Lemmy's part in overkill is the most demented and ridiculous bass part in any song recorded. And I mean that as an absolute praise, you can't create anything heavier and more badass.
No question. What’s that quote? “Just cos he’s playing power chords doesn’t mean he ain’t as fast as anyone else.” I also love how he’s like 58/59-60 and he gave one of _the best_ performances in his life on this one. I love his 80’s vocals on stuff like the Birthday Party but this set was killer. Top 5 versions of Overkill, for sure! A lotta stuff I didn’t like post Würzel. This one is really refined.
Too bad the man who makes them is a fucking tool. For as long as I live John Hall will never get my money, I'd sooner buy a chinese copy. edit: somebody liked the comment and i got a notification just to tell y'all i did end up getting a japanese aria pro 2 rickenbacker copy bass from 1976. thing plays better than the rickenbacker i've tried at guitar center.
Finally a good Lemmy cover!!!!! For some reason doing a bass cover of a Motörhead song is a hell of a lot more difficult than a guitar cover. Most of them suck! This one has the right spirit.
Oh damn, I didn't know that Lemmy stayed on the E during the verses. Good to know, I'm doing a Motörhead tribute gig with Mikkey Dee in two weeks so I'm checking in here to see that I'm doing it right😂
@@coverheadbasscovers471 thanks man! Yeah I'll tell him, think he'll enjoy it! We did Iron Fist with him last December at a thing where he got a drumming award (we're from the same city so my band was playing that night and they asked if he'd play a song). It's hard going back to your own drummer once you've jammed with that machine😂
I always thought the bass was just playing one string blah blah blah then someone plays the bass like a geetar with the power chords and shit.. ohh boy
did lemmy use JCM 800s? cuz i thought you could only use guitar heads specifically for guitars unless someone can educate me. another question is how much is the JCM 800?
You can use basses with guitar heads, it's maybe a bad idea to use a bass with guitar speakers because the low frequencies could blow up the speaker. But a guitar amp is fine, and guitars with bass amps and speakers are fine. Not sure if he used JCM800's, I'm pretty sure Motorhead was started before the JCM800's were released. So maybe something like a super lead plexi or a super bass. And also these amps are expensive, you can get clones for cheaper but a real deal is $1000-2500 or more.
@@emmarossignol4445 Absolutely right It doesn’t matter it is a bass amp or guitar amp, because there is no component in the amp that makes it not compatable with the other guitar. It is the speakers frequency range that makes the gap between the two of them
You're right, to be honest I'm not 100% happy with this cover, I think I should have covered the studio version instead of the live version,. I didn't want to play the exact same notes than Lemmy did on this show and rather stick to the studio bass line but I ain't sure it sounds great like that. Anyway thanks for your comment and support mate ! Check my other videos ;)
@@coverheadbasscovers471 there is an isolated version of the bass, and I learn't going to brasil from your video, I really can't wait to see more covers, you should do Eat the Rich or Keep us on the Road next :) Keep at it!

Props man, no one nails the tone. I reckon I’d be able to keep up, if I even played an instrument, but the timing would be god awful. 😂
They're not cheap indeed. Mine is actually a Japanese copy from the 80'. Bought it to a guy who customized it a bit in order to get closer to an original rick. Got it for around 800$, good deal for the fucking great sound I get out of it !!
That's the same amp lemmy used so he's almost certainly using it to record this. It's actually a guitar amplifier which is why it has such a mid/treble tone.
