  • In this restoration of the old rusty screw clamp many techniques are used, including a new one for me, nickel plating. But I also use well-known methods, such as: welding, powder coating, polishing, hot bluing, filing, drilling, grinding and some others more. The special thing about this restoration video is that I make the nickel electrolyte myself.
    ▬ What did I do ?! ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
To take the clamp apart, you only need to remove two rivets, then you already have all the components individually in front of you. In the next step, I put the adjustment part in rust remover, welded the contact part, ground the weld seam and then hot-blued everything. I used a punch to knock out the displacement part. I sandblasted the two clamping jaws and the sliding part. I sanded and polished the sliding part with sandpaper (different grits). Then I welded it back to the upper clamping jaw. To be able to nickel plate you need a nickel electrolyte, which you make by dissolving nickel in vinegar, the vinegar turns green. Then I hang the part in it and nickel it. Finally, the wooden handle had to be sanded and sealed with linseed oil varnish. After the assembly, with the new rivets, one has a new old screw clamp again available.
    ▬ Good to know ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
I used the following tools: Multifunctional tool, pin punch, hammer, rust remover, pliers, welder, welding shield, slag hammer, files, wire brush, propane torch, sandpaper, diamond compound, powder coating equipment, laboratory power supply, lathe, center punch
