    This is great for learning hand and eye skills in modeling, but it's easier if you use the world space origin and the coordinate entry fields for XYZ at the bottom of the screen. Simply build around the X axis as the centre line, select all the keel line (centre) vertices, choose the Move tool (W), go to the X field and type in 0, or even easier, right-click on the up-down arrows next to the field. Hit return to confirm the Move. This works well with Symmetry Modifier.
    For an alternative to this method, see one of the Make a boat using Loft; all the visual judgement is in plotting the Spline profiles.

    "Create Shape From Selection" - very convenient button. Select a face, pressed the button, and creates a precise line for this face. And do not have to manually line the edge of the object to pull.
