If I could give you a million thumbs up, I would. You have literally saved Onyx's life. I admire your courage, your devotion, your tenacity and the confidence you have given to a horse that has been ruined by others. I think you have a big future ahead of you. If only every mistreated and misunderstood horse could find an owner like you.
This just popped up in my recommended! Such a lovely journey, so lovely that you've given her the best chance in life. She's going to jump the moon for you someday xx
popped up in my recommended too! She looks like a great horse. She just needs confidence and to trust you. I know how you feel. My pony Thomas was like that. He is so much better now.
I'm so glad you included the footage of seemingly every fall, it really drives in how hard this is and how much it pays off to keep getting up in the saddle. You two are beautiful!
Thank you Hannah... My first horse was "damaged goods". I had her for 24 years - she lived until she was 36. She taught me how to ride and then she taught my daughter how to ride. Never quit on the horse you love.
I know this was a long time ago but I cried watching this because I just had to give up horse back riding and you are such a great rider and I hope you never have too.
Hannah Marie, you are an inspiration and a very brave lady. Pity there aren't more people like you with your patience, dedication and love. Best wishes to you & Onyx. xxx
No whip, no smacking, no spurs, no straps, no verbal abuse. Girl, you are a great horsewoman! You take your time & go gently with your horse which was all she needed. Thank god no one else had the patience for her because she found a gem in you! And you showed no fear even during all that bucking & messing around. How I don't know. Fair play!!
God bless you guys for what you do. It DOES take a lot of work to help a damaged horse come around. They don't trust people, they think everybody is out to hurt them, especially humans. And like it or not HUMAN BEINGS are the MOST DANGEROUS animals on the planet, especially those cruel to these beautiful animals. Thank God there are other people out there willing to work with them and show them not all people are bad.
I've had my mare for 24 years now and she was very difficult when I first got her, scared and nervous like your mare. But at age 28, you wouldn't know this calm, smart, cooperative and gentle mare was the same horse. I learned SOOO much because of her, like you have. May you enjoy each other for many years to come!
This is an amazing video. I added it to my favorite videos. I feel this horse needed a steady owner and to gain the trust of his owner and he needed love and that's what you did with him. This made me cry. It's like a foster kid who needs a permanent place to live and to be able to have someone to trust and love. You did an amazing job and had patience while u gained this horses trust and love. Thanks for saving him.
dont let people get you down. i owned damaged goods for a long time. a black mare too. she became my best friend and greatest teacher. keep at it. youre doing an amazing job.
Unless you have worked with a horse to earn it's trust and reap the rewards of your efforts you cannot describe the feeling of the end result and the closeness you have with the horse in the end, its a unbreakable bond ...Congrats on your determination , well done and good luck ( will watch the rest of your video's )
I feel for you, all those falls, aches and pains, yet stuck with your horse through it all. Kudos to you on your journey of healing. So blessed is this horse to have someone like you. Godspeed to all horse healers and workers out there.
Good for you Hannah!!! I am so happy I came across this video. What a wonderful thing to see when a person sees through the problem to what can be on the other side. She is a beautifully balanced, stunning mare and has made so much progress. I cannot imagine what she endured to make her that way, but we have all seen it before. I am glad she crossed your path so you could show her how life can be. Good for you!!!
if that's what you can do in 3 months then you will have such an amazing horse in just a year! I am so happy and proud of you guys! you have impressed me to no end!! wow!!!
What an impeccable journey you had with this horse.. and I can guarantee it will just get better and better. I have a TB gelding, exactly the same as this mare, nervous as shit, bolt and rear happy. And I have been told by dozens of people that there's no fixing, he's crazy and I'll get killed. Started groundwork and he's doing super, he really wants to learn. Just want to say thankyou for this video, it really motivates me a lot. :)
What a brave, determined woman!! True grit and I have nothing but pure admiration for you. Thank you for saving one horse out of the tens of thousands ruined by abusive people.
OMG!! You are my hero for bringing that horse around the way you did!! I had a tear mid video and was balling by the end!! Now you have a stunning horse and friend!
God bless you for not giving up on her. You came along at a time in her life when you needed each other most. I was crying as I went along in this video. Happy tears because you both succeeded. It was an amazing story and thank you for sharing.
This brought me to tears. What a lucky mare that is to have would up with this equestrian. This is the kind of trust and teamwork that we all aspire to.
You have done an excellent job young lady. I have spent a career of starting young horses and have had a few like this one and yes you can bring them around as you have done. What a fine job you deserve a pat on the back.
Omg, What an amazing person you are! You gave this horse another chance in life! That horse loves you so much, nothing form that video says she doesn't. Well done for all the work you've done! Xxx
So many people would've given up, and the progress you have made so far is amazing. She always looked like a beautiful mover, but now it's showcased. Good luck in the future with her!
well done for sticking with her - I probably would not have managed it with falling off that much. Great ground work to make her trust you. Hope you have many great years with Onyx
Wow!! This just popped up and I totally impressed with your patience level and you never quitting. I am so glad to see you wore safety gear and I can only imagine the relationship you have with this horse. Well done!! Thank you for sharing!!!
So blessed you are with your beautiful horse! It's true,Hard work does pay of if you truly LOVE what you do! Y'all have become schoolmates together,y'all are truly an inspiration that the impossible is possible! GodBless you and your horse and all those who helped you! I hope to see an update 1 day on y'all! Thanks for sharing your wonderful story! KBJ
you are amazing I wish more people in the world wouldn't give up on horses you could see the fear in her eyes and you recognize that you realize that you have to control her feet before you can control animals and you've done that you are amazing keep up the great work please let us know how things are going the world needs more people like you with a big heart and understanding
U have brought her so far within just 3 months. U are a real horse rider. U stayed with her until she was better. This gave me goosebumps nice job! Keep up the awesome work!!
Its not easy dealing with a horse like this but your patience and perseverance is a real credit to you! And best of all, you have not resorted to martingales, bits, gadgets etc. Well done.
WOW! Finally a horse whose behaviour looks exactly like mine. The careening backwards, rearing, bolting, spinning, leaping in the air... My boy and I have been together for 2 years now. He made huge progress for about 7 months and was becoming a real pleasure. Then, we had a couple of set backs. I had a fall out riding and he bolted on his own, freaked himself out and felt abandoned by me. It's been a chacha since then - two steps forward, two steps back but... I have not given up. Thank you for your post. I feel less alone in this because of your story.
This was the best progress video I have ever seen. You rode her beautifully. When she freaked you stayed calm and gave her rein and she calmed. She always had a glimmer of trust in you, I can see it. Fabulous. Absolutely fabulous❤️
what a great great person you are for giving her a chance. I said to my self, " who did something to that horse" I have been with horses most of my life & words can't express how I feel about you & your horse. keep on riding & thank you. Kim🐴🐴🐴
To achieve this in 3 months is incredible! From you barely being able to get on her without her having a panic attach to cantering calmly hacking nicely, jumping and doing a show! You'd think it would take at least 6 months to so half as much as you have! Cannot wait to see what your future holds!
Lovely video!! Glad you persevered! I wish everyone was willing to love their animals and do what is needed to help them at all times to ensure all lives are fulfilling and happy.
This has only just popped up for me, but for only 3 months the change in her is remarkable!! You've done such a great job and it's great that she had someone that didn't just give up on her again x
How beautiful. I've had a similar experience; my horse was nowhere near as bad as yours but he was very spooky and nervy when I first got him (actually just very green for his age) and people made similar comments "oh he's an Arab he's crazy" "good luck with that one" "you've got your work cut out for you with that crazy horse" Thus far in the space of a year I've done dressage, endurance, hunting, cross country and showjumping with him, and yes he's not been perfect every time but he's so worth it! I hate it when people just want a perfect horse straight away and act like they should all just be fine from day one and if they're not it means they're crazy Well done with Onyx! She's stunning. Is she a Welsh D or Friesian cross?
YOU ARE SUCH AN INSPIRATION!! WAY TO GO, YOU DID SUCH AN INCREDIBLE JOB!!! 3 months and such progress, you are making her life wonderful with an incredible future. congrats!!! This is what i needed to see I'm in a similar situation.
Wow, when I saw this Video I have to think about my lovely boy. He was as scared as she when I First met him🙈 now 2,5 years later He ist the best horse i could ever dreamed of. you could be so proud, I need 2,5 years what you did in just 3 month. good Job👍
Well done on sticking with this horse. I also have a rather over active horse that everyone thought I should give up on. Glad I didnt coz he has turned out awesomely. Well done for ignoring all the people that said to give up. And for being brave enough (I understand that fear) to keep getting back on and finding a way.
Wow, what a sensational result of riding and training such a challenging horse as Onyx! Congratulations, Hannah, you are a star to produce such a wonderful horse !!! May I again confirm, that you did a perfect job, starting from your saying: "nobody knows your horse better than yourself, no matter how new or wild they are." Yes, you came to understand Onyx better than any of those know-all big-mouths, who never rode Onyx but felt they could advise you. Yes, Hannah, you were right in going your own way - and everything you did was exactly the best to do - mainly not giving up or quitting to make Onyx a great show jumper. Yes, Onyx was about the biggest challenge a girl could be confronted with, testing her rider whether she could ride a walking horse like a circus high school rider (1:26) or act as rodeo girl on a bucking bronco. And the result is a miracle: you can ride a very calm and Onyx in the forest bareback. Wow - what an achievement! Your explanation is revealing: "as long as your horse is comfortable and happy and your moving forward in your progress, no matter how slowly, thats how you get such good results." Yes, Hannah, that is the right philosophy. But you are mot only good as a psychologist, but also physically very fir and mentally extremely strong - otherwise you could not have taken falls so easy, never get frightened of that beast, but always continue riding her. I bet, you are one out of a hundred girls to react like that. And the future? I hope you will continue in your work with Onyx, will succeed and be proud of her and yourself. This video is not only the story Rotherhithe Rhian - but very much the story of 97hannahmaria as a very determined horse trainer. Excellent job, Hannah !!! Good luck for the future - and do take care!
Beautiful mare. Has a lovely carriage and gait when she is relaxed. Good job with staying with her and helping her settle and gain confidence. She looks like she should be a wonderful ride with a bit more finishing.
This is a great showing of how a horse can go from the verge of being thrown away to a confident companion and trustworthy! You can see what love and hard, very hard, work can do! Just like dogs there are no BAD horses! If someone is willing to see beyond the bad and willing to love, with patience and hard work.
Cried when I viewed this. I used to rehabilitate horses in the late '60s/early 70s. Brought back so many wonderful memories. The first time when something 'clicks' inside them and they get it. God Bless you and all others that see the diamond inside the lump of coal.
So sad how so many horses are ruined by humans and then declared too dangerous for anyone, only destined for the sale yard. Glad to see there are people out there with the knowledge and patience to get them to trust people again. Thanks for the upload!
Just wow! Incredible. I don't have the words to describe how moved to tears i was watching your video. How strong u were from the beginning- that u never gave up! In my eyes you are a star, to belive in a horse like that ❤ Keep up the good work! Best regards from Elin in Sweden
Wonderful job! I loved the comment "You have made my life but I am just a chapter of yours". Just wonderful. Thank you for your patient commitment to onyx.
Wow, how is she going now? This is beautiful. Amazing what you can do in three months. I love how you give her a loving pat now and then. She needs that for reassurance. You can tell she is very frightened. This is how all horses should be treated. They are not doing anything "naughty" on purpose. You did not once punish this mare for her behaviour, except you provided reassurance so she could trust you. That is amazing, you should probably get into project horses and turn around more lives! I hope you have already done that since this video was 2.5 years ago. You really have a talent there and you are kind, gentle and loving. Keep it up!
Both of these videos brought me to tears. I know the frustration of working with a horse that is very unruly and to work and work and trying to find a way to get to this horse's mind that you are not going to hurt him. You think that he won't get it and your at your wits end then all of a sudden the light comes on and things start to happen. Then you realize that what you have is a partner for ever and all your hard work, frustrations, all the times you were off his back and on the ground have all paid off! That's what made me tear up! The joy that you felt, Hannah, was all over your face!
Your an amazing role model to me people say to me my horse is to strong for me I could never handle him today I got on him and rode no worrys thanks to ur amazing work with never quitting x
You've come so far and you've done an amazing Job to say she's loads better and you've only had her 3 months, she's gonna be a great horse in the future I hope when I'm older and had a few horses I will be able to get a project horse and achieve what you have xx
you gave this horse a second chance which sadly 💔 many aren't that lucky.... you and this special horse have gone thru so much together....you'll have a bond with this horse forever....thanks for bringing up some great memories....
i couldn't imagine a better audio to describe your journey!! i have seen some of your videos of your journey with this beautiful mare but i couldn't have imagined the level of progress achieved in only 3 months! :D she is a real credit to your love and care for horses :)
Ik i don't know u or your horse but i just wanted to say thankyou for not just caving in to the other people and u picked your own path cus now u have a great opportunity to save a beautiful mare
I just wish that it will get better and better... and I think it's so beautiful to see that you and your horse are so strong!!! This is so good to see! I could just cry because i think it s so amazing to see the difference...
I think this is absolutely amazing! Onyx is an incredible and beautiful mare, you should be so proud of yourself at how far you've come. You've done amazing with her, keep up the good work, and she'll be a brilliant horse xx
3 months?! Such remarkable progress! From one horse lover to another keep it up! Work hard to gain her trust and respect and that noble animal, will bond with you as if you were a life long friend. People say horses are crazy, stupid, dangerous, but they just don't know them! I can see in this video you KNOW Onyx! You've built a relationship with that horse and for that I thank and congratulate you, because when everyone doubted you or tried to put you down! You stuck it through! You showed them all what patience and determination can really do, and you have helped Onyx learn to trust again. Have a marvelous 2017! -FlickaMustang
I broke my arm when I fell of my horse. She started bucking and my saddle went of and I fell. But this video just gave me more motivation to keep trying :) I know this is posted like last year, but thank you so much
This is incredible I remember you buying her and i doubted you for a second - then realised what you've achieved with Zak and i've been supporting you 100% I'm speachless You've done wonders You've dug and got out the best in her from the crud she's received - you've broken down her wall
when I got my first horse he was the most crazy horse I had ever seen but now he I am amazing jumper he has won so many show. you are a great rider and great remodel to me and other riders some day she will be a great jumper
Congratulations on staying with your beautiful horse. I have a 15h Arabian gelding who was in the same situation. We've spent two years together working on trails.
you have done such an incredible job with her, you're so talented with problem horses! I can't wait to see what you're doing with her a few months from now if shes come this far in just 3 months!x
What an outstanding rider and trainer--you are bringing the best out of this horse naturally and with patience--you would be welcome to work with any of my horses. Need more kind knowledgeable like you. Beautiful horse/beautiful rider!!
I dont know if i would of got back on that horse after the first fall never mind the 2nd, 3rd, 4th time . You are a brave ginger haired princess... WELL DONE SISTER. I hope the horse gives you many more happy years of enjoyment
Wow, this is incredible. Let me tell you something the people who tell you that you can't you turn around and say you can. I think you are an incredible person and it takes guts to do something that you want so bad but is so difficult to have. You should be very proud. This little horse will be forever great full for you giving her that second chance. You should be proud off your self and what you have achieved. This is an inspiration to many. Well done and I wish you all the luck in the world. Don't give in😘
I'm so proud or your perseverence! You were a good rider when you began but I noticed your riding become more solid as I watched your video. Keep up the great work!
watching this nearly made me cry... your journey with her so far has been tough, but has DEFINITELY been worth it. keep going girl I respect you for never giving up😍💪
wow! watching your journey leaves me speechless.. it's so incredible what you've done and that you never gave up. you've got my full respect for doing so! I'm not sure if I'd have been that brave

Thank you so much! x
Love this, you're a beautiful rider. Thank you for your kindness to her by showing patience. Animals pay it back 1000 fold.
Best regards from Elin in Sweden
what a beautiful mare and how lucky is she to have such a talented and loving lady to be her partner, you are both wonderful, such a great rider
Such a quick improvement !. People like you are my favourite, ones who don't give up and believe xx
Keep it up!
Goosebumps. Really touching what you did for this horse. Respect!!!
I am so glad you never gave up. Well done - she will take you to the stratosphere

Wow, this is incredible. Let me tell you something the people who tell you that you can't you turn around and say you can.
