I saw an interview with Jerry Garcia who was in Vancouver and caught Chilliwack playing in a bar. He said they were the best live band he had ever seen.
Incredibly impressed they could hit that modulation at 3:19 live...Bill Henderson had a great voice, and that whole band was woefully underappreciated, at least here in the states.
Still looking, but this is the first live clip of this song I've found on RUclips. Was wondering if they could replicate the intricacies of the harmonies live, as well as the entire arrangement. What was so well-produced in the studio is wonderfully performed here! Standing O!
Remember being a new immigrant child from Jamaica and heading this song 1000 years ago. Loved it ever since. HUGE part of the soundtrack to my life!!! 😱! THEY SOUND INCREDIBLE LIVE!!! Just heard it on the radio and figured out the cords in my head as it played... Then wondered why I never learned to play this on my guitar. That solo is so delicious! I'm a heavy shred guitar player, but can always appreciate great guitar.
These guys really had a great live presence, not even queen could have complex vocal arrangements live like at 3:19 . That is Beach Boys level . Severely underrated unfortunately.
Came across this video, and was curious how it would sound "live", like in the real world, and it sounds great, just as good as the record. Great song and vocalist.
Pure maestros! Let me add that we played the shit out of this record in the Summer of 1981 on 92.3 WLYT Cleveland. The listeners loved it and so did the jocks on our station. Chilliwack was WACK!!!
One of my all-time favorite songs! As a drummer, this tune stopped me in my tracks when I first heard it in 1981 - the swinging hi-hat barks and deep groove that Brian Macleod provided - just fantastic! He played a similar part on "She Don't Know" that rocks too. A fantastic song - and band. Thanks for sharing this.
No problem...Brian was an awesome talent..Hard to replace!! That's me on 2nd guitar doin' my best..I knew Brian well when I played in the band before the "trio" recorded this too...'79/'80... Played some amazing gigs...
One of my favorite 80's hits. I had to call the local rock music station in San Juan (Puerto Rico) in the late 90's and sing the gone gone gone part so the DJ could tell me the band's name!! That way I was able to buy the CD online. Love the sound of this live presentation.
Definitely better than the record! Solo sounds way better too. I've been listening to Breakdown in Paradise lately and I actually think it's my favourite Chilliwack album. It's so funky and well done
Hey Alex....In case you are unaware..The man who commented above.. John Roles.. is the lead guitarist in this video..haha. I agree as well.. the solo is fantastic. Thanks John!
Alex! Good to hear from ya!! Not sure I'd agree with "best ever" but it's pretty fair ! (only one original member!!) from the record anyway!! Hope all's good with you buddy! John (who else?) :) Solo at the end not too shabby, but Too Loud really kicked butt !!
Hey John. Just discovered your channel. I live on the same island as Bill and have had the honour and great pleasure share a few stages with Bill. He is one awesome human! Thanks for posting
John - You mention that you "copied the main solo".May I inquire as to originally played that solo on the record?I woulda bet the farm that it was you on the record as your guitar work in this video is spot on! From that slightly edgy tone to the chops you display and even that little "squeal" added at the beginning of the solo shows how good you are.Loved it!
The vocals are impressive. Love this song & the harmony is AWESOME!!!
Though B. MacLoed is gone (in a better world) Chilliwack rocks on, and is forever one of the greatest canadian bands. Enjoy...

First time I heard this live performance. They nailed it.
Yess! Done 2023...
To this day, one of the coolest songs of all time.

Fantastic live performance! I loved this song as a kid learning guitar. Vocals from heaven, a great groove and fierce guitar and keyboard tones!
This live version of the song ROCKS! 🤟🏻

that's funny!! I have always appreciated the bass and drums on this track They are restrained but drive the song masterfully.
See how many musicians it takes to pull off this great song live?
Miss Brian but one of my fav bands from back then👍

woah better live at Whispers than the original release video, thank you! And from my old haunt at Whispers when we were all 30, lol

I never knew Lou Ferrigno fronted a band!😁
I assume that's the same Claire Lawrence who was in The Collectors and the first Chilliwack lineup.

Brian McCleod
That's his mic now
LOL 😂
🎵🌌⏳
Slightly amused it takes three guys to cover everything Brian MacCleod did on the original version.
