  • Yeah so this is my Journey video of onyx. I've had her 3 months exactly today and I couldn't be prouder to how far she has come! She's come from being a petrified and nervous horse to competing in her first show last weekend and was perfectly behaved and received some lovely comments from everyone there.
It just shows that no horse is completely un fixable, even the wildest most frightening ones! Trust and care is all they ask for and they'll give you their hearts in return.
I've learnt SOOO much from this amazing mare and i think we have been good for each other over these past few months. Thank you to everyone that believed in us from the beginning!
    *UPDATE 2015*
had onyx nearly 2 years now, she is doing amazing and I'm so excited for the future with her!

If I could give you a million thumbs up, I would. You have literally saved Onyx's life. I admire your courage, your devotion, your tenacity and the confidence you have given to a horse that has been ruined by others. I think you have a big future ahead of you. If only every mistreated and misunderstood horse could find an owner like you.

Good for you Hannah!!! I am so happy I came across this video. What a wonderful thing to see when a person sees through the problem to what can be on the other side. She is a beautifully balanced, stunning mare and has made so much progress. I cannot imagine what she endured to make her that way, but we have all seen it before. I am glad she crossed your path so you could show her how life can be. Good for you!!!

Cried when I viewed this. I used to rehabilitate horses in the late '60s/early 70s. Brought back so many wonderful memories. The first time when something 'clicks' inside them and they get it. God Bless you and all others that see the diamond inside the lump of coal.

Wow, what a sensational result of riding and training such a challenging horse as Onyx! Congratulations, Hannah, you are a star to produce such a wonderful horse !!!
May I again confirm, that you did a perfect job, starting from your saying: "nobody knows your horse better than yourself, no matter how new or wild they are." Yes, you came to understand Onyx better than any of those know-all big-mouths, who never rode Onyx but felt they could advise you.
Yes, Hannah, you were right in going your own way - and everything you did was exactly the best to do - mainly not giving up or quitting to make Onyx a great show jumper.
Yes, Onyx was about the biggest challenge a girl could be confronted with, testing her rider whether she could ride a walking horse like a circus high school rider (1:26) or act as rodeo girl on a bucking bronco.
And the result is a miracle: you can ride a very calm and Onyx in the forest bareback. Wow - what an achievement!
Your explanation is revealing: "as long as your horse is comfortable and happy and your moving forward in your progress, no matter how slowly, thats how you get such good results."
Yes, Hannah, that is the right philosophy.
But you are mot only good as a psychologist, but also physically very fir and mentally extremely strong - otherwise you could not have taken falls so easy, never get frightened of that beast, but always continue riding her.
I bet, you are one out of a hundred girls to react like that.
And the future? I hope you will continue in your work with Onyx, will succeed and be proud of her and yourself.
This video is not only the story Rotherhithe Rhian - but very much the story of 97hannahmaria as a very determined horse trainer. Excellent job, Hannah !!! Good luck for the future - and do take care!

Inspirational! I saw that you were doing bareback riding with her. Was that prior to putting a saddle back on her? I have a rescue who excels in bareback, but acts up with a rider in a saddle. Just curious if bringing Onyx back to that raw connection helped you guys like it did us. My head throwing/ crow hopper doesn't do that stuff bareback.

God bless you guys for what you do. It DOES take a lot of work to help a damaged horse come around. They don't trust people, they think everybody is out to hurt them, especially humans. And like it or not HUMAN BEINGS are the MOST DANGEROUS animals on the planet, especially those cruel to these beautiful animals. Thank God there are other people out there willing to work with them and show them not all people are bad.

  • @OneMoreMileAnHour
    @OneMoreMileAnHour 8 лет назад +273

How beautiful. I've had a similar experience; my horse was nowhere near as bad as yours but he was very spooky and nervy when I first got him (actually just very green for his age) and people made similar comments "oh he's an Arab he's crazy" "good luck with that one" "you've got your work cut out for you with that crazy horse"
Thus far in the space of a year I've done dressage, endurance, hunting, cross country and showjumping with him, and yes he's not been perfect every time but he's so worth it! I hate it when people just want a perfect horse straight away and act like they should all just be fine from day one and if they're not it means they're crazy
Well done with Onyx! She's stunning. Is she a Welsh D or Friesian cross?
