  • Pentair Clean & Clear® Plus Cartridge Filters have a large filter area for increased dirt capacity, and if the pressure gauge shows that the system is running at 10 PSI higher than its starting pressure, it is time for a cleaning. To ensure your pool cartridge filter is cleaner, you'll need to watch this safety video and gather a few tools before diving in.
Be sure to consult a pool professional before performing maintenance or attempting pool filter cleaning on your own, or call a servicer outright if you're unsure of how to clean a pool filter. The new one-piece trunnion on the clamp (the part the bolt goes through) is superior to the old design. THANK YOU for addressing this issue.

Great instructions and good safety procedures. Very appreciated. Everything went as planned. Only thing I would add is use long-sleeve shirt. Fiberglass tank is itching my arms. Other than that, well done.

What position should the handvalve be when the pump is on

Last time when I attempted to clean the filters, the cartridges came out with the bottom manifold. After I washed the cartridges, I wasn't able to push back the bottom manifold where it was. The O ring prevented that. I tried to push harder, still no chance. What shod I do?

You made it look to easy- everything seemed good except your shortcut on the drain valve. The drain valve on bottom has 2" x 3" rounded nut with a 5/8 nut in middle.Which one do you actually turn, and is it counter clockwise? Both are more than hand tight, so I am not sure. My guess is the bigger one, but I'll need a strap wrench.

      Hi Mark,
The drain valve has standard threading and will loosen when turned counter-clockwise. You may need to use a set of channel lock plyers to loosen the drain plug. We recommend cleaning the O-ring on the drain plug to ensure there is no debris on the mating surface of the bottom of the filter or the threads the drain plug threads into. You may also want to apply a small amount of a water-based lubricant on the drain plug and hand tighten it.
