How to Begin Making a Cluster Ring

I have never made a 10 outer stones cluster ring before but for the size of my stones and the design idea I have, 10 stones around the centre works perfectly.

I saw a cool trick where a jeweler used old cup burs with sharpened edges to mark stone placement. Just match to the size of the stone and use to mark layout.
