This is THE best RHCP album! It is their artistic peak after so many years of hard work. They could not have gotten here without 'Blood, Sugar...' but structurally and thematically it is several steps above that album. These songs flow together like multiple dreams that turn out to be a single acid trip. Or vice versa! It is also the album that captures the end of the 90's (yes, great artists see the future 4 years before the 90's really end) and the last moments of culture not strongly affected by the internet, social media, and smartphones. 'Californication' would be the entrance of RHCP into the real mainstream therefore solidifying 'One Hot Minute' as true Art.
Totally agree, but it’s funny, John thought of OHM as the band already selling out, making an album just riding on their popularity and established cred. I know he probably never listened to it front to back, cause when you hear the album it doesn’t feel like that. Definitely takes more risks than BSSM, which they easily could’ve just made another, lesser version of instead of the album we got.
I love this album( obsessed ) it’s their dark side of the moon… insanely good and out there and so many intricacies and complexities . Love the Navarro era ..

John’s whole attitude of “the chilis can’t and didn’t carry on without me” is total bs. Chad I could see playing the songs and some with flea but John’s attitude is the problem
This is killing. What a great album. This sounds better than the studio versions due to the lack of digital distortion. What a shame. I hope someday it will be remixed/remastered... but I doubt that will ever happen. Dig the heavy ass jams. I loved Dave Navarro era chili peppers. Dark, heavy and psychedelic. Much of this was recorded in Australia by radio station tripleJ. I listened it to death in the day. Some tracks on this are not from that set/def not Navarro. if anyone has the full set that they broadcasted would appreciate it.. unreal set with a lot of bssm

Love that Chad has always used this technique when he needs to help the band resynchronise during the song. When they come back in from the long instrumental interlude around the 37 minute mark during One Big Mob they come in a little hot and not in sync. At 37:16 he does a loud and fast drum thrash to help distract the audience while the band reset instantly to get their timing back. Genius.
Why not…Have you heard them in the 80s when JF was not in the band and Hillel was the guitarist ? By your logic then the albums with JF shouldn’t be RHCP album as well

@@robbedontuesday this is their most sonically interesting album I would say...it almost feels like a concept album or prog…Dave put in tons of work and experimented with tones when tones was very limited…put on a clinic for funk I would say when you had primus, extreme, and Mike Patton mixing funk, hip hop and grunge elements .…if anyone listened to rhcps 80s stuff when they did pure funk rock, this has the essence of their root..JF was good in the first three years before going full junkie and came back as a sloppy player…for me music needs to evolve and a bands ability to produce drastically different music in each album yet knock it out of the park is a sign of musical maturity and evolution

As with many others opinions. I agree. Favorite album of all RHCP. Wish they would embrace it instead of shunning it. Love what Navarro brought in to the bands music. If i play an RHCP album this is it.

Can all us Peppers fans agree… we shouldn’t be held to ransom by Frusciante? Yes he’s an epic player, but we’ve all endured through the highs and lows of breakups and breakdowns, addictions etc… we deserve to hear the tunes that resonate with us? Deep Kick is my #1 Peppers tune…

This album is fire. Dunno why it gets so much hate. Navarro brought a different side to the Peppers. Way better than Californication IMO.
