, keep it up
How do you like the Alphonso? Im about to plant Alphonso but don’t know how it tastes. Does it taste good, easy to plant and easy to have fruit?
Thank you, Sir.
What is the yellow shopping cart in the air? Also, do you ever address the misting system on top? Also, I can’t believe you said no sulfur. There are so many opinions on each amendment.
Having ordered your mango tree that came from Japan, do you buy from sites like Etsy? Or are these plants you acquired sourced from state side nurseries?
Would you be willing to share where I might also source that one Japanese mango tree as yours?
Thanks
Hi Jay. Great video. I'm growing in California in Los Angeles County around the Pasadena area. Thank you for your invaluable knowledge. Mangoes have been a challenge for me here. The grafted FL stock just hates the cold wet winters I get. My current approach is to grow out Ataulfo mangoes and plant them as rootstocks.
Side question, have you had any damage to your water and gaslines from your figs? I notice you plant those guys very close to your home.
Ill answer for him...we live in arizona so we dont really have gaslines like in cali, im from Monrovia...our appliances run off of electricity so we dont have to worry about gaslines
@@ismaelbeas248 interesting. That's great that you guys have one less thing to worry about when growing. Nice
How about California
should be easy, UV light is not as harsh, and they love warm temps
Only in areas without freezing nights ...even a single cold night will kill young mango plants unless you are actively heating it
I'm confused by your description of "north side or south side." Are you talking about the south side of a structure or are you talking about the south side of your property? Example: at 47:20 you say that "most of them should be on that southern side." You don't seem to be consistent and thus the kind of confusing description at 47:53, "south side of the north side." Then at 49:36 you're on the west side of a structure and point north (I think) when saying it has southern exposure. I hope you'll be more clear in the future. Other than that small nitpicky thing, great video. I'm designing my food forest that I will start in the fall of this year and mangos will be an important part.
Sorry. You plant them on the south edge of the yard. And along the morning east side. That way as the sun travels west they get shaded by the next tree adjacent to it. So each tree only gets morning sun. As they are bigger, they dont care so much for shade, they want to grow big in the sun. Our sun tries to kill them when they are young, cold too
legend!
What about white washing the trunk and branches if exposed to sun all day?
How did you know to make this video for me
? lol
Hi what is the name the mango a lot fruit can you tell me thank you
Why not? Mangoes are a rather expensive fruit and they're addictive to eat.
Witch one your favorite 🥭
Where is your nursery located?
Do you sell Alphonso Mangos? If so,what size?
got a website for your nursery? or address to nursery?
Do you sell mango scions?
i give scions and cuttings for free
@@ArizonaFruitTreesWhen & where can I pick some up…?? Do u think I can start them on an apartment patio…??
@@UniQu3Ly_QU33Ni3 they can be in pots. Several tropical nurseries here, and online sell them smaller
Have you tried growing cacao trees? If you have what have you learned so far?
I dont have a good source for them. They sell them online, but they always come small and half dead from shipping
@@ArizonaFruitTrees Sorry I meant any insights or experience to share.
do your customers like when you treat them like they're the dumbest people on earth? It's hard to learn from your videos when you're so condescending, and I want to learn from them.
You would have to ask them. I am very cut and dry with things, and may be interpreted as being abrasive and condescending. There is a lot of misinformation here about growing fruit trees, especially these hard to grow plants. So taking a hard approach, with something as expensive and time as mangoes is necessary. If you would like to be treated like you are dumb, I can, or my viewers can, probably suggest at least 3 nurseries here that will truly treat you as though you are the dumbest people on earth
Cut and dry is good, we are here for info, not sugarcoating
There’s always that one person in the comments without that wants to be coddled like a child. Just take the information bud.
