I love Harvey Birdman. It’s so insane. In the first episode of the series Race Bannon ends his longtime association with Dr. Benton Quest and sues for custody of Jonny and Hadji. Harvey, as always, takes the case.

I get asked a lot about whether being a practicing attorney is like being a lawyer on TV. I love watching legal movies and courtroom dramas. It's one of the reasons I decided to become a lawyer. But sometimes they make me want to pull my hair out because they are ridiculous.
Today I'm taking a break from representing clients and teaching law students how to kick ass in law school to take on lawyers in the movies and on TV. While all legal movies and shows take dramatic license to make things more interesting (nobody wants to see hundreds of hours of brief writing), many of them have a grain of truth.
This is part of a continuing series of "Lawyer Reaction" videos. Got a legal movie or TV show you'd like me to critique? Let me know in the comments!

Objection: You are just wearing shorts underneath your suit!
Objection Does LegalEagle have a supervillain rival? Also Power of Attorney should be his new catchphrase.
yes yes yes one of my favorite show's ever i really hope you do more Harvey Birdman
Heck yeah, I hope to see another. This show was one of the best.
Not quite an objection, but how can Legal EAGLE not be well versed in bird law?
Well his legal beagle isn't a beagle so there's that.
He isn't Charlie Kelly , that's why.
Objection! That's speciesism, that is. An Eagle can't specialize in mammalian law?
Truly only charlie has a true expert grasp on bird law. its far too complicated for mere mortals.

They keep saying sharks aren't fish. Now are they going to tell us that eagles aren't birds? I knew this was a slippery slope.

Eagles can practice other areas of law!
Objection! "Eagle" could be a reference to the other definition for an eagle
"A gold coin formerly used in the United States, stamped with an eagle on the reverse side and having a face value of ten dollars."
Objection: "Lizard Man" committed purgury. He was asked his name he said it was "Lizard Man" but his peers referred to him as *Bill*
This is what makes the joke extra funny.
HOLD ON...while a viable question of fact, "Bill" may only be his STAGE NAME with other Lizard Men, and not his actual legal name of "Lizard Man" which I assume comes with a Henchman number to differentiate, such as- Lizard Man 4304. In short...we will have to do discovery on this issue.
Bill could be his nickname. It could be a way for the nonlizardmen to tell them apart.
wait if the lawyer asked my name, and for the sake of argument my name was john, but I went by bill (for some reason), and than I gave my name as Bill not John...is that Purgury?
Did you mean purgatory or perjury?

Objection: Harvey Birdman: Attorney At Law is not a kid’s show. It was featured on Adult Swim for late night viewers rated TV-14.
Some people would consider 14-18 as still being a kid, and so could be considered a "kids' show".

Who would’ve thought Harvey Birdman Attorney At Law turned out to be one of the most accurate legal shows out there 😂
BIRD-MAN is a superhero. His secret identity is mild-mannered lawyer Harvey Birdman. How hard is that to understand.
According to the lore of the show superheroes fell out of fashion and a lot of heroes and villains became layers so they could still fight each other more or less.
@@darkmyro Lol that sounds awesome
He actually retired from the superhero life and switched his career into law.
He said being a superhero was too tiring, in a monologue in a later episode.

@@SergAI And he probably covers their damage lawsuits after conducting intergalactic battles with superpowers within New York city limits. Which is the same kind of thing that caused a certain masked vigilante to fight another, superpowered vigilante after a similar situation also involved multiple superpowered individuals within Metropolis city limits.
Feel free to cover every case on this show... this was fantastic!
Objection! As hilarious and well-timed as the judge's exclamatory "Bootylicious!" is, that is clearly flirtation and/or sexual harassment directed at Harvey Birdman in a court full of witnesses. If the court stenographer was more competent, someone could make a motion of clear bias toward one lawyer based on his bootylicious booty and say that the judge is impartial. Thus, making a retrial inevitable, giving time for the supervillains to construct a more discreet robot to take custody of the kids.
But at the same time... can what the stenographer say or have typed be even legally valid due to that it was a person impersonating a stenographer?
But he also called him Mr. Buttermilk and got opposing council's name wrong several times. I'm not saying that a pattern of malaproprisms alone dispproves sexual harassment this one time, but it could support a defense against this charge.
@@g.wilson536 Then we would need another form of a record of the trial. I wonder if this would result in the trial have to be done over. Also, there were many other witnesses besides the stenographer.
Then we need to get a judge that can remember the damn names of the lawyers arguing the case. Imagine getting the court notes, and seeing several different lawyers were addressed that weren't at the top of the notes. It would be very disorienting figuring out who said what, who was possible flirted with/sexually harassed and which arguments are actually pertinent to the case. I mean, I know that everyone in this show is a bird brain, but I would never want to be the court stenographer for the case.
I think since Harvey was hunching over to follow the wire his booty was sticking out and the judge couldn't think of his name but "Bootylicius" was close enough kinda, like calling Alexa Eleanore
"Is it Bird-man or Birdman?"
Me and the show: Yes.
It's pronounced "BIIIIIIIIIRRRRD-MAN!!!"
This is correct actually. As Bird-Man he is given his powers by the Egyptian Sun God Ra and becomes Bird-Man. This character is kind of an alias in a way, because you have to practice law under a "real" name, you couldn't just be Superman, Attorney at Law for example. So when he needed a name it was like a "Har....vey. Bird, man? Yeah, yeah, Harvey Birdman..." Kind of thing
*BANG!*
Friggin' smartass.
i honestly don't see or hear the actual difference 🤔
"That guy could get disbarred."
Understatement is apparently another power of attorney.
Professionals err on the side of conservative estimates.
He is a supervillian. Probably either bribing or blackmailing the bar. And god knows what society is like in a world of super people; there could be sympathizers or just plain supervillains on the bar along with superheroes and they are all playing politics and trying to avoid the nuclear option. "We'll let Vulturo off if you let 'generic superhero' be barred" or something. Organized crime in the real world plays a lot of political games like that because fighting and gang wars are honestly pretty bad for everyone involved.
I feel like that's the premise, not a plothole
2019: wearing mask in public is loitering.
2020 wearing mask in public is practically mandatory.
a mask just covering your eyes and forehead I think would be the inverted of what's mandatory

A lot of people who watch this channel are older than the content creator.
I think he's misinterpreted this as being the original show. They used to run reruns of ancient 60's era shows on early cartoon network, and this guy looks to be too young for the original run but maybe a bit old to be a "kid" circa 2000-2018. Guess it depends on how you interpret "kid".
@@Doc_Fun Thank you for clarifying the situation (the fact that the Adult Swim show 'works off' of those older cartoons can make things confusing when people think, for instance, that the first instance of Johnny Quest was in the 21st century.
....but did you have to call the original shows *ANCIENT*? Jeez... ;)
Objection, Harvey birdman attorney-at-law is not a kids show.
Yes, the show aired late at night on the Adult Swim block on Cartoon Network, which should have been a good tip-off as to the intended audience. A failure of due diligence or something there, Legal Eagle.
Johnny Quest was a kid show never heard of this show.
Technically he never claimed it was a kids show, only that he watched it as a kid. :P
Does "Kid's show" refer to the target audience or the style of presentation? I don't believe "Kid's Show" is a technical term that carries with it the same meaning as "Children's Television Series." One could make the argument that "Harvey Bird-man: Attorney at Law" is presented "in the style of a Kid's Show" and Legal Eagle was using "Kid's Show" as a short-hand for this stylized presentation.
@@Lemegeton300 Actually he does call it a kid's show at 17:45. In the early days of adult swim, the stuff was tamer than it is today albeit with more innuendo and a drier sense of comedy.
I think “Dabba Don” is quite simply the best Harvey Birdman ever - not much courtroom drama but would still love to see you cover it!

Great episode of one of my favorite series!

The Simpsons "Bart Gets Hit by a Car"
The Simpsons "Krusty Gets Busted"
MY GRANDFATHER WOULD BE ROLLING IN HIS GRAVE if they didn't stuff some veteran in it.
Marge's trial. Lionel Hutz at his best
