I use a speeder handle with a ⅞" deep socket, a rubber mallet for the tapping of the clamp, and I put the big O-ring gasket in place before I insert the filters. I also close the inlet valve after I turn off the filter before I open air release valve, you just need to open it before you start the pump
First of all, thank you so much for the very helpful tutorial. At 3:46 in the video, you're using an attachment on the hose to clean the pool cartridges. What exactly is that attachment called and where can I order one? Once again, I sincerely appreciate you making the extremely useful video. :)
@@VIPPoolsandSpas Thank you so much for taking the time to respond back. I sincerely appreciate it. I went ahead and placed the order a few days ago and it arrived today. I hope it solves the issue with thoroughly cleaning my pool cartridges. :)
Great video. Follow what this says exactly. I opened my pool twice the last 2 years and only thing I did differently was tapping the metal band on the filter with a rubber mallet repeatedly all around as I tightened the nut and then brought spring to near touching as recommended by Pentair. I was leaking water twice from filter gap when I didn’t follow these 2 simple steps. Make sure to clean and grease any rubber gaskets lightly as recommended in this video! That includes the drain plug at bottom of filter. That one always seems to leak on me if I don’t grease it. Again, thanks for a great video!
Does this filter need diatomaceous earth added? I couldn't find anything in the manual but my dad said every filter needs a media added always. I just cleaned my filters over the weekend thanks to your video! Now wondering if I need to add DE...
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and giving back ! One item i see is not to bang any tool on the threads, maybe put the nut on a couple of threads then tap?
Thanks. About the Thread thing. lol I hear about that part all the time. I can't carry every tool all the time. I use what is normally in front of me. And after 30 years. Never had an issue with those threads. But I do understand what your saying. Thanks again for watching.
Hi, on your video time marker 4:54 ,what is that top called? Also, what does it help with? Mine broke and want to know if the filter will be ok while it on, without that cover. Thanks for your video! It helped a lot !
Hi what is that tool called that you were using to loosen up the black clamp? First time pool owner and I don’t know much about tools but will give it a shot cleaning it on my own 😬
This video helped me today! Our drain plug has the yellow ring but it's not as bulgy, looks more like a bevel. What is the p/n, please? The manual shows a part with a separate o-ring.
Thanks for this video , just finished. You weren't kidding about putting the clamp back on, mine kept slipping off completely. One thing I would add to this video is when starting your jets your filter should already be open from earlier when you let the air out. When the filter starts gushing out water, close it and you are done.
If the Nut, spring or washers look beat up or old, I would get new ones. Also. put grease on the threads of the bolt (on the ring). If there's something in the video you would like to see or maybe I didn't explain it very well, leave us a comment. AND. YES. I should use a Rubber Mallet when I'm banging on the strap.

Thank you. Very clear explanation. Still learning and waiting for a sunny day to venture into the depths of my filter for the first time… Any recommended type of grease for the big O-ring? Cheers!
Thanks for watching. I do have a link in the video description for the grease. But you could use and buy any pool or hot tub grease meant for orings. Just for pools and spas
Great video. Just got rid of sand and went to cartridge. You make cleaning look easy. Not blowing a hundred or more gallons into the street during backwash will be a relief. In Southern California people get touchy about that.
First time pool owner..the last step, once the pump gets going and you let out the air out and then you close it when the water comes out… Do you do that step every time you turn it on? Or does that only need done when the filter is taken apart?
All depends on the amount of debris being filtered. The more stuff is in your pool getting filtered out, the faster it will get clogged up. Just keep an eye on the pressure on the filter.
I cleaned mine for first time and put the spring on wrong between the metal straps then i refered to your video and boom it was done right thx dude i had algae and had to rinse the filters which is a must
This might be a silly question but how should one fill it back up with water? Like, if we open it up and drain the water, do we will it back up with water before putting the lid back on, or does running the water pump do it naturally?
what is the purpose of the stem with with the screen on it? I know that it's an air bleeder assembly. I dont know exactly how it relates to the air relief valve on the top of the tank though... thanks
Its to pull air trapped. I know that there's the air bleeder on the outside on the top, but this helps when air does get sucked in from the pool skimmer. It helps when your not standing there to do it yourself.
@@VIPPoolsandSpas thanks that helps a lot they are always plugged up nearly every time I pull a tank apart. I can't help but think "okay what's the point?" lol

@@domgarcia5705 Debris is getting to the filter some how. Look at anyother suction from the pool to the pump. Eg: main drain or side suctions. Look at the basket at the pool pump.
