DISCLAIMER
I was not paid for this video but Blackstar did provide me with the amplifier for making the video. This does not affect my opinion in any way.
In this video I'll be taking a look at the brand new ID:CORE V3 amp from Blackstar. The version I use in this video is the 20w version, the ID:CORE 20, but this is also available in a 10w and 40w version too.
The ID:CORE amps have been around for a while but this is the v3 update which adds some great new features and makes these amps even better.
They sit in an entry level friendly pricepoint, but they certinaly out perform the pricepoint they sit in. Many times while making this video I forgot that I was even playing a small amp.
The super wide stereo sound that comes from the twin 5" speakers really does spread around the room enough to convince you that you're playing through a much bigger amp.
The amp has 6 onboard voices, 4 reverbs, 4 delays and 5 modulations as well as a tap tempo, built in tuner, USB interface, lineout for live streaming and line in for music playback. There are so many features jam packed into this little amp.
The amp also has 6 preset slots which can be accessed via Preset Mode. These can be edited on the new Blackstar Architect Software (Video on this coming soon!)
It doesn't matter if you're a beginner with your first amp or a pro looking for an amp to jam in the hotel room or at home, this amp has it all.
The ISF feature makes each of the voices transform from scooped, sparkly American voiced tones to mid humped British tones and there is enough gain in the OD2 channel to satisfy even the hungriest of gain seekers.
In the video I am using my Jackson Adrian Smith SDX plugged straight into the amp which is mic'd with a Lewitt Audio LCT440.

I've watched a few videos on these ID Core V3 combos's today and you are they only one to mention the manual and preset button, you also got the best tones out of it to my ears !!, fantastic sounds from that little combo and your playing was superb, I quite fancy one of these !! :)
Hey John,
Thank you for checking it out. I'm really glad you enjoyed the video.
Yeah the Manual and Preset button is a great feature I think. It really gives you a lot of extra options with the amp because you could load 6 of your own presets in there, but still have an option to create a new sound in Manual mode without removing a preset. Very useful I think!
It's such a good amp for such a low price. I knew it would sound decent, but honestly, it did blow me away a little bit. The tiny 5 inch speakers really do pack a punch and it has this superwide Stereo feature built in which actually makes the sound travel around the room. I really forgot I was playing such a small amp for a while.
Leigh knows the amp. One of the best reviewers of anything on You Tube. Most of the 'influencer' reviews of the ID:Core are pre-afflicted by Katana mindset bias reviewing ID:Core freebies without much sincere interest. They haven't taken the time to famil and know the amp or its features, nor how to get the best from it and them. It's just smarter for subs and views for them to go with the fanboy favourite for likes and views. i.e. they don't want to praise/like Blackstar.
Can you explaine working with the footswits . Thanks
@@Minous-if6py I can. Blackstar's FS-11 is proprietary to the ID:Core series. It works with any version revision of the ID:Core 20W & 40W amps. It is a programmable 'smart' footswitch. You can choose to operate it in one of two modes. Mode 1 the left switch toggles between 2 preselected voices (Channels), the right switch toggles effects (Effects) on or off. Mode 2 toggles the 6 voices (default or your patches) up or down sequentially using the right and left switches respectively. You preselect which Mode of the two you want to operate in, and which 2 pre-selected voices (you choose from the 6) to toggle between if choosing Mode 1 in Architect. Once programmed, the footswitch remembers your preference and functions in one of the two modes with as described above until you change it.
The footswitch itself is an attractive robust metal box which comes with an approx. 3m or 3½m cord, adequate for performance displacement from the amp in a home practice environment. For the $$, comparatively with other high profile brands it's a superb value accessory. Must have for intermediate players or anyone who sticks with the ID:Core as a practice amp IMV. I was without one for the first few years. Would have bought mine earlier had I known how pragmatically useful it is.
Thank you
Just got mine and I'm so glad I found your video, the instructions weren't boring to listen also very easy to understand too!
I've just picked this amp up today, amazing video! I never knew how much more I was getting with this, thanks bro!
Never seen such a thorough review / demo !, you answered every single question I had pre purchasing ,superbly well done👍
Leigh, Your playing style - when I hear someone playing like this- that what keeps me motivated to go on and practice. Greatings from Hungary 🙂🤘
Wow, thank you so much! I really appreciate the kind words. Thanks for checking out the video and taking the time to leave a comment. What are you currently practising?! I always love finding out what others are working on!
The best review of this amp. I got one a year ago for learning and practicing and I like it a lot. You've explained all the features very well.
Thanks for checking the video out. I’m glad you enjoyed it. It’s a great little amp! It’s one of my favourite practise amps
I just bought this amp and wasn't clued up on everything.. you have just batted it out of the park. Thanks for the video. Brilliant mate 👏 👍🏻
Best review out there. Just got the amp. Thanks for all the detail. Subscribed.
So a friend of mine gifted me a Blackstar amp. Before I watched this video, I did not realize the tremendous value this amp has. I'm floored at the range of options and sound you can access. I'm so stoked. You have a new subscriber! Cheers Leigh! 🍻
The amp can do so much! It’s so versatile for such a small amp, I love it!
Thanks for checking out the video and thanks for subscribing!
I know this is an older video but wow has it helped me out. I have watched it twice and learned so much on how to use the control. there are still a few things i need to learn about the different effect but I least I know have a better I did on what I need to learn to fully get the best use out of the amp. You did an outstanding job on explaining the effects. Thanks for taking the time on making this awesome video.
Wow, this is by far the best amp review i have ever seen. You chose to show off the amp and not yourself like most other reviews.
Because of your review i have just ordered one and can't wait to get my hands on it. All i have got to do now is learn to play like you.I have subscribed to your channel and look forward to your software review. Your review, and this amp have rekindled my interest in playing and writing. . I may be on a pension but i ain't dead yet and this will keep me going. Thank you so much Leigh and Blackstar.
Hey Steve,
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment. I'm really pleased to hear you enjoyed the video! I hope you enjoy the amp when it arrives! I love mine, I use it all the time for practising. The tones are so good considering the size of the amp. It also has a super wide stereo sound which doesn't come across on the video, but when you hear it in the room it really fills the room.
Are you just re-starting your guitar journey? Did you play before?
@@LeighFugeGuitar I did play in a band in local working mens clubs, but not for the last 20 years. I played rythm guitar but really i would like to play lead. I'm not a natural so i learn everything parrot fashion, but i now have time to try.
Hands down the best review of this amp I've seen on YT Thanks!
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for checking it out!
Best video on this amp. I own it and now I really understand it and how to use it. Very thorough and insightful review. Great playing also.
Thanks so much for checking it out. Glad you were able to get sone knowledge from it! 😃
This video is great man, I'm buying this amp for sure, thank you so much. Hug from Argentina
Thank you so much man! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Thank you for checking it out and leaving a comment!
I bet you have helped sales tremendously ❤ thanks very in depth review
Very helpful. Bought one, delighted with it. Thanks.
Awesome, glad you like it! Thanks for checking out the video!
A very thorough, clear and helpful review, Leigh. Subscribed.
Hey Mark, thanks for checking it out and leaving a comment! Really glad to hear you enjoyed the video, and thanks for subscribing! ✌️hope you enjoy the channel
@@LeighFugeGuitar Looking forward to it, Leigh.
What a great demo, thank you. Definitely going to get one of these. I've had a Roland Cube for the past 5-10 years, so I think I'm due an upgrade! Thanks for such a well-made, informative demo.
Hey thanks for checking it out! Glad you liked it. Yeah this is a great amp to swap out your old Cube with. If you need a small practise amp that can do a huge range of tones this is pretty hard to beat!
Did you end up getting it? I'd be curious to hear from someone who's tried both, since I'm needing to choose between a Cube and this.
@@PutItAway101 Going to order it this week! Will let you know
@@Stu-Vino did u like it?
@@AyushMehta8 Yes, I do, particularly the clean tones. I don't use the effects a great deal, because I have my own pedalboard, but the clean bright and clean warm are very solid. Crunch is good, too.
I just got this amp. Your video is a really good reference for dialing in my ideal sound. Thank you!
Thank you John, I’m glad you enjoyed the video. It’s a great little amp. It’s surprising how much volume it puts out for such a small amp too. Thanks for checking the video out
Hey I have a question can you use headphones with this amp?
@@raphaelbizot4292 Absolutely! You can also connect an external audio device (wired) to play along with.
Excellent, excellent, excellent review. Very very helpful!!
Your the only person ive seen talk about the tuner and how it works and ive been wondering why its listed as a feature on the amp and yet no one was mentioning it so thanks for that
Great demo, just bought the 10w so this is so so helpful
Thanks so much, they've also just brought out a v4 of this line too which is killer! How are you finding the 10w so far?
@@LeighFugeGuitar If I’m honest, I’m struggling. I’ve recently decided to get back into playing. I’m 41, I had a Les Paul with a bunch of pedals when I was 17-22, haven’t played since and this year I bought a Tele, a reverb pedal and an overdrive pedal plus the Blackstar thinking I’d get straight back in (albeit with a new tone).
In 1997-99, I’d find every sound I loved. It’s not happening currently 🤷🏼♂️
Appreciate your efforts, man.Thanks🙌
I just bought this amp after previously using basic amps without all the effects this has, which left me a little bit baffled by all the options! So this is a really helpful video that's helped me better understand the amp's settings and given me confidence to try new things them in manual. You make it sound so much better than me... I''ll work on it though haha. Thanks Leigh!
Thanks for checking out the video Rob! Really pleased to hear you enjoyed it.
Yeah I get that, it can seem overwhelming to have so many options available. The good thing with this amp is that it does a lot of things very well. Whenever I'm looking for a sound, I start by setting everything to 12 o clock and listening to it and trying to figure out what I want it to do from that point. I find that's always a good starting point rather than trying the extremes of a control knobs range.
Would you recommend it
@@ankushmamgain8227 absolutely (I got the 10 watt version as my first "proper" amp after having a bass amp for a while) as it is incredibly compact -fits in my backpack though admittedly quite snugly - and the reverb and stereo feel incredibly big! I've also used the interface feature which, for the price, is severely underrated imo especially as you can get audio interfaces for the price of the amp.
awesome demo im probably picking this up
Great informative video Leigh
Thank you Steve! Glad you enjoyed it! Hope I did the amp justice, I know you know this thing inside out!
Best review of this amp out there
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed! Thanks for checking it out!
Agree. Leighs exploration review here is outstanding. Also watch Steve Stines of the ID:Core 40 V3 as well. Both know what they are doing, what they are talking about, and have taken the time to famil with this amp before reviewing and exploring it. The two best/worthwhile demos of this amp on You Tube.
Although I have other amps, I admit to Blacksta bias. I have many of their amps, lsmaller, larger, SS and valve, including an original ID:Core 40 (V1) and a new ID:Core 40 V3. For their intended role, the ID:Core 40 can't be beaten on a features & all round performance on a bang for the buck ratio, and I prefer using them in the home/studio over the Katana 50.
Sounds great! Cool demo.
Thanks for checking it out Kevin! It's a great little amp. Glad you enjoyed.
Sounds good brother! Definitely liking those Blackstar amps - the tube model behind you interests me the most.
Thank you man!
Which one of the tube ones? There’s 2. The black one is the HT20mkii and the cream and red one is the Studio 10, both awesome.
The Studio 10 is my go to amp for demos
@@LeighFugeGuitar That studio10! Loved your video on it. Not doing much gigging these days (though thinking about doing small solo shows with my new material I've been writing). Have to admit that modeling amp sounds great too. Is it pretty consistent? I've struggled with my Vox because I swear it's hard to get the same sound out of twice (or at least, twice in a row!).
The Studio 10 is amazing, it's become my go to amp I love the tones you can get from it. I did a gig with it last year and it can keep up with a drummer. It wasn't mic'd up either. The drummer wasn't the loudest in the world, but the amp still held it's own and sounded awesome cranked.
The Blackstar modelling stuff like the SIlverline and ID:Core ranges are very consistent in my experience and they always sound good.
@@LeighFugeGuitar That sounds great Leigh - tough choice but glad to hear the studio 10 is loud enough. I really did like that Blackstar modeling amp too that you reviewed. Well, either way if I get one of them I will buy through your channel - us creators got to stick together, right?
Thanks Leigh best demo on utube
Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I have this amp. Thanks for this! 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Hey Victor, thanks for checking out the video! Hope you're enjoying the amp!
Fantastic demo thanks
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed it!
Darn good review Mr. thank you.
Thank you Anthony! Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for commenting
Only demo, which to my ears got a decent tone for a strat. Finally.
A lot of people seem to struggle with Strat tones, I think it's because people try to make them too bright. You do have to work a little with a Strat, but it's an essential tone I think! Glad you liked it!
A fine sounding amp. I see it has option for footswitch! Very cool for a mid size amp!
Yeah absolutely! You can use two different foot switches, one is a two button and the other is a 5 button so lots of options too!
@@LeighFugeGuitar Great video and love the tones you get from the amp. You mention two different foot switches. I can find reference on their website for the 2 button version (FS-11) and they also mention the FS-18 which I can't find online. Is that the 5 button switch?
unfortunely that's not an option on the stereo 10, which is disappointing but fine at the price point and the features are enough to satisfy me for the time being
I've got the v2 40 great starter amp so many features and it sounds great . The 40 is loud though very rare do I get past half way on driven sounds.. 20w may well be enough for most
I'm just learning about my V3 Stereo 10. All it needs now is a Trevor Rabin setting and a Steve Hackett as well haha
Great review! plus caught the shirt you’re wearing, another thumbs up for

Awesome! Thanks for checking out the video, glad you enjoyed it. I hope you really love the ID Core! Let me know what you think when you first play it!!
@@LeighFugeGuitar yea I bought it today, awesome practice amp
My amp is V3 id 10, it has a different factory crunch setting, hall and chorus, instead of hall and phaser. Paperwork says hall and phaser but also says patches might be different, they set with more gain also, od1 and 2 are set with full gain.
This is the best video for how to use blackstar idcore v3. After watching so many stupid useless videos I ended up here. Thanks for this man!
Hey Melwin, thank you so much for the kind words! Really pleased you enjoyed the video! Thanks for checking it out! It's a great little amp, lots of fun and loads of great tones!
I have the v3 40 omg sick amp.i old school it by pass the fx set od 2 turn the gain up wow
Sounds diggity dope!
Anybody can tell me if the id core 20/40 takes overdrive n distortion pedals well?
Hi can I plug a looper in? Would the looper play the same tone? What footswitch can I get? Can I plug my iPod in to play along? Thanks
Hi Leigh,Great Demo.it worth buying, I have 40 watts v2,I love the amp, by the way Leigh, got rid of Silverline 50 watts it did not have bottom end and Bass and punch, it nice amp but it not for me,I play Id core 40 watts more then silverline,I wish Black star would make ID Core 40 watts Head again and like it and try it through 4x12 cabinet at music,it was awesome and and tones are killer sound, I Like clean bright and clean warm and my big 2 favorite are crunch and super and that my classic rock tone with les paul,Honestly I am sold any Black star amps, and you can't wrong ID Core amp,I use to practice my room and jam with some friends and they say it Rocks, and I agree and I play against my friend Boss Katana 50, and he said my Black Star Id core 40 sound better his 50 watt amp,I was not impress with katana at all.Black Star Amp Rules.
Hey,
Thanks for the comment! That's a shame you didn't get on with the Silverline, personally I love it. It's one of the most surprising amps I've played in the last 12 months. I find the trick with the low end is to dial it in with the Resonance control. This gives the impression of the low end response you'd get if the amp was played really loud.
The ID Core amps are killer too though! Blackstar make great stuff.
@@LeighFugeGuitar Thank you for your reply, it ok, I learn my lesson on silverline amp,I bought it without trying out in music store, when got home,I love the tones and sounds, it awesome, but notice it not enough Bottom end to it, I still love my ID Core 40 watts and my killer presets with the footswitch, I notice when I was outside playing amp on ground and I was getting that bottom end with Id core,it was awesome and I notice sitting in chair or standing up and Guitar tones awesome.
So, I’m still new to all this and this is my amp…the reason you would still need to buy pedals that do the same effects as the amp does is so you could change effects mid-riff is that correct?
Wow...great video❤
Any changes on v3 comparing to v2?
Hey man,
Thanks for checking out the video!
Yeah they pretty much re-voiced the whole amp for V3. It's still got the super wide stereo, but the voices of the amp channels and the effects are re-done to sound even better. You can now connect a 3.5mm out straight to your phone/camera for live streaming. Theres a USB connector which allows you to record straight to your DAW with a software they call Cab Rig (Which is a digital cab sim)
It's a fantastic little thing!
I know I’m a bit late but I have the stereo 10, is there still a way to put pedals in?
newbie here, was wondering if i want some metal tone, i obviously can use a pedal or a processor but since i am very low on budget cuz music instruments costs 3 times higher the original price, i was hoping if i can plug my guitar like this ............guitar goes in to my audio interface ---- DAW----- use guitar rig or bias fx for pedals (with amp disabled offcourse)------then output from audio interface goes to my blackstar amp--
Can i use like this and still make it work without any latency or any harm to my computer or anything?
This amp is affordable and there are great features ! I brought v3 10watt amp.
Awesome! The amp sounds great. The 10w version is awesome for playing at home, and it should be loud enough for when you want to crank it!
@@LeighFugeGuitar i am loving and enjoying this 😍
I've been looking at the id core range, would this be an upgrade from the line 6spider 3?
Such a well done video, thank you! Quick question as a beginner, any thoughts on amp settings and humbucker for playing AC/DC?
Thank you for checking out the video!
Great question. I'd use the Super Crunch mode, set the gain to taste (Maybe about halfway). The AC/DC tone isn't about gain, it's volume, so the cleaner but punchier it is, the better.
ISF all the way to the British side and the tone on about 2 o clock for some brightness. Maybe a little bit of reverb, but nothing else. That would work great for an AC/DC style crunch.
@@LeighFugeGuitar Thank you so much Sir. I'll give it a try. The humbucker seems to be my biggest variable. Not sure what to do with that. I'm very new to this LOL
@@LeighFugeGuitar What about for playing disturbed?
@@LeighFugeGuitar hey,i want to ask how to get Queen guitar style setting thank you 😊
I'm going to buy the ibanez grg171dx and this amp, how is it mostly for metal, will it satisfy?
What tone would you prefer to play rammstein with?
Hi , I watched your demo of the debut 50. Which was another very good demo by you. I mostly play blues style, and Hendrix, Clapton and some classic rock. Would this be a good choice, or is the debut 50 the way to go. I’m after the warm edge of breakup sound.
Hey, thanks for checking the videos out! Glad to hear you enjoyed them. I would say for the sound that you're looking for, the Debut 50 is better. The IDCore 20 is great and has way more built in with effects, delay, reverbs and way way more gain... BUT, it's a small amp with small speakers. They sound killer.. BUT... you really want a good 12 inch speaker for the full range of that sort of tone. The Debut 50 I think does the vintage sounds better.
Hey man, a very informative video. Appreciate it👍. I have a doubt .
How'd you compare this with the Blackstar Debut 15e ?
Hey man,
Thanks for checking out the video and commenting. Great question . The Debut 15 is also a great amp. I've done a demo for that too.
The ID:Core is more versatile than the Debut 15. It has more modes, built in effects and you can save and share presets. The Debut 15 is all analog, and the only effect is a delay. It's two analog channels and it's less versatile, but it still sounds great.
If you need lots of tones, I'd pick the ID:Core, but if you just need one really good sound (Drive and clean) and you may want to use pedals, then I'd check out the Debut.
@@LeighFugeGuitar thank you so much. I have one more question. Will the 10w version of Blackstar ID Core V3 be sufficient and loud enough for home practice for a beginner?
can i use this amp with distortion pedal like boss metal core?I want death metal sounds.
Very good 👍👍👍
Thank you for checking out the video! Glad you enjoyed it!
Great in deep review video!
I'm really 50/50 between a katana 50 and the ID40. People advised me to the katana but I Think this ID have better sound in Metal stuff, is that right or is just impression??
Hey,
Thanks for the comment. They're both great amps, but personally I prefer the sound of the ID Core. I think the Blackstar drive tones are more organic than the Katana, but, it's super close. I'd love to try them out side by side.
*Update to anyone
Went for the IDcore 40. Amazing amp and incredible easy to use all the controls even without to connect to PC. But the speakers on heavy metal stuff are a little bit weak, even at (high)bedroom volume you start to wear strange sounds.
So I returned it and brought the katana 50 mk2.
Amazing amp but much more complex and you almost always need to connect to PC to have good tones. Unfortunately it is not as good as the black star for heavy stuff(tone wise). To solve a little bit this problem I use it on a external closed cab.
If you're still debating... the blackstar hands down. Played the katana 100... sure it goes a shitload loader but my core id 20 sounds nicer 😳
Hence why I ended up buying the core id 100.
These things are stunning.
I'll probably never outgrow it.
@@vincentjackson3472 I agree, seems the cores seem to get a lot of hate for some reason, but I love mine.
Would it be worth it to get a distortion pedal to use with this for a more grungy sound?
The amp has quite a lot of gain inside anyway, but if you felt the need to add more you can always do that.
hey man I am beginner so please help me what is the setting for canon rock tone I can't understand od2 or od1 or super crunch.
what does it mean when the light blink green.
Did you find out the tone setting i also want to play this song and want to buy this amp
This is probably the best affordable amp i've ever heard imo. But how do u use Reverb + Modulation/Flanger at the same time? It'd be a bummer if i can't.
I agree with that! It's my favourite small amp for practising at home. The amp has 3 different effect types, one of each can be on at all times. You can have a delay, reverb and a modulation on at once (or a combination of the three) so yeah you can run a flanger and a reverb together 😀
@@LeighFugeGuitar How? Do you need to plug it in through the usb for both effects run at once?
Do pedals work with it?
Hey dude, I’m gonna buy a guitar and an amp for the first time next week, but I’m stuck between buying a cheaper amp with a boss katana 50 Mk2 or spend a little more on the guitar and buy a black star ID core 10/20…
I wanted to ask if the black star can have fuzzy style tones (think stoner rock or heavy blues) because that is what is really gravitating me towards the boss katana, if I can achieve a similar sound to the katanas fuzz options it would be great, but I haven’t found anything online indicating that I can do that, so can you help me with that?
Thank you so much in advance!
Hey man!
Thanks for checking out the video and for the comment.
The ID Core 20 is a killer amp, but what it doesn't have is fuzz built in. If you like the sound of the ID:Core, then you could also look at picking up a fuzz pedal to pair with it. The ID:Core has a lot of gain on tap but it doesn't have a fuzz option. I think the Katana does have Fuzz built in though because it has the option to emulate most of the Boss pedal range.
Hope that helps!
@@LeighFugeGuitar Thank you so much this is actually quite helpful!
@@LeighFugeGuitar Hello Leigh, nice vid!
so, which one do u prefer if u already have a pedal set up? thanks!
Does this have TVP? True Valve Power
Hi
Would you help me decide between Marshall mg cfx and id core 10 v3?
I'm a beginner and just looking for a worth money good sound
Hey, thanks for the comment! I'd personally choose the ID Core, I think it has more sounds on offer and I just love the way they sound!
Hi, I wanna play like Jazz, Blues, Classic Rock type of songs, i love to soft tones and musics. Can you advice that amp for my expectations and play style? Thank u.
Hey, this amp could definitely get you through all those sounds. The Warm Clean voice is great for Jazz and the Crunch channel sounds great for Blues and Classic Rock!
Is it just me or does the tremolo sound like it has another modulation effect on? It's especially noticable on mine if distortion is used
I can't say I noticed that at the time, but looking back at the video I can totally hear what you mean. It's almost like a Harmonic Tremolo style sound rather than a straight volume tremolo.
@@LeighFugeGuitar Ah right. Honestly I'd prefer just a standard tremolo, I might just get a pedal for that
Thumbs up.☝
Thank you! 🔥🎸😀
Great video. My amp sounds too bassy on the lower strings and very treble on the higher strings at the same time. I am using the standard settings with a fender lead 3 guitar. Any advice?
you can change those settings in the Architecture software. it has separate bass mid and treble knobs in it
@@victor260698 I tried that. Pls read my post. After all adjustments possible the lower strings sound too bassy and the higher strings sound very trebly
@@Vikrammundra no idea then. i tweaked those knobs in architecture and it worked fine for me 🤷🏻♂️
I'm wondering did you experience any static noises when recording this amp, cause I do, do you know how to remove the static noises ?
Hey,
I didn't get any static noise when shooting this video, and I've made quite a few videos using it for Blackstars own RUclips channel too and it's never given me any noise problems. What guitar are you using with it? Some pickups can add a lot of noise if they're prone to interference.
@@LeighFugeGuitar thanks for replying, I'm using a custom shop guitar called Soloking ms-1, maybe one more thing that I find interesting is that whenever I put my hand on top of the strings of the guitar the static sound will diminished a bit but when I take my hand off the strings or when I'm not playing it'll make that static sound again the sound would be much more loud if I'm using the Crunch or OD channel. Is that something to do with the pickups?
Hey I have a question can you use headphones with this amp?
Hey! You can indeed! There is a headphone output on the top of the amp!
I really wanna know how it compares to the debut 15
Totally different beast. The ID Core has way more features. It has more drive on tap, with more drive options, built in tuner, built in effects etc.. the Debut 15 is a lot more straight to the point, clean or drive with some delay. Nothing fancy, but the core tone is good. The ID Core works better for someone who needs a lot of tones at home.
Hi Leigh
How well does it takes pedals?
Hey Gregory,
It takes pedals pretty well, but it has so much built in that you probably wouldn't need to run much else with it. What pedals are you thinking of pairing with it?
so pretty the song from pearl jam, is my fav ;c
Did I play something that sounded like Pearl Jam? It probably wasn't on purpose because I don't know how to play any of their songs haha
is there a way to hear the guitar through the software in my pc? because i still cant find that option
There is... but I haven't tried it personally yet so I don't know how to set that up... but it is possible. I think you may have to connect the amp via USB and use it as an interafce via a DAW.
@@LeighFugeGuitar yes that is exactly how
Is there any tonal difference between id core 10 and id core 20???? Or just loudness is the main difference???
As far as I can see, no. I think it's just a size/volume difference. The insides are the same and you'll be able to get the same sounds from it. I'm pretty sure the 10 has all the same features.
Probably the biggest difference is speaker size. The 10 is a pair of 3" speakers and the 20 is a pair of 5" speakers. The 10 will probably have less low end response than the 20, so the 20 will probably sound fuller overall, but I don't imagine it'll be hugely different.
I may get this but I want to know …how aggressive is the noise gate?
It's a very good noise gate, but I don't know how it would hold up if you were using loads and loads of gain. For what I use it for, it works perfectly.
@@LeighFugeGuitar thanks!
Can we take this amp into a stage even with using mic setup does it sound good??
You could use it on stage but it’s very small. You’d be better off getting an amp with a bigger speaker for stage use
❤️❤️❤️
Thank you, you legends! Pleasure as always!
You guys knocked it outa the park with this line of amps (no experience with the others yet, as I'm new to guitar). Please can you advise how to connect to a cell phone that takes USB c ... be great if a trrs cable and USB b mini was included.
Otherwise doing back flips with this amp. 😎
Hi bro, this video was good demo of this amp. Can you describe the volume of this amp? Is it loud enough?
Hey thanks so much. It depends what you mean by loud enough? What are you looking for it to do?
@@LeighFugeGuitar may be i can't examine my though clearly . loudness of this amp for home, for bedroom maybe.
Question ? When I plug my headphones in through The headphones out, there is so much hissing. Do I have a faulty product or is it something else. I plugged my headphones into the Blackstar fly and it is fine.??
Hey, I didn't try it through headphones so I'm not sure but that doesn't sound right to me. I would check with Blackstars support or via your local dealer to see if it's an issue.
just to say firstly, your videos are well explained Leigh. Yes, I will contact my local dealer as with all of Blackstar products, I have never had a problem. Maybe I am the unlucky one :-( But oh my, it really sounds great.
@@Mr-Safology Hey there, what did you end up doing with yours in the end? I'm experiencing the same issue... I like the amp but it's pretty much unusable with headphones plugged in...
@@seanthurley-sonicatmos8105 Hi Sean. First of all, it may be mismatched impedance from the headphones used. I asked around and a few said that the headphones may be too powerful for the amp. I found that strange. So I checked my headphones spec and it's 32ohm. Personally that should have been fine. So I contacted the store I bought it from, told them the issue. They said the usual; check your mains, the guitar cable. I told them my mains are fine and I use quality cables. Please sort this out. The next day, I packed my amp for the DPD delivery driver to pickup from my house. Received a new one 2 days later. Being eagerly patient, I unboxed this great Swiss knife of an amp (which in fairness it really is and especially for the price). Plugged my beauty red strat to check everything is fine with the amp. All good so far. Now for the moment of truth. Plugged my headphones in: the excessive white noise has drastically reduced. If it was 70% noise and 30% guitar hearing before, it is now 70% guitar and 30% excessive noise. It has reduced but is not completely clean. Now I do expect some noise in the background. I am happy with it. However, I have asked few others and no answer yet to why it isn't completely clean when listening via headphones. What you hear from the speakers is what you hear in the amp. That's great for me. But if I find out it should be clean without any noise, I will contact you and the guitar store to provide me another new packaged blackstar id core 40 V3 amp. Hope I have helped. 👍🏼
@@Mr-Safology Hey thanks so much for the detailed reply and advice. I tried a few different sets of headphones and had the same issue... and all my leads are good quality. I'm gonna send mine back as well as I like to play late at night with headphones on. I really like the amp but not sure if I'll get it replaced yet or maybe look for something else. It's a bit of a bummer as the amp is a lot of fun... but I guess there always seems to be some kind of compromise with smaller amps... Thanks again! Sean
Hello, How do i put rock sounds?
The Super Crunch or the OD1 voices are great for those sort of sounds!
Id core 10 or the roland cube 10gx?
I haven't played the Roland personally, so it's hard to say. But I do like the ID:Core!
comsidering a 10 or 20. can you add dist-od on Architect?
i'm not very interested in the other effects, maybe a little reverb. must have od-dist. more tube screamer than metal-brown.
The amp doesn't have a distortion or overdrive as an effect add on, but you can add it to the overall channel sound. It has 2 clean channels and 4 overdrive channels to choose from.
thank you for letting me know
Is this good or the id core V2??? Btw nice video
Hey! The v3 is an improvement on the V2. They've improved it, made the sounds better and stepped the whole thing up.
@@LeighFugeGuitar thank you
What should i buy ? This Blackstar or Line 6 Spider V
Personally, the Blackstar for me, but they are both great!
@@LeighFugeGuitar Thanks sir.
I have one question, can we use noise gate without using architect?
You need architect to enable the noise gate, but once it’s been enabled it will stay on the amp unless you disable it

I'm new to electric guitar and was wondering if the 10 would be enough for a bedroom player? or will it be better to have the 20?
also, which one are you using in the video?
Hey, the features between the 10 and 20 are pretty much the same but the 20 has bigger speakers meaning it as a fuller range of frequencies.
I'm using the 20 in the video. The 10 will also sound great, but it won't have as much low end. But, it'll still be great!
@@LeighFugeGuitar tysm !!
Purchase the Limited edition Candy Skull 10 V3 ID Core!
Get the 20 or 40. 😎
They play fantastic. I have the 20.... but have ordered the 100 😳.
Just love it that much haha
Great video, do you know how I can get the 2000s Linkin park sound ?
Thanks for checking it out! You'd want to use one of the higher gain drive options and dial in a more American style sound so using the ISF control all the way to the left to scoop the mids more. That should get you in the same ball park. I think Linkin Park might have used Mesa Boogie's for their first album - I may be wrong...
@@LeighFugeGuitar appreciate it bro, I subbed to you ;)
Are you getting a lot of hiss when playing with headphones?
Hey Juan, I haven't tried it through headphones but there was a slight hiss when it was just in the room, but nothing too bad. Most small amps tend to hiss a little I find. It depends on the gain level too.
@@LeighFugeGuitarI tried it with mine and as soon as i plugged in my headphones theres hiss even if my volume is all the way down on both guitar and amp. I also tried it with the blackstar fly 3 and its super quiet with the headphones. I'm just trying to see if i need to get this one replace.
@@4sknProductions Hi Juan, I am also getting a lot of hissing, especially when headphones are plugged in... I've read that it's a common issue. Not sure if I'll send mine back... having a fair bit of fun with it but it's pretty much unusable with headphones plugged in so we'll see...
Is this amp available in all countries?
Hey,
It should be. Check with your local Blackstar dealer. If your local dealer doesn’t have it, an international retailer like Thomann should be able to ship it to you!
@@LeighFugeGuitar Thanks for the info, always a pleasure to see your videos
Should i buy marshell mg10 or id core10 v3?
Hey!
Personally, I prefer the ID Core V3, it has more features and I just prefer the sound of it. If you have the chance to try both, I'd recommend trying them out.
The ID Core is very versatile! It can do pretty much anything.
@@LeighFugeGuitar ok thanks dude👍
Hey can anyone tell me what usb type i have to use with this ?
Hey Isaac,
The end that connects to the amp is a USB Mini, and the end that connects to the PC is a standard USB-A.
So you’d need a cable with a mini usb on one side. Hope that helps
Ahh, thanks. I didn't know as the USB type was a little old. But the tones don't compare to the old type. Just superior tones for me....
