Thank you for posting. I had a very very hard time getting the light off the driver's side. It was not as simple as you showed. I pulled and even hit it with a rubber mallet multiple times and harder than I thought I should. It wouldn't budge for about 15 minutes. After praying a lot it finally came off.

Thanks, Blu! Watching your video earlier today made it a CINCH to replace the lower and HI brake lights on my wife's Odyssey. Right now, I was able to get the 921 (high-mounted) and 7440 (both Sylvania Long Life 2-packs) bulbs for the online price of $2.02 and $3.47!!! If you go in and have searched out Wal-Mart's online price--just show it to customer service (I was able to do it in the auto section). The regular prices are $5.99 and $4.48, so I grabbed TWO of the 7440!!! Autozone wanted something like $7.99 for the 7440. Now, my family can ride around MUCH more safely!

If you put an LED 3rd brake lamp, it has polarity. If it doesn't work, turn it around and try again.

Thank you. I got pulled over tonight and I told the officer I am headed straight to autozone to buy new tail lights and they will be replaced tonight. He actually followed me most of the way. I was not joking. It beats getting stopped again!!
This was harder than on my old hhr but really easy when I saw how it was done so we replaced both sides at the same time. I spend more time replacing lights in this dam van than I do washing it!

    Thanks for the video!
The left brake bulb was actually 7443. Not 7440. The auto store told me 7440 is single filament, and 7443 is dual. I checked the bulb that came out of my Honda, and it was 7443

2:00 The recommendation for using gloves to handle light bulbs only applies to high temperature quartz halogen bulbs. It does not apply to glass bulbs.

Thank you for addressing the LED aspect of the tail light. My 2014 tail light is different than every other video I've seen that shows two bulbs without the LED part. So mine is the same as yours. It must have changed when they did the 2014 minor update to the Odyssey.

I found it very informative. I changed the Brake lights myself after watching. It save me a few dollars, and I don't have to go to the Dealer or Maint shop to replace them. Thanks.😊😊👍👍

It’s 2021 & this is the 1st time a bulb has had to be replaced. A lot of dirt/grit has built up along/inside the seam coming down from the slot. Wiggling the cover didn’t work. (It did wiggle loose where screws came out). We used a very small flat screwdriver to help pop the cover off. Be very gentle working it down the seam so you don’t scratch the paint. Make sure you wipe off the area along the panel & cover meet to eliminate the dirt/grit.

Hi, thank you for this video, it was very helpful on how to get to the bulbs. The 2012 model actually only has 2 bulbs on the brake/turn signal assembly. So instead of 7440 bulbs, 2012 owners should be looking for 7443 bulbs.

Thanks for the instructions! On my 2013 Honda Odyssey, it was _really_ hard to pull the light fixture off of the back of the car (shown at 1:23 in your video). My teenager and I pulled and pulled and nothing happened. Then we realized we weren't pulling hard enough. The black rubber pegs that hold it to the car body can be quite tight.

The lens does not pop out easily, unless it's been out before. On my 2011 Odyssey it was extremely hard to remove. I finally got an approx 1/2" plastic rod (to not scratch the paint) and put its tip against the *outer* forward edge of the lens assembly. Right where your left thumb is at 1:28 in the video. On the edge of the red plastic - *not on the black plastic* deeper in the channel / closer to the car body. Then I hit the rod with a rubber mallet until the lens popped out. If you seat the rod too deep into the channel, on the black plastic seal / support piece, you'll break that. Don't ask me how I know this. I put some lithium grease on the snap-in pins so maybe it will be easier next time.

They make a tool for that. It’s basically a plastic wedge that you use to pry it out from the back side of light assembly where it meets the body.

There are two push-pin clips that cause the resistance you're feeling. You'll need to wedge a PLASTIC trim removal tool between the headlight case and body, and carefully pry it toward the back of the van.
