Smart move on the Boss's part to come eat with you. Great marketing move on his part. You did great Amy as always. You have really developed into an international top class professional foodie. Your presentation, style and content is excellent. Extremely well presented and captivating!
Meeting friendly people during the trip will make the trip more interesting and beautiful❤ There is an old saying in China. 有朋自远方来,不亦乐乎?It means Isn't it a pleasure to have friends coming from afar?
Love your videos! I am adopted from China and live in the US. Watching your videos has helped me learn so much about Chinese culture. It would be so cool if you vlogged traveling to Shangrao in Jiangxi province sometime! I would love to see the food from there
As a fellow adopted Chinese person, the other replies aren't useful but I totally agree. I love Amy's videos and the moment that I can go to explore China, it will be really hard for me to decide where to go first
I am Chinese and I only been living in Australia for less than 10 years. I would say every Chinese viewer doesn't go to that many places, know different local cultures and try all those local food themselves. Watch and enjoy :)
I loved your cheers with the tea, both trying to respect the other and place the glass lower. You have made so many friends and the boss was so kind. I wish I was there with you, it looked yummy!
Great that you managed to spend so much time in Guilin, and actually got time to explore the areas around rather than just the city center and Yangshuo. Oil tea always has a special place in my heart. It was my grandpa's favourite food. He used cook it for the family every week and he basically fed on it everyday. I to the date still miss the oil tea he used to cook, of which the taste was so special and I have never come across the same flavour any more after he passed away. RIP.
so early the other two comments haven’t even loaded! 😅 plus that “oh pretty lady! you’re back!” was so sweet 🥺 chinese folk seem so friendly, welcoming and hospitable, especially if you speak mandarin too - taking in all these recs for when i finally go! love the videos amy, sending good vibes and health from the uk 💌
So lucky to meet so many beautiful people in your travels and not to mention the yummy food as well :) always enjoy you videos and look forward to them.
He seems so sweet and knowledgeable. very kind of him to come down and have breakfast with you to explain all the dishes. I can't wait to be able to stop by there to try some
Wow, oil tea is definitely a new one. Seems Chinese people love your warm personality, eagerness to try local cuisines, understand their culture, and speaking and reading Mandarin goes a LONG way!!♥️😺😋👍
Hearing more about mugwort when she describes the aiyebaba and how it's not just some random plant makes me understand better in Avatar the Last Airbender why Iroh's Chinese name includes the name of that plant.
I’ve been bingeing your videos, love them btw, but I cannot get over how lovely all the people are and how they go out of their way to share their culture with you. It saddens me that they might not experience the same warmth in my country. They really seem to welcome you and make you feel part of the family. It’s just so lovely to see, I’ve loved getting to know China a bit better through your videos ❤
I am not jealous. I am NOT jealous. I AM JEALOUS!! (But happy for Amy and thankful she shared with us.) Hoping to find a recipe for oil tea I can make in the U.S.
Good work - love food adventures .... Back in the mid 80's for about 10 years I was a Tour Director & dreaded arriving to Guilin and more than once instant noodles was the better alternative. The scenery was magnificent, but the food in Guilin & Xian (except for lamb kebabs) were probably the worst of all cities on any China tour schedule. I am pleased to see that times and the prosperity of Guangxi have changed along with its menus - must go there for a re-visit soon.
This is the earliest I've caught your video! Love all the snacks that you tried. Love the look of the green tea cakes and pumpkin cake. Youcha sounds very interesting and unique!
12:28 *Amy* The "egg yellow" you refer to is "salted egg yolk" which is ubiquitous in China and has become world renowned among top chefs for it's umami. In the states it's described as a cheese like texture so it appeals to Americans.
Hahaha same to me everytimes I travel alone really hard to order food...everything looks delicious ...btw At airport of Kigali and waiting for the flight back to China 🎉
Since you are in Changchun now, try the 油茶面 or 油炒面there. Other than names, they are quite different from the Guangxi 油茶. Though I don't care about it as a young kid, I definitely grow to love it much more.
We have something similar to the aiyababa in singapore! It's called "ang ku kueh", based on it being traditionally red and in a turtle shell shaped mold ! The fillings are usually sugar and peanuts, or mung bean paste! It's so fascinating the nyonya culture has similar food to the city that you are in!
One of the mechanisms by which chinese tea and this youcha and hakka leicha "cut through the oiliness" and aid digestion, just like (digestif/aperitif) bitters do, is by stimulating bile flow.
So interesting, in Sichuan, youcha is more like congee with pickles and spicy peppers and crispy noodles and peanuts on top. One of my favourite things!
Soup with some tea leaves. Japanese also use (powdered) tea leaves for EVERYTHING, not just tea drinking but also in ice cream, candy, chocolate, bread, cake, and etc. Rice bubbles (puffed rice) and (non skim) milk also has some oil/fat.
youcha is also a thing in the neighbouring province of Hunan, at least the part where it’s close to Guangxi. I’ve tried that in my mom’s hometown there, but i didn’t really like it tho…
After the Mongolians finished off the last remnants of Song Dynasty in southern China, tens of thousands of Mongolians settled there. This way of making tea was brought there by the Mongolians. Mongolians still today drink a similar style tea.
We have the same Kellogs creal in the USA but it is branded Rice Crispy. (edit - all the foods look fantastic and so happy you got to have company for breakfast)
That aiye aba . The mugwort snack. I need to find out more. I believe that is a snack from my mom's childhood that I would love to recreate or order for her TY
Looks like the Guangxi version of dimsum. looks so yummy. I always prefer tiny amounts of many varieties than 1 huge portion of 1 thing, so dim sum is a favourite and this looks good too.
There are two traditional dishes called oil tea (油茶) and vegetable tea (菜茶)in my hometown “Shanwei (汕尾)”,which are kind of like the oil tea in your video.
I've actually had pumpkin cake before in America. At the time, someone else ordered it, I didn't know it was a Guangxi dish. It was good, but mostly tasted like sticky rice with dark sugar with the outside tasted like a Japanese tempura pork cutlet.
Did you finish all of that? Looks like a lot. Gosh! How do you eat so much? Even if you just take a little bit of each. Lady, I salute you. Total respect.
It's similar to out chinese Hakka 'leicha' but more of super green leafy taste and flavor, you should try our Hakka cuisine though, we're spread widely across Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian regions.
Love your show, but I'm sorry to tell you that you've only touched the edge of Guangxi food, 😸but there's no way around it, China is so big, you've done a great job
The boss definitely gives a different vibe, so polite and gentleman

The restaurant owner was an example of how nice people can be.
I think the owner was kind/generous to treat Amy to a hearty breakfast.
The boss is so nice and gentle.
aww the boss is so sweet, chinese people are so kind and welcoming to foreigners
Your display pic is so cute❤❤
Yep,chinese people are very kind and welcoming to foreigners

not everyone thinks in such a strategic manner like you. It could be just his inherent generosity at being a good host.
marketing? #lmao
It bothers me that a generation ago, your comment would be considered an accusation but now a days , it wouldn't.
I dont think that this Restaurant in the middle of nowhere profits form the report of an australian travelfoodblogger, think its pure generosity
@@MrJackal00 agreed
You know you're becoming Chinese when you start calling "egg yolk" "egg yellow".
The boss from the restaurant is really kind to you, Miss Amy, that offered yum cha for breakfast.

Guangxi people are so friendly, from Jason to this boss.

That was such a lovely and friendly place. Wouldn't it be wonderful if all restaurants and cafes had this welcoming vibe.
How nice to see yum cha for one turned into yum cha for two where Amy (🙏 for free) learned something while we learned even more! :D

That’s why I follow your channel. A perspective into the never ending local eats.

The green cake coated with sesames looks really good. I like the fried pumpkin cake too.
it's funny that Amy has started saying egg yellow instead of egg yolk 😂
She's gone "Chinglish"
I caught that too 😂蛋黄
When Blondie said 'I will I will', it's funny to hear that, LOL.
Best food ambassador on RUclips. What better way to connect different cultures and people than through food.
有朋自远方来,不亦乐乎
The boss is so gentle. BTW, "You" and "Rou" in Guangxi accent sound like the same, lol🤣
Greetings from a Changchun'er living in Dresden👍🏻
The boss examplifies what chinese hospitality is about. It's normal Chinese culture.
Dreaming of the day I can visit China again when everything settles down!
Soon you can 😊
Wow this looks so tasty 😋 I’m so glad the travelling situation is much better now so I can easily travel there soon :)

Speak Chinese very well, with North Accent. 东北大妞 👍
Wonderful! Thanks!
Yum yum - the oil tea with snacks, sounds like a great breakfast.
So glad to see you enjoy your trip to Guilin and hope to see more videos about Guangxi😍
That oil tea is very popular and famous breakfast in China!
TIL: Rice Krispies are called Rice Bubbles in Australia
Hot tea helps to break down the oiliness and heaviness of the food so you can eat more. Also serves as a great palate cleanser between bites.
First time I hear of "oil tea". Sounds very interesting. Must be unique to the province of Guangxi.
youcha is also a thing in the neighbouring province of Hunan, at least the part where it’s close to Guangxi. I’ve tried that in my mom’s hometown there, but i didn’t really like it tho…
In other provinces of China, like Shaanxi and Henan, we have a dish with the same name “ oil tea”, but completely different thing.

If time permits go to 恭城县, that's the birthplace of 油茶. Or, when you're back in Yangshuo go to 小油条, that's the most popular 油茶 place in Yangshuo!!
Thanks for your introduction to China from your view.

桂北打油茶在德国知事那里看到过,恭城油茶。
