Great that you managed to spend so much time in Guilin, and actually got time to explore the areas around rather than just the city center and Yangshuo. Oil tea always has a special place in my heart. It was my grandpa's favourite food. He used cook it for the family every week and he basically fed on it everyday. I to the date still miss the oil tea he used to cook, of which the taste was so special and I have never come across the same flavour any more after he passed away. RIP.

Good work - love food adventures ....
Back in the mid 80's for about 10 years I was a Tour Director & dreaded arriving to Guilin and more than once instant noodles was the better alternative. The scenery was magnificent, but the food in Guilin & Xian (except for lamb kebabs) were probably the worst of all cities on any China tour schedule. I am pleased to see that times and the prosperity of Guangxi have changed along with its menus - must go there for a re-visit soon.
