I went through something similar with my horse. Got so tired of people telling me to sell him, he's not the horse for you, he's dangerous. I also became too afraid to ride for a while and stopped for almost a year. It's been 5 years now and he is an angel and most importantly, he is a happy, calm horse. We have a great bond and I couldn't imagine life without him. So glad I persevered. You are doing beautifully with her. Keep going!
Often watch this video just to see the incredible trust between the horse and his owner. What a partnership. It's such a gift to own a horse that started off knowing nothing but over the years, both of you learn from each other and ultimately you can hear each other thinking! Success at shows is great but so is wandering down a sunny lane in winter. Enjoy every minute with your horse as one day they will be gone too soon.
People see you now and think... I want a horse just like that one...and they have NO idea what you went through to have a horse just like that. Been there. It is rewarding and worth it but very dangerous, takes heart and good trainers to coach. Congratulations
I don't know you, and I don't know your horse, but I'm so proud of both of you!! You turned that horse's life around, made everything different in her world. Many people I know would have given up and sent her to slaughter but you saw the light within her. She trusts you now like she's never trusted anyone before, anyone can see that. Anyone who said the two of you would never make it, ought to take back their words! I don't blame you for being scared, I would have been scared! But you did what many people can't, you chose to work past and discard your fear in order to fight for the horse you loved, and I respect you so much for that
You must be so proud of you and your Onyx! Thank you for letting us watching your training, it makes hope to everybody with a frightened horse not to give up too early.
You are amazing! What a beautiful story and wonderful journey of perseverance and tenacity. The obstacles you overcame were absolutely equal to what she had to overcome. Inspirational! Thank you for sharing!! You are a beautiful beautiful team.
Young lady, I hope you see this comment: always remember that courage -- whatever the context -- is not the absence of fear; courage is soldiering on in spite of the fear. Okay, I've been riding and showing jumpers for fifty years, have taken dozens upon dozens of problem horses and taught them to be happy under saddle -- and I've taught hundreds of children, teenagers, and adults to ride -- maybe thousands even, because for years I taught all the up-downs at a show barn -- and I want you know that you are a truly gifted horsewoman. You've got it. The mysterious 'it' that all riders want and few ever find. You will be brilliant if you keep up the hard work, and when you are older you will look back at this mare as your greatest teacher. I wish I knew you, so I could sit back and watch you grow into the spectacular rider that your could become... if that's what you want... and I hope it is. A courageous rider with the gift... WOW!
Our hardest horses end up making us such better riders, teach us the most & usually end up as our heart horses❣️ I know it's been 5yrs since this video and I hope you two are doing great together 💐
I know you probably won't read this but I'm going to say it brought a tears to my eyes to see how you gave a horse that everyone else had given up on and you came and turned her life around for good, you are a amazing rider and a inspiration to all, defiantly subbed! 💕 x Wish you guys all the best for the future she is destined for greatness!
Bless you, for not quitting with your girl. Having dealt with many very dangerous horses in the distant past, I know what you have been thru and dealt with. Onyx is a success story and it's all because of YOU. ( and the many who helped too) Congratulations and I hope to see more of the travels with this lovely mare. :)
Wonderful good work on this horse and what perfect legs and seat you have with her. That short little extended trot I saw wasastounding. I realize I am two years late to this party, but very impressive. Am happy for you.
You are an amazing young woman! There are no bad horses, just people who teach horses bad things; unfortunately, Onyx had learned only fear. I am so glad that you were able to get past the bad experiences and work with her. She will have a very good life, and we all know how it could've turned out had you not taken an interest in working with her. You have saved a life and now she can be a proud and productive member of the riding community. Through all the tears and broken bones, you were determined and have learned perseverance, patience, and tolerance. I have no doubt that you will succeed in life. Congratulations to you and to Onyx!
Wow! I just came upon your video. You are an amazing young lady! I am in complete admiration for you guts, courage & undeniable love for this horse. A fantastic journey I am sure. Can't wait to see more with you & Onyx.
I'm so glad you didn't give up on her. You could see the fear in the earlier video when you'd had her for 3 mths. To see her here, no fear, willing to do anything for you with her whole heart. Good for you for not giving up and listening to the naysayers!!
+Hannah Marie You are an inspiration to me to see you riding a horse with so many trust issues. But you didn't give up even when you were scared. I am having a hard time finding myself so scared to ride because of falls and broken bones, you give me hope Thank you for your courage and inspiration.
I’ve just watched all your videos and I just wanna say thank you. I’ve taken on a Welsh sec d 12 weeks ago who has a passion to bolt when scared. He was a nervous wreck at the start but he’s coming round very slowly. Your post have definitely shown me it’s all worth while 😊
Well done both of you, two wild hearts. You have guided her well. "There is nothing quite so strong as true gentleness and nothing quite so gentle as true strength."
This is so so amazing! You have done so well with her and you should be so proud of yourself! Onyx is so lucky that you bought her instead of her becoming meat and you can tell that she trusts you so much now. I can't wait to see what the future brings the both of you :) xx
Absolutely amazing to watch how far she's come, how you never quit-no matter how many times you hit the ground hard, you got back up-and how absolutely beautiful she is when she is moving forward with impulsion, engaged and going forward, not upward! That extended trot is just gorgeous, and that mare can jump the moon. You should be very, very proud of yourself and Onyx. She was probably on a fast track to a very bad place. Thank you for never giving up--you are truly a partnership. I rarely comment on anything on RUclips, but you have my deepest respect...I was you 35 years ago, but the ground gets harder the older we get (we don't bounce well, either!) Good job.
this is so nice to see! she looks so happy and the smile on your face in some of the pictures is priceless! you should be very proud of your hard work!! and turning onyx's life around! love your videos and updates :) x
Great heart you have shown to your beautiful horse!! In turn she taught you that you never give up if you just believe. Great teaching her to not be afraid and yourself as well. Very warm greetings from Fairbanks Alaska
And whilst I'm on the subject of proud of you I am, bloody hell Hannah... You've worked absolute wonders with this horse, literally watching this video I didn't believe it was the same horse, shes bloody incredible you should be so so so so so proud, I'm so happy you never gave up on her because all the bad times are so worth it when you watch this back and see how much shes improved! You absolute pair of stars!
I read it all! So touching!! Well done. Beautiful horse. You have learnt so much. One day to help another damaged horse. I tear up every time I watch this! Yeah I have watched more than once!!
I happened to come across your video as I am dealing with a similar horse in the States. Watching your progress is an inspiration to make me keep going with my gelding, so thank you.
This may be 5 years late, but well done, both of you. Onyx is a beautiful horse, long may you both continue to grow in your friendship. And yes, I read all your story, and have watched this and your 3 month video too! Awesome 👍💖🌟
You made such a great choice thanks for saving a horse I stand beside you with everything you chose to do and I love what you said she is such a great looking horse I can't believe anyone would let this horse go to the meat market but you are a hero you saved her and your good doings have really showed she now trusts you good work keep it up
tough little gal no quit in her .you should be proud.i had a horse like that.got here same day she was going to the killers.everone said she was untrainable and dangerous..took a while, but she worked out just fine, had her 18 yrs till she died.best horse i ever had..and as a trainer ive had a lot of horses in 40 plus yrs.
She isn't even the same horse you should be so proud y'all really are great together and I know you have worked hard on her and I couldn't have handled it you truly are amazing
Wow what a pleasure to watch you have done an amazing job with her!! I am so glad you didn't listen to all the idiots that said she wasn't worth it. You should be so proud!
You have done such a good job with this horse, you can tell she trusts you so much and you have done so well. Really inspiring ❤️ Looks like Onyx is loving life with you 🤗 So good you gave her that chance, who knows where she could have been if it weren't for you
love seeing you post again and I think it's amazing how you didn't listen to anyone and kept going and continue to keep moving forward in her progress, she still has a long way to go but with your help she will get very soon Riding Goals
You have turned around her life. Did every thing right, as well. Even taking a step back. It was needed and gave her more trust and confidence in you. Like you said, scared horse and scared rider= disaster. Let the negative comments roll of your back and relish the positive and constructive ones. You are doing a great job and have a horse that will ride to the moon and back for you because you believed in her. Enjoy being together!
This is such a beautiful and persevering story. I can't put into words how amazing you are. You and Onyx will rule the world together, I'm sure of it. Thank you for sharing this amazing story.
Hannah Marie you have no idea how much your journey with your horse has inspired me with my riding& my boys.!!..i am mostly self taught. But deep down inside I know I can ride WELL! and i mean it. I have gone through a very disheartened journey ...but watching your progression fills my heart ridiculously. I have 4 OTT all extremely talented.. All easily able to go 3 star. I have been so afraid to ride in front of people because of negative ignorant judgement I ride in secret, afraid of criticism. I cant afford tutors or to compete, but the happiness and mental balance of my horses it the most important...However I want a great coach to improve my ability...then I can ride with out fear of judgment...and know that I am 'able' deep inside myself and not hide. All the negative, abusive, hurtful comments are a reflection of the people who make them...You are amazing, your work with horses is life changing and I can tell you this from my experience.. My boys thank you!
You go on girl!!! Looks like you and Onyx have come along way. You can go further too! Thank God for individuals like yourself who can see thru all the abuse and keep trying. Its stupid bad people that made Onyx the scared, nervous horse she was. Its people like you that will make her a confident, trusting superstar of a winner!!!! Don't you ever give up on Onyx. You will be repaid for all your efforts, just wait and see. Bless you.
i've been thinking for the past few months about how you guys have been getting on, so seeing this today was amazing! i was smiling the whole way through, you should be so proud of yourself- well done!x
Keep up the good work you are amazing, don't listen to the haters...I read every word of your description btw,my daughter has had a similar experience with her pony(not as bad as yours but close) it has taken her 4 yrs to get where she is now..placing at shows, she now trusts my daughter completely...you will get there ..just never give up❤💕😊
you have done such good work with her!! she looks so good now compared to the photos when she came to you. I admire your determination and I believe you 2 can get really far! :) loved this video.
This is really beautiful. You are a very strong person, this is amazing. I can really feel you, my horse has been abused before I bought him too and it is undescribable hard to train with them and you managed it so well. Great job, both of you. Best wishes from 'Fighter to Fighter'. ❤
so wonderful I'm still working in my confidence issues from a lot of problems and Buck and I'm 62 now and I won't give up I,will keep on till the final breath I have left
I have an abuse case rehab project now, and my heart horse that was PTS last year at age 33 was also an abused horse headed for meat. He was just like your girl!! Man was the road a painful one both physically and emotionally, but he was my everything! My new girl I've had for about 3 years, she's riddled with anxiety and terrified of everything, but we're still on an amazing journey! Some days she makes me shake my head, some days she blows my mind it is always a game of Russian roulette with her as you never know what horse you're pulling out of the field lol! But she will never leave me, she is my forever! Thank God she's got a self preservation brain in her, because she would be way too dangerous if she didn't! But we have an understanding that she's not to kill me and I the same! She is allowed safe meltdowns, and breathers when she becomes overwhelmed. I don't push her until she breaks, we stop and regroup and try explaining it a different way. I don't know what I would do without her, she is just my giant hot mess express 💕
She makes me think of treasure to the more extreme. Everyone hated her but I loved her, she just lacked alotof confidence, but when she was confident she was bold and knew would give her all.
she's going to be a great horse, how easily you could have given up on her and said, there's no point, it's not worth it. But you stuck with her and are becoming something great :) can't wait to see how far you'll come
You have achieved wonders with this horse ❤️ you have taught her how to trust again and overall have done such amazing things with her!!! Well done and yes, I read your description 😉 and it's not soppy 😝
Don't let ANYONE say you can't do something or put you down in the dumps because when you don't listen to the part of the world saying that there is no hope or that you can't make a change in that horse's life something beautiful happens your climb up that mountain won't end there but a beautiful bond will rise up and everyone who said you can't do something will start to be super jealous of what they don't have but you have earned something so great words can't even describe it and you will make a huge difference in that horse's life and no matter how hard life becomes you will always be able to look back and smile at what you did and how far you went to have love and to make a change in both of your lives. All I am asking is that you only listen to the part of the world saying you can do something and that you are a huge difference in that horses life and you will change lots of horses lives trust me on that but only if you believe and work for it. you two are amazing and don't let that change EVER. I didn't write this just as a little joke to pull or for some attention but to tell you that you should NEVER give up on what you believe or what you want because if you fight for it there will be something great and beautiful after time. sorry for so many words but its the truth
I went through something similar with my horse. Got so tired of people telling me to sell him, he's not the horse for you, he's dangerous. So when 2020, how is Onyx doing now? I'd love to see a video of the progress you've made! :-)
You've done an amazing job with her so inspiring to watch and to see that people don't give up and see through the bad to bring out the good
so wonderful I'm still working in my confidence issues from a lot of problems and Buck and I'm 62 now and I won't give up I,will keep on till the final breath I have left
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing.
Congrats girl!! These videos are amazing and love to see the actual connection and bond that grew!!! All the love from Mitchell, Ontario CANADA!
