Good team effort. My wife and I are the same way. It makes life easier when you are married to your best friend. Love the videos. Happy Thanksgiving. Stay warm up there.
Mike, you make it so easy! I have never split firewood that easy. I chuckled when you told Melissa to "hurry up". Piper is a big lap dog and loves Melissa!
Nice! I'll be swinging the ax this year as well. I don't have a splitter, and I'm installing a wood stove for heating. Power bill was way to high last year for heating. I live out in the country and wood is free 😁 It's great to see that hubby/wifey working together. Wonderful to see those kinds of interactions in this crazy world. And even Piper! 💕🎉🐕
Looks like that Fiskers splitting axe works really well . Wife and husband working together, nice . That Piper is a smart dog . She backed right up when Mike said " look out Piper " . Another nice video . 20 minutes .
The dog when you first started splitting is the best part of the video. Watching the axe go up and down, taking steps back each swing... and then gets bored and walks off to find another adventure. Lol
Mike, from this sidee of the ocean / merry old Germany: Suggest for safety reasons to not swing the axe in direction of Melissa and Piper. A 90 degree angel to both would cost nothing but you would gain an extra safety range. I work and like this typ of axe very much. But when it is sharpened well is is a weapon. My wife watched this too and enjoyed it. She and I just did a cord+ for barter and she really enjoyed that. But we did use the Craftsman 27 ton splitter. And she unloaded it all when we got there. It was her idea. What a gal! Thanks for the bit on your dog. I believe that certain critters were meant to be pets, and it's no wonder they are good family members. I have an 8# maul and the same Fiskars splitting axe you used, in addition to the hydraulic splitter. And around here we have very knotty ponderosa. So that advantage is golden to us. But the local favorite wood is lodgepole pine. We don't have a lot of hardwood unless a tree dies or a construction company takes out an oak for example. My time guess is 40 minutes. You two were really going at it!
It seems we like the same things, I guess its a PA thing. I end up on your videos a lot , thank god Melissa is easy on the eyes. lol Sorry Mike but I am jealous of your toys and especially your farm. It is nice to see some good people own such a beautiful farm. Thank you
I will say 18 minutes. An axe is faster, but i can't split all day with an axe anymore, but the log splitter sure helps with that. Either way having a good helper makes for more production and a more enjoyable task. Thanks for the video.

Hi from Oz. I used to split firewood like that by the 5x6' trailer load. I didn't do it for a living as I just wanted to clear up all the fallen timber I had. It was very old, large diameter (500mm up) and as hard as nails and many the time the hint of a knot or branch would literally have my block splitter bounce off. The angle of the blade on my splitter wasn't as acute as yours which I liked as I noticed yours sticking in a couple of times. You call them rounds but we know them as billets and because they were so big I always worked the edges. My man toy on my property was big old JCB backhoe. Best toy I ever had. I tried ever so hard to plant that thing in various bog holes on the property but became an expert at walking it out on the buckets instead. I had some remnant stumps about 2 meters in diameter that had the notches cut in them for the ax men's planks from another era still standing on the property. Another curiosity from those days was a large hollowed (naturally) log used as a culvert pipe on one of my creek crossings. A tip for you is logs make excellent culvert crossers or small bridges. Dig out your ditch over a road, notch out the banks deep enough to take the logs you want to use and then lay your road base over the logs. I actually worked at a modern mine that used this method on their mine site using timber from the site. A funny story to me but not my neighbor was the day he came across with his tractor to collect a log I said he could have and he broke his tractor completely into two pieces trying to move it. He's never had that much happening between his legs even to this day. The log was easily 3' diameter and about 40' long and I had no idea how he was going to move it. Anyway my 20 acres of heaven has gone now but I left it as nature intended. It was just north of Brisbane and I didn't have a deciduous anything growing on it. I can't get used to the difference at your place between the seasons.
Great times.. I only had a fireplace for 1 year and i grabbed wood everywhere, every weekend. .my neighbors would say you're going to be so thin come fall..not quite the case.. That sawing, chopping, carrying and stacking builds a mean appetite. .i was solid musles all tightened up, but not an ounce did i loose.. Nice to have so much equipment. I would eliminate as much bending as possible. . great videos .

Nice to see the two of you working together, seems like that too is disappearing.
I think team work is so helpful in wood splitting. My wife helps me by loading the logs on the wood horse and then I chainsaw it. After that she splits to small stuff into kindling and I use a $20 axe to split the larger stuff into more manageable logs. My axe is amazing because it's so cheap. I wanted a Fiskars when this one breaks but it keeps going. They say burning logs keeps you warm three times over; once when you cut it, once when you load it and bring it indoors and once when you burn it. Good video keep it going. Where do you live?
