    I was not paid for this video but IK Multimedia supplied me with a licence for the MAX version of Amplitube 5. This does not imapct my opinions in any way.
    In this video I will be taking a look at the brand new upgrade for Amplitube. This is Amplitube 5. This is the first major update since v4 came out 5 years ago. IK Multimedia very kindly sent me a licence to check out the latest offering.
    The visual engine has been redesigned to make it easier to build rigs. They've added a new drag and drop workflow which makes it easy and fast to add items to your signal chain and move things around.
    Along with this visual update, there are 129 new models addded including 100 re-recorded and redesigned cabinet sims. There is over 140,000 impulse response measurements included across these cabs to allow you full freedom to use them with different mics, mic placements, rooms etc.
    The flexibility of this software is unbelievable. Check out the free version to get a taste
    AMPLITUBE FREE: www.ikmultimedia.com/products...
    There is also a huge library of amp models from brands like Fender, Marshall, Orange, Jet City, Engl, Mesa Boogie and more. If that's not enough, there is also a HUGE library of pedals to go with it.
    Once you've built your rig, you can use a range of microphones and rooms to craft your perfect guitar space before using one of the many rack units to process your final guitar tone as if you're going into a studio mixing desk.
    This is a huge guitar workstation which allows you to dial in any tone you can imagine.
    The guitar I am using in the video is my Vola Guitars OZ ROA.

    I recently got Amplitube 5 and I've been having a blast exploring all of the possibilities and options that are available. Given that I live in an apartment complex and trying to record my real amplifier would be... Disruptive, to put it nicely, lol, Amplitube 5 has been a godsend to allow me to keep practicing and recording. Awesome stuff. And videos like this are awesome! In my opinion you can never have enough information about software like this, how it works, and how best to make the most of what's provided. So thanks for making the vid!

      I love Amplitube 5, it's such a great plugin for guitar. It has so many options and it's pretty easy to dial in great sounding tones I think. I'm glad you found my video helpful!

      If you’re able to get these kinds of quality sounds out of amplitude, could you let me know you’re setup please? Which interface and computer are you using? Mine seems to sound grainy, thin distant and noisy no matter what I do. Thanks,

      Do you guys think Amplitube is as good as it gets or does one need to research and consider options.

    Very well done!! Most other YT demos think I need to see their extended playing skills, whereas you play just enough to show the product. You have a new subscriber Leigh. Keep up the good work!

    • @LeighFugeGuitar
      @LeighFugeGuitar  3 года назад +6

      Hey Cecil,
      Thank you so much! I think it’s important to show the product in a way that everyone that watches can get on board with. If I watch a gear demo and someone’s doing crazy shred stuff it doesn’t connect with me because I don’t (can’t!) play that way.
      Sometimes a few simple chords and licks can give you all you need to hear something properly!
      Thank you for the kind words! Looking forward to seeing your name cropping up in the comments more often 😁

      Thanks for checking out the video. I'm glad you enjoyed it. The software can do so much. I didn't even really get to scratch the surface in the hour long video. You could spend hours and hours tweaking this to whatever tones you want. It's a fantastic piece of gear.
      The good thing with software is it doesn't take up any physical space, so you can have an entire gear collection without needing storage space!

    I just tried A5. I used to love A4, this was worth the wait. Sounds great!! . Each component has a distinct voice you can work on shaping to taste. I don't normally shell out this much on software, but it was worth it.

      Hey Neil,
      Oh yeah, they nailed it with A5. As you said, A4 was great, but 5 is a huge step up. I think the new speaker IR's make a huge difference, they really start to feel and react like the real amps.

I wanted to show people who are maybe new to software that it's not super complicated to get started which is why I thought it would be good to just learn as I went along.
      Amplitube always make their packages very user friendly and I thought it would be cool to see that even if you've never used this before, you can be up and running in just a few minutes.

    This is a really good video, clear and to the point without the needless guitar showboating, you demonstrate the perfect amount of detail without trying to sound like a technical know-it-all genius, bias or nit-picky unlike others that I've watched who more or less immediately start flipping off the product straight out of the gate simply because they feel the need to call themselves real amp purists and their video ends up being a whinge fest and pathetic.
    After watching your video I think I am sold on purchasing this... btw. it's not very often you get a channel where the owner actual reads through and 'hearts' all the comments. Subbed.
    Great playing and thanks for sharing your video.

    • @LeighFugeGuitar
      @LeighFugeGuitar  2 года назад +1

      Hey!
      Well, first off, thanks for checking out the video and thank you for the kind words. I’m really glad you enjoyed the video. My whole aim with this video was to show people how accessible and easy something like this can be. Yes, if can get super techy, but also it can be really easy to get a good tone without needing a degree in computer programming haha!
      Amplitube is great. I love real amps too, but I truly just enjoy plugging my guitar into anything that makes a good sound. There are things they playing a cranked amp can do that software cant, and likewise software can do things a real amp cant. People need to remember that guitar playing should be fun!
      As for the comments, I certainly read every single comment and at a minimum heart it but I do also try to reply to every comment too. It sometimes takes me a few days to catch up, but I always try to reply. If someone takes the time to comment and interact with my video then I’m more than happy to reply to thank them. Looking forward to seeing plenty more of your comments!!

    • @LeighFugeGuitar
      @LeighFugeGuitar  3 года назад +1

      Hey David,
      Wow, thank you so much man. That’s amazing. I’m glad you enjoyed the video. To be honest that’s my whole approach, I try to just work with brands to make videos on products that I am enthusiastic and excited about.
      Because I don’t want to make videos on things that I’m not into you know?
      I want to shoot videos that I would enjoy making.
      I made a video on the Joe Satriani pack when it first came out, so when they got in touch about Amplitube 5 I knew I’d love it!
      I was considering shooting something with the Brian May pack but there are so many guys out there who can really nail the Brian May thing that it’s almost put me off slightly. Maybe I’ll do one from the perspective of someone who can’t nail Brian’s style haha!

    I love your Amplitube reviews!! Great job showing us around this awesome software. I'm an audio engineer and I've played guitar since 1996 so I should be more familiar with a lot of this gear, but the thing is I just have never had access to most of this stuff. It's overwhelming at first and I find your explanations of the origins of all of the gear (such as the Boston head) and what some of the not so obvious (to me) models are based off of, very interesting and extremely helpful. i.e. I was wondering if there was a Bogner style head in there and now I'm jamming on it. So anyway, thanks for sharing your knowledge and expertise with us. Would love to hear what else you have to say about other gear in the software. And you're a great guitar player as well! Cheers! \m/

      Hey Kevin,
      Thanks so much for checking out the video and for the kind words, I really apprecaite that! I agree with you 100% that is can be very overwhelming, which is why I chose to make the video the way I did... totally out the box. I had experience with previous versions, and other similar programs, but I wanted to show how easy it actually is to just turn it on and make a sound, rather than worrying about needing to create crazy and intense signal chains.
      There is an amp in Amplitube 5 (I'm pretty sure this was one I didn't show in the video...) called the German 34, and apparently this is based on the Bogner Ecstasy. I haven't played the sim yet, or the real deal so I'm not sure how close it is... but everything that Amplitube modelled that I do own, or have tried, has been pretty close!!
      There are so many things in the Max version of this... I feel like I've not even scratched the surface haha!

      Hey Tim,
      Thanks for checking out the video, really glad to hear you enjoyed it.
      That was my whole approach to making this video, to show people who have never used this sort of software before that it can be quite easy to get started. It's possible to go MEGA techy with it and do some crazy things, but there are loads of players out there (Me included) that just love to plug into a good amp and hear a simple tone. I chose to just shoot this video without testing the software first just so people who have never used it before can see how quick they could pull up an amp and dial in a tone they like.
      Hopefully, if you do get this piece of software, this video has helped ease you into the digital world. Not that anything beats a roaring Marshall amp for playing ACDC riffs!!

    Leigh, great in depth overview of the new update. I own and use V4 and I think there's an issue with the audio in this vid. It sounds like you forgot to mute the dry/direct gtr signal either in the daw or perhaps in the interface software. I appreciate the time it takes to produce vids like this but all of the examples don't sound like they should and this is most likely the cuprit.

    • @LeighFugeGuitar
      @LeighFugeGuitar  3 года назад

      Hey,
      Thanks for the feedback. There is no dry guitar anywhere in this video, I even just checked my source audio files. The audio for the guitar track in this video was created by routing the output of the dry track with the plugin to a separate audio channel so it recorded only the effected output. I went over the video in a few places and I can't hear any dry guitar my end.
      Where are you hearing it?
      I'm wondering if you're perhaps hearing the top end of this guitar. These pickups are very bright and sparkly which does have that "DI" kinda sound in parts.

    Model amps are getting good but the main thing I find is the lack of air and how the sound is so direct and hard, which I think needs other plugins to compensate... Getting better though. The pickups in this guitar are the companies own. The guitar is a Vola Oz and they wind their own pickups to suit the guitar. They are very well balanced pickups, I’m not sure how they do it exactly but the volumes are very consistent between them all. Even with the bridge coil split you don’t get much volume drop.

    • @LeighFugeGuitar
      @LeighFugeGuitar  3 года назад

      Hey Ben,
      Thanks so much for checking out the video, glad you enjoyed it.
      For this video, I'm running it in my DAW as a plugin. What interface do you use? I use a Focusrite Scarlett, which has an option inside its settings to reduce the buffer size. The lower the buffer size, the less latency you hear back.
      I have quite a powerful PC so I was able to get the buffer pretty low. Most interfaces have this sort of option where they allow you to drop the buffer size to reduce latency. The interface uses more of your computers processing power to run like this, because it's processing and converting audio much faster than it usually would. You only notice this with plugins like Amplitube because there is a whole other level of processing that needs to take place to the signal.
      As a general rule when dropping the buffer size, listen to it closely. You'll know when you've pushed it too far because the audio will start to glitch and pop, when get to that stage, set it one notch above where it starts to break down. That should give you a pretty stable, and direct sound from the plugin. This would also work if you were using the standalone version too.
      Also, in your DAW, make sure you look at the monitoring options. Some DAWs have a monitor switch on each channel and sometimes this adds a little latency too. If your DAW has "zero latency monitoring", or something similar, thats what you want to click!
      When I was recording, because I was changing tones on the fly and capturing the sound I also had to set things up a little different. I went into my interfaces software and set it up for "DAW" mode which allows it to capture what you hear from the speakers to a separate audio track (I'm sure most interfaces probably offer a similar thing), this is only useful if you're looking to capture the tone changes.
      If you do it on the same track Amplitube is on, you just record a clean signal and the tone is only what you set it to last.
      Hope that helps a little!

You can also use it on a PC, Android or iOS device. Other than that, it uses standard 1/4" jack from guitar to iRig. You can also go from iRig back out to an amp either clean with the 'THRU' switch, or to a cab (or power amp in line on normal amp) and get the output from Amplitude 5 from the amp itself.

    • @LeighFugeGuitar
      @LeighFugeGuitar  3 года назад

      Great question. You don't have to record with this, you can use it in a few ways.
      It works as a standalone plugin for your computer. You'd need an audio interface to plug your guitar straight into which you could run headphones with. When I use it, I just listen back through my monitor speakers.
      If you were going to pair it with an amp, you'd still need an audio interface but you could run it a few ways.
      One way would be to use it as an effects unit only. You could plug your guitar into an interface, run a cable from the output of the interface into your amp and use Amplitube essentially as digital pedals.
      You could also run the output of the interface into the FX Return of your amp. This bypasses your real amps preamp which works well for running amp sims into a real speaker. You'd need to disable to cab option in Amplitube for this.
      I haven't tried either of these methods personally, but they are common ways you can integrate software with a real amp.
      Or.... plug your audio interface and a laptop straight into a PA system!
      Hope that helps!

    Bear with me as I'm not a guitarist but I use A5CS plus RealStrat guitar VI in my DAW. I've never been sure when to use stomp pedals and when to use rack effects as there is clearly some duplication (chorus/compressor etc are available as both). I'm assuming that pedals come before the amp and rack effects are inserted in the amp effect loop? But then, IK allow you to insert either in either! In real life, is the a typical way of choosing which to use? Is there a difference in the tone that is produced? Great video and thanks for the help!

      Hey Steve,
      Thanks for checking out the video and leaving a comment. Great question, as Xilex said, it doesn't really make a difference. It's really just down to personal preference. You may prefer the sound of a rack unit in the loop and a pedal in the front, or vice versa. There is not really a wrong way to approach it.
      There are differences in how effects behave when they are in the loop vs. in the front, but this is mostly apparent when playing through an overdriven amp.
      Things that go in the FX Loop are added to the amp post-EQ/pre-amp, which means after the amps drive and EQ section. This means you take the driven and EQ'd sound and then process it with the FX unit. If you put the pedal/rack infront of the amp, the effected tone goes through the drive/EQ circuit.
      I always explain this with reverb.
      The guitars preamp is your "tone". It's your EQ and overdrive. If you put a reverb pedal AFTER this (By putting it in the loop), you take your guitar tone and put it INTO the reverb space. If you put the reverb INFRONT (Not in the loop) you put the space INTO your guitar tone. It's like EQ'ing and distorting the reverb rather than reverbing the distortion.
      But again, if that's a sound you like, then it doesn't make a difference!
      Hope that makes sense!

    I'd like to thank you.
    Man, you just explained how that software works, and showed us a lot.
    I was talking to a guy from a local band, and he said he was using his computer as the amp.
    I guess I could run the guitar sound through my speakers if I wanted.
    Here, I still want to use my Boss amp, but this solves a lot of problems.
    The software makes you so much more versatile.
    I don't have the money to buy all those pedals.
    My sweetie computer can make those sounds, though.
    As I understand it, I can also get a Metal plug in.
    Is there any danger to a computer if it's exposed to high sound levels?

    • @LeighFugeGuitar

      Thanks so much for checking it out, glad you enjoyed it.
      Yeah the software allows you to access tones and gear that you don’t physically own, or don’t have access too. There’s no danger to the PC running it, your PC speakers will only output the max volume they can and because it’s just a software emulation of an amp rather than a real amp it won’t strain your computer speakers at all

    • @willcastano3529

      There's no danger to your computer at all, I've been using guitar rig (native instruments) since the first version, about 20 years ago, and never went back to use amplifiers again. But as the new GR6 consumes a lot of computer resources, that makes it impossible to work with in a live situation, I switched to amplitube 5 and I'm starting to be happy.

      I would recommend a decent audio interface. one with 2 inputs if your going to use a mic . Lots to choose from at different prices. Some pedals can be used as audio interfaces for example i use a line 6 tt at work which works fine and at home i use a steinberg ur2. I would also recommend some active speakers if you don't already have some.

    This is a good review Leigh, but I wonder... If you launch AT5, is it suppose to connect to the audio interface automatically? I have kind of an issue here. For now I downloaded the Free version (to get to know this kind of music software before getting the full version). So I got my audio interface Focusrite scarlett connected to the pc and when I connect my guitar it works, just the clean sound directly from the guitar sound. But when I start AT 5 I try whatever possible but I only hear the same clean sound from the focusrite through the program. It's like the program is not running . Any idea on this?

      Hey Erwin,
      Thanks for the comment and thank you for checking the demo out.
      I believe it should... As you can see in the video I'm running the AT5 as a plugin via my DAW because I'm recording it as I go... but if I launch the standalone version from my desktop it automatically picks up my interface (Which is a Focusrite Scarlett 18i20) as the main in and output source.
      Are you trying to run it as a plugin? Or just as the standalone application?
      If you're running it as standalone, try opening the audio settings of it and see what it's listed as the ins and outs.

    How could you combine pedals from amplitube 5 with amps from Neural DSP? Would a routing like that be able to work?

    • @LeighFugeGuitar

      Hey Mo,
      That's a good question. I guess the easiest way would be to add them both to a single channel as plugins in a DAW. The Amplitbe first with whatever pedals you want selected with the amp sims turned off, then the Neural DSP after it with the amps on. That should work I imagine.

    I come from using guitar rig (native instruments) for a long time (about 20 years) and as the new version 6 it's a real cpu hog, I gave a chance to amplitube 5 which appears to be better on this and allows me to play live with it with my band (and a lot of sequences in the same laptop into ableton live), the only thing I miss from GR is the ability to have a rack of global effects where you can have some pedals and effects that "affect" the whole set up you have, even when you change different patches, like in guitar rig where you have a noise gate at the input of the program and it works always, I like my guitar to be completely noiseless although the preset I have that time can have tons of distortion, but I see that in amplitube 5 you need to put that noise gate manually in each patch if you want to get rid of those tons of noise that most of half of the presets come with, that's very annoying, specially when you are testing all of them to find one that may fit your needs.
